Most cost effective is 6-15r or 6-20r non locking  (no l). These are 240v. From there run a y splitter cable. 30 amp 10 AWG.
Thanks Big Al, the only reason i was thinking 30 amp is so that i can possible increase the amount of miners in there in the future. But i like the t splitter cable idea, i will see how much difference the electrician will charge. He also wants me to work on his computer so my cost may not be so bad.

Can you help me understand what the benefits are of using a 30 amp circuit with a PDU compared to your set up? i have found some super cheap 240v PDUs on ebay.

Also when i dig the trench im going to throw the internet in there too, is it recommended to use the gel filled Ethernet cable or can you use regular Ethernet cable in conduit

I would go with Gel filled, That way its essentially water proof!

Hello all

So I have been running my 741 in my shed for a few weeks now with a fan exhausting heat out the window. Unfortunately I am having to leave the door cracked since I don't have intake vents cut yet. I have a s9 coming and planning on building a GPU rig

I was wondering if I used Cool Attic CX1000AMUPS Power Attic Roof Mount Ventilator with 3.4 Amp 60 Hz Motor and Steel Flange, Galvanized Steel Dome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B54UQSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IE0KAbYCC37XT to exhaust could I just use the window as air intake (window is about 20"x13" when it is opened up)

If I can use that fan for exhaust will I need 1 or 2? They are rated at 1080 cfm each.

Would the window be enough for intake? If not home Depot has cheap vents I can put in  the door (opposite the window).

Thanks for your help I'm not really well versed in air flow and how to maximize this set up. I can provide pictures if needed.

hello all

so I have had my Avalon 741 running in my garage for now and have an s9 on order.

I go the conduit in the ground and should have electricity run by this weekend.

My concern is the intake and exhaust, I have an existing shed about 10x10 with a window in the back. I'm going to put a shelf right in front of the window and use a fan to pull the air out.

I need help figuring out what fan to use. I have a large vorando fan that I can use in the mean time, but id like to get something more permanent that will fit in the window.

The other issue is intake. I'm going to need to cut wholes in the shed for intake. can you provide any insight on the best way to do this. I will post pictures of my shed after work.

If it were me and the shed is dedicated for miners I would do the following.

This kind of depends on size, but if it permits incorporate 2-4 large AC filters in one wall. Then on the opposite wall mount a couple of exhaust fans. I would go above the ~225 CFM output of the miners by 1.5-2x. So if you have 2 miners @ ~450CFM mount a 675-900 CFM exhaust fan(s). That should draw fresh clean air over the miners and the hot waste heat out. Obviously point the miner exhaust at the exhaust fans Smiley As you add miners simply add or upgrade fans.

Hello Everyone

I am sorry to make a new thread as i did search but what im finding is answers on how to run a miner on 120v service.

I really am looking for someone that can help answer my questions.I have been planning on putting in 240v service for sometime so that i can run my generator into the house properly (for hurricane season in FL) and know that I am looking into getting a S9 or more likely the new Avalon 8 (depending on availability), i am expediting hiring an electrician.

I am not comfortable with electricity at all and I want to make sure I tell the electrician exactly what type of receptacle to put in. It seems like there are so many different type of plus and amperage and its just a little over my head. ( I feel comfortable with the tech part and even setting up the Pi on my own but electricity, Huh Huh).

So, What setup is the most efficient?
I believe it should be on its own circuit and not on a gfci breaker.
Is it best to use a PDU, and then what type of plugs do I use? It looks like the PDUs take the normal 3 prong plug for 120v..

Im just in over my head when it comes to electricity (as you can tell) and would like some guidance.

I appreciate your help in advance and sorry for my noob type questions.

I ordered a 741 today, and i might not have my 240 service ready by the time the miner gets here. If i wanted to still use the PDU listed above, can i use a wire that will go from the PDU to a 14-30r receptacle ( dryer plug)? I was trying to search and i couldnt find the right plug to plug the pdu into to that will then plug into dryer outlet.

Also i need a PSU, do recommend getting an HP one with breakout board off of ebay?

Phil - i know the numbers arent out yet for the A8 but what PSUs do you recommend? Does Finsky still sell PSUs and PDUs?

I grabbed 2 used HP pdu's from the same seller on eBay a few weeks ago. The shipping is high because these suckers are heavy with the cord

Phil- I appreciate your reply. I honestly was awaiting your input as well.  So you feel it's okay running regular eth cable in the PVC rather than getting the direct burial gel filled eth cable? The gel filled eth cable is more expensive. So maybe I just need to compare costs if I can go either way. Thanks again for linking other posts.

Also I am most likely going to go with a sub panel and 2 l630r outlets allowing for growth out there. If I do that should each outlet be on its own circuit?

The other part is I don't know if I need a subpanel but since the electrician has one that was used he said it would only cost me an extra 20 bucks. My thought was that if I had the subpanel the electrician wouldn't  have to run 2 wires from my main (next to my main I have a large panel separate from the distribution panel in my house that has a ton of space in it). Does one way work better than the other?

You have several options for the Ethernet run.  Presume it's less than 100m?  Don't run Ethernet cable in the same conduit as the 240V AC (risky and code violation). 

PVC pipe is fine for regular Ethernet run. 

Or if you don't want to bother with conduit you could just go with Ethernet direct-burial cable, usually gel-filled.

Or you could use a pair of 'Ethernet over Power' adapters (works best if plugged into the same 120v phase at each end).

Just to be clear I was talking about running a 30 amp breaker to a dual 6-15r  Or 6-20r outlet.  Depending on voltages you could get away with running 4 s9s on one 30 amp breaker. At 1400w and above 233v rms you are below 6 amps. This depends on batch, ambient temps and PSU efficiency.

Go compare prices. Keep in mind the price of the outlets. Great northern data doesn't use PDUs and they have to use all csa/ulc listed hardware. I figure there's a reason they didn't go with PDUs.

i think thats what ill do because i want to be able to grow the "farm" in the future. i wish i had more money to buy 4 miners now but we shall see. Get L6-30 outlets or hanging receptacles.  Then you can get a cheap PDU and some c13-c14 cables and use the PDU as a glorified power strip.

I have seen 4x s9 on one 30a circuit, but my personal suggestion is 3 to stay below the 24a limit for continuous use.  3x s9 are about 22A.  You can check that 24a number with your electrician.

Thank you. i had the electrician come out today. Im going to be running power to my shed, so when i dig the trench im going to run the internet out there as well. Now i need to figure out ventilation. Thankfully i have a window in the shed and will get a fan to suck air out, and then possible another fan i have laying around to help as well. Will need to put in some vents to get air in. Should be up and running by the new year, depending on when i get the miners. Im thinking im going to stick with the Avalons maybe a 761 and an 8 if i can get my hands on one. If not ill try for a s9, but id like to have two miners running.

I'm also interested in this. I have a few questions that I'd like to tack on.

I'm hoping to run two AntMiner S9s with either AWP5s or AWP3++s to power them. Along with figuring our what receptacle should be installed, I also want to know what amperage the line should be rated for. Do I need a dedicated circuit for each power supply?

Are there recommendations on which PSU to use?

Edit: I'm in Ontario, Canada, if that makes a difference.

Im going to go with the L6-30R receptacle as i think it will be better to have 30amp breaker with 10 gauge wire running to it. I am able to get a panel for cheap some im going to run it so the shed has its own breaker box.

Give them each their own 10 amp circuit or a single circuit with 20 amps and you will be fine for 2.

The s9 draws around 7 amps max on 220v power. The receptacle doesnt really matter since you can buy any kind of power cable to go from your power supply to the socket.
