One of the recent batch (ordered at the first recent sales day) S1 works for 5 min, then disconnects, then in a few seconds beeps, then reconnects.
This cycle repeats all day long. What could be the cause?
i tried to reboot multiple times, switched off power supply, then back on-no cure. I have a feeling that I have a rare faulty unit. Thanks for any suggestion.

70% likely its your power supply. after 3min or so the antminer is at full speed and after a minute or two of this your PSU is finally overloaded and switches off. a lot of power supplies will attempt to restart themselves when this happens

Interesting...I am running this S1 on corsair CX500M, not overclocked, so it should be able to handle it. A faulty power supply unit? I will swith powersupply and see what happens. Big thanks!
I never had luck drawing more than 250 watts from a CX500.  I tried running one BFL single off a CX500, only to have it constantly shut off about an hour of running.  I don't know if it overloaded, or if the CX500 is just one of those power supplies that is not happy with a 12V-only load.

Interesting...mine are running fine, but not overclocked yet. I am planning to OC them tomorrow. We'll see if CX500M will be up for the task. CX750M has no problems running 1.5 S1 overclocked at 375.

Im running 2 overclocked S1s at 393mhz on a 240amp line off an 835w server power supply. Each miner pulls about 420... That is how all 27 are running.

Obviously S1 will become obsolete this year. I have 27 in a custom shed built. Ambient temperature with the ac fluctuates between 70-85F. The S1's themselves run from 45-59c depending on how hot it is outside. Those numbers should be okay for the short life span these Ants are expected to have yes?

Just downclock.  I run units @300Mhz and .90V.  They pull about 200W at the wall connected to a Corsair CX750M (80 bronze).  They hash at 151Gh.

I used to overclock, but the gains just didn't seem worth all the extra power supplies/heat/instability/noise/power use. Smiley

I think I will at some point down clock when the power to hash ration drops too much. We use server PSUs for power.

If u can get them on solar power they will never be obsolete.

Lol..it would cost an arm and a leg to get solar on those. Or at least enough to power 420wx27. After the Ac/router/ect, we are pulling about 13,000 watts.

From the error message, it looks more like wrong pool settings (URL errors). Did you re-enter your pool info? Or maybe inadvertently add an extra character in one of the pool fields when you used the mining configuration page to restart the miner?

Using a common remote file but all S1's are affected:

Code:
{
 "pools" :
  [
   {
        "url" : "stratum+tcp://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333",
        "user" : "x",
        "pass" : "x"
   }
 ],
 "lowmem" : true,
 "bitmain-options" : "115200:32:8:38:393.75:5F05",
 "api-listen" : true,
 "api-allow" : "W:127.0.0.1,W:192.168.0/24",
 "quiet" : true
}

Trying some different things now

just upgraded mine this morning without problems, did you follow the instructions?

Quote
Then run the following commands:
 cd /usr/bin/
 wget http://kano-kun.net/AntS1/cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c
 chmod +x cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c

If you haven't done an update like this before (or undid the change):
 mv cgminer cgminer.original
 ln -s cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c cgminer

If you HAVE done an update like this before and cgminer.original has
already been saved, then:
 rm cgminer
 ln -s cgminer-ants1-4.3.2a-85fcf0c cgminer

Next you need to restart cgminer on your AntS1
You can restart it, when logged into your ant, with the command
 /etc/init.d/cgminer restart

Hello everybody,
I encountered a problem with my antminers s1: I have 3 antminers from the april batch. I bought 3 psu's http://www.pc-specs.com/psu/Zalman/Zalman_ZM600-LX/1308. two of them work just fine, but the third one stays in idle without a problem but when it starts hashig it shuts down instantly. The psu has active pfc and that may be the cause but 2 of them have no problem with ant's load, and are hashing for 72 hours straight.
Is there something i can do to verify if it's something wrong with that specific psu, I don't think it's the issue with 5v base- if it was , shouldn't all 3 act the same ? The thing is I cannot return it because  the warranty office doesn't test them at 400W , they just check to see if it's working and it is, it just shuts down at high load.
Try a working PSU on the bad unit.

Oh, no.. the ant is ok...luckily. I tried all the possible combinations between 3 psu and 3 ants and only one psu malfunctions. My wonder is how is this type of malfunction possibile- it must have a defect out of fabrication or somthing - but I don't think It will show on the benchmark with a PC and no warranty covers it . Tomorrow I am buying a new psu and hope to get rid of the bad one

Im getting my first s1 this week.

Do you guys recommend OC S1 to 400 MHz / 205 GH/s??

Thats 360w without overclocking vs 500 - 525 w overclocked.

180 GH/s vs 205 GH/s.

Its worth it OC then?

thanks

Each miner is a slightly different beast. Some are unstable when overclocked, but most OK. 400mhz is a bit rough. Remember that OCing voids warranty.
After seeing that your ant S1 behaves well at 350mhz, then try 375 first before moving to 393.75.
From my first batch of three S1, none were stable at 393.75 for more than 24hr, but at 375, they were hashing OK.

There are custom settings other than 393.75 that you can use to further tune your S1's to their most efficient use. I usually try my list of overclocks on my S1's until I have a consistent HW below 1% for a day.  If it stays at 0.9% or lower HW, I keep the highest speed at that rate. If higher HW, I bump it down a peg.

Here are my custom settings (in bold):
Quote
       #option 'freq_value'    '4f81'  #400M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '400'
        #option 'timeout'       '35'

        option 'freq_value'    '5f05'  #393.75M
        option 'chip_freq'     '393.75'
        option 'timeout'       '36'

        #option 'freq_value'    '5e85'  #387.5M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '387.5'
        #option 'timeout'       '37'

        #option 'freq_value'    '4e81'   #375M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '375'
        #option 'timeout'       '38'

        #option 'freq_value'     '4d81'  #350M
        #option 'chip_freq'      '350'
        #option 'timeout'        '40'

Anyone encountered an odd issue where all units stop hashing after several days (this happened to me before but now it occurred after 6 days of nonstop hashing)? I use 3 pool with ghash.io as the primary and it seems like the units switch over to the secondary and tertiary backup but never go back to the primary. Even if there was a brief issue with the primary pool they should all eventually retry the primary.

This would not be such a big deal but what is happening is that after some time they units stop hashing even on the backup pools - ie I see no increased share count on any of the pools. The hashrate counter looks like it maintains the same average. It's as if it's hashing into thin air.

The fix is to reboot the units, then they go back to hashing as normal.

All my units are running the Dec 26 firmware except one which is running the Fed 04 one, but it is doing the same thing.

I think this is a firmware bug, but I just wanted to hear if anyone else out there is experiencing the same thing.

Having the same issue with ghash.io, not sure about other pools. Antminer's interface is showing regular hashrate, but not the pool ((( The problem appeared recently -- week or so. Anyone having this sort of issue with other pools?

I'm having the same problem, units are hashing away normally but when checking on ghash it shows no work being done.  None of the failovers are showing work being done either, after rebooting the units start showing up on ghash.  I've lost too many days to this...going to try using a different pool as primary, see if ghash is the cause.

This seems like an issue with ghash.io. I opened a trouble ticket with them, so let's see what they have to say. I have a hunch that maybe their DDoS protection might be kicking in - ie the antminer hammering their system to check to see if it's alive.

I'm also going to attempt to update cgminer on one of the units as a test case.
