just ordered some antminers 5 set up with out a problem and the last one i cant connect  to its ip and its network port does not light up, ive tried resetting it and resetting the power supply, it seems to turn on and light up besides that. any help would be good.

Use advanced IP scanner and scan your network for it's IP.
Take it from there Wink

Is that a command line function or how do i use advanced IP scanner? im a bit out of my league here, i had just been typing in the ip address listed on the machine.

I believe the antminer has 2 fan mounts, so doing it in push pull, idk to go with high CFM or high SP would be better tho

the stock fan is somewhere in the 110-140 cfm range. If you add an exhaust fan I suggest a minimum 70CFM. anything else might actually impede the units cooling.

the cougar fans (usually orange/black) are fantastic. roughly 72CFM at full speed, very quiet, and have the nice rubber grommet-style mounts that work with the drilled holes on the antminer backside

Why power off psu when there are two 4 pin for fans?

I know my fans are running at full power.  I can figure out how to increase the fan speed through the board.  Plus I don't feel like shutting down the miners to figure it out.

Apologies if this has been answered before. Is there another way to add some cooling to the ants without reversing the blades (to point outwards).

Has anyone experimented with adding fans to the PCB side. Does it help at all? Summer is coming, so any degree saved is good. I do have a box fan pointed at it (a feet away from the stock fan). Does adding a clip fan from top help dissipate some heat?

Thanks

I do a push/pull with the fans.  I power it off the psu.  Then I also have a fan sweeping across the blades.

Add another fan blowing the heat out on the other side.
Believe me it works!

Haha no I understand what it means, I will use more precise terms next time my bad. Another question, since this is a sha -256 asic, it CAN mine on sha 256 multi pools, and altcoins right? There are plenty of sha 256 coins that are more profitable right now which is why I'm asking.

Scam-Busting PSA: Beware of Black Arrow Software
He's trying really hard but no one is listening.

I've been mining since mid 2011 and my advice is to buy antminers! Or don't... more for me.

have you made profit, let alone ROI?
I don't think ROI means what you think it means. I suspect the term you're looking for is 'break even'. Sorry to that guy, but the increasing misunderstanding of ROI has been bugging me. Everything that's being run is offering an ROI, whether that return is enough to break even is another story altogether.

Thanks everyone with the networking support but not there yet.
I now have the Antminer connected to the router via ethernet, it seems to be online and able to ping.
However I'm still not mining I think the problem is this:

Thu Mar 13 01:45:09 2014 kern.warn kernel: [   21.660000] PIC microchip bootloader usb OK

It also hangs at cgminer at the end:

Thu Mar 13 01:48:02 2014 cron.info crond[580]: crond: USER root pid 990 cmd /usr/bin/cgminer-monitor

Its been over a week and still no hashing please help!
Thanks,

Bummer, sorry to hear, I'm sure that is very frustrating. I can't remember the trail to know where your problem started, so I'm just going to ask some questions:
 - Did the miner ever work i.e. has this error always been in the log?
 - Have you changed any of the network settings on the ant?
 - What is the ip address of your router?
 - What is the ip address of your PC?
 - What is the ip address of your ant?

What I would suggest at this point is to do a hard reset by holding down the black button on the controller board. You can download the faq and manual files here: https://github.com/AntMiner/AntGen1/tree/master/manual
Once you have done a reset back to factory settings, check to make sure all the cables are fitted snugly and turn it back on and see if it gives the same error in the log.
If you post a printout of the system and kernel logs it will also help.
Once you're done, fill in the answers to the questions and we'll go from there.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY, I'm now mining after a week of troubleshooting!!!
I had to make my ant's address 192.168.0.99 and gateway 192.168.0.1 (routers ip),
DNS 8.8.8.8, used NTP servers 0 through 3.us.pool.ntp.org
the last error was gone after I Factory reset it and reconfigured this third time
Pluged into router and pulled up gui, miner status------> 178.76 GH/s avg.
THANK YOU ALL
THANK YOU

hey antminer experts..
spring/summer is coming up, which makes me wonder, what would be the absolute max temperature for a stable antminer s1 operation overclocked to 200 ghz?
I've heard mixed numbers ranging from 45 to 60c.. but I wanna know if any1 is running on 50+ for a while with no problem..
