Topic: Should bitcointalk play a part in educating its members?. (Read 512 times)

Bitcointalk already plays a part in educating its members, but - there is a lot of clutter (low quality posts & stupid topics e.g. "which is next 100x coin...") so finding the desired piece of information here is little bit harder than it should be.
Since I have a full time job (and a habit of trail running 3x weekly), I usually don't have much time to spend on the forum. But to be honest I succeeded to find most of the wanted crypto and mining related information here...

The time I discovered BTCT, I just stumbled upon it in another forum that it talks about these kinds of stuff like cryptocurrency, mining, etc. Then I just went to the forum and just understood what Bitcoin is and of course, the main reason I discovered it is because I hope to learn how to earn money on the internet. That's just the reality and it's a blessing to stumble upon here and to learn more and how the Bitcoin community works.

In my opinion, if there could be a way that all the suggestions in the meta like YouTube Videos, Educational stuff, prevention of scam, etc, to spread out information and let Bitcointalk be the first one to be introduced when learning about anything related to cryptocurrencies.

People should have a mindset like yours where you want to be more knowledgeable with regards to learning more about why we signed up here for.

..as far as i know,,bitcointalk really help a lot in educating members of this forum,,even me,I have learn a lot in this forum..not only on Bitcoin and any form of crypto but on how to interact to other people whenever they need help..many threads i have read that newbies specially those who are doing thesis create accounts on this forum and conducts survey regarding crypyo and use the information they gathered to finish their study,by doing this,btt really help them a lot..even those newbies who wants to rank up,they are force to post high quality post so that they will gain merit..to sum it up,,bitcointalk is a forum that educates us with regards to crypto world..

Bitcointalk is already educating us ,
We just need to self study everything that needs to be learn is in this forum.
We just need to look for it , I think everything that is related to crypto has been ask in this forum so we should just learn to search for it.
There are tons of stuff that we could learn here from basic trading up to some tips from some pro.

I think in term of educating the general public and not Newbies alone, bitcointalk cannot be put aside. Most section have a pinned post to guide new users as appropriate. To crown it all, the forum have a very useful information about the origin and benefits of crypto that cannot be found easily elsewhere. Although, the best is still yet to come, but immeasurable info about anything concerning cryptography is available here for anyone who cares to search. 

And also make research, make comments, contribute.. Voice out their honest opinions of relevance and ask Questions if any) We learn not just by reading.

Actually on this forum a lot of topics and sections with articles for beginners, but it is strange that no one notices and constantly create new threads with the same questions.
Plenty of those where given and life hacks how to make merity: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/10-merit-4589642 and so many other things where regular users are advised not to do on the forum. Just go to the section https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0 - and read all the messages for a couple of weeks and don't need to learn anything.

Not all members on forum have idea and some have little idea, some users get register on forum to learn for example I don't have knowledge on the technical aspect of bitcoin and of recent I have been visiting the technical discussion baord mostly to read as I developed interest in learning more on that aspect to impact my society when the time is right. I want to be more than the average bitcoin users. So I believe the forum is the best place for this as it's almost (except data) cost free at the same time
you can earn while you learn more.

Isn't this happening already, through these very discussions? Plus, bitcointalk would not be the best place for that since most members on here already have an idea about crypto. There should be more active teaching outside of this space where people can pick it up.

Quick answer - of course. Being a number one forum for crypto and blockchain related topics - this means a lot of responsibility. Though, people should always to their own due diligence, but the forum can still be the educator. Here are lots of educational and good topics where you can learn. Also, lots of pointless threads around here as well. You just need to find the good ones, good users, who post valuable inputs. Also, you can find good groups on Telegram, where you can have very good chats, educational conversations etc. Podcasts are good places to learn as well.

Exactly the point mate, no one is against paid signature ad or bounty programs

It's just the high rate of abuse some members give to it
You can put on a bounty signature on the forum,and it's fine as long as you don't spam the forum,but the problem is that 80% do spam the forum, due to lack of knowledge and pressure to meet weekly task

More worse is those who operate using about 7 alt accounts,that already makes it impossible to learn or contribute quality to discussions,as you'll have to make about 105 "under pressure" posts per week..

I feel your pain. Just as I tried to understand the reply after yours (very bad English, believe to be a translation)

wearing of signature's I see as leveraging of the system. There's nothing wrong in it. if there was, it wouldn't have been a feature of the forum or would had been removed by administrators long time ago. Not every signature bearer is a spammer just as not every none signature wearer is not a spammer. Some spammers/scammers even avoid wearing signatures so they can hide in plane sight. You can earn while you learn that's what the signature features offer and I believe it's cool.

I get the problem on the forum because I too were guilty of it. Just set me as an example, I tried to learn things here in the forum but not all things I should need to learn. I only pick some that might interest me(Trading crypto and bounty hunting). I try to avoid joining discussions on some areas like mining crypto and etc.

Why?

This because I have limited resources. Even if I were going to learn on mining crypto, it does not make sense on applying it on reality. So that is why I focused only on trading crypto and started a small investment with bitcoin, XRP, BCH and ETH.

It is really not a need to learn all things here in the forum. However, I may consider to learn mining in the near future given the chance that I could afford to buy those expensive equipment use for mining.

You see, Bitcointalk has played a role to educate the users but as theory goes on adult learning that adult chose only to learn the things we want to learn. I believe that a fish should not be thought on how to climb a tree instead thought the fish on how to swim on the ocean. This is why we should not obliged users to join and ask them to learn all the things that the forum has offered. 

Most users were in to bounty hunting and trading crypto. You can observe it as well that only few of the users here were not wearing signatures. Some of the users do believe that the forum should be like this and like that for the good of the forum but in reality they could not admit that they were too one of the reason that adds up the problem of the forum on the signature they wear.

Do not expect things will run smoothly after the forum introduce learnings to a user because it is different in reality.

EXPECATION VS. REALTITY

BitcoinTalk started out as a forum to promote Bitcoin. At the time it was a revolutionary new concept in banking and payment services. It has been a success, and it has evolved into a crypto community. There are numerous ways for new members to improve their crypto knowledge, and to interact with other crypto enthusiasts. I started the Fit to Talk project for two reasons, it helps members to communicate and improve their knowledge if they do not have English as a first language. Another important reason was to help me and other merit awarders, it is extremely annoying to have to stop and try to understand posts with badly translated text. The instant solution is to ignore the poster, but that doesn't help to build an international community. This is especially true in the world of crypto, as some of the major changes are happening in the emerging economies.

The education of members has to start with the motivation of the members seeking knowledge. Unfortunately, we seem to have a large number of (newer) members who expect to receive payment for mimimal effort, and just want a simple couple of sentences to explain how to do this. I think the education of members is a secondary project, the first thing would seem to be the generation of self-improvement motivation. The merit system forced that onto many members, and hopefully we can build on this initiative.

And we're not only learning in here some or most even earn as well and even others has get good opportunity in this forum especially to those who sells their services and to add this forum is the best way to trade too since there are many reputable members who lurks in here. Hope that many members will know this one and didn't have to ask a lot rather take part also on learning process when they have other craft on their sleeves too.

Basically, bitcointalk is a forum that is built and mainly used for bitcoin or any-other-altcoin related content provided by it's members, it is used for sharing ideas and building a community out of cryptocurrencies.

I think providing better education other than members opinions and experiences are beyond bitcointalk because the fact that they are a forum, the members of it gives reliable opinions which you could adapt and learn from it, you just have to search for it.


I think that the forum could provide education if it is well delivered. Posting questions in the forum alone just gives you opinions not education because those opinions might be right, more probably misleading. I also think that OP is looking for an individual to provide compiled reliable sources of information from bitcointalk so it could be more easier for beginners to scan, but again, it's not bitcointalk itself.

Bitcointalk is already playing its part already (providing the platform, resources, costs, extra stuff...) it's people who are not looking to learn

I think members it is members who should be interested in educating themselves, otherwise it is pointless. We are in the internet era; one can learn a lot by himself.

The average shitposter is not going to learn no matter what bitcointalk does, as long as he can get paid for posting crap.

BTW: I think the meta board is as serious as this one.

And may I add that blatant spoon feeding may be avoided too. I know forum is a place to find good answer/s to questions or give some enlightenment to its members but considering that we have a search button of what you really wanted to know is helpful too. We all been a newbie but as the forum gone huge for years I guess the search button is the helpful tool we can rely too. I am giving this opinion too on some noobs that even open a thread or asking same questions over (raise to the power of five or something higher) and over again when in fact internet or even this forum is huge enough to get along a problem to be solved.

It does it already indeed but would be better if we had entire sections dedicated to that
