Its very hard to mention any ICO issued after January 18' that held its value. Its much better to observe the market and hit for ones that are trully bakced by teams with some vision ahead. Right now it might be 0,01% of ICO's that are bakced by serious people. If you invest it to make money, stay away, if you would like to support the project itself, than go ahead.
i think investing on ico's is not worth it right now its better to buy it off an exchange after its release because you would save alot than buying on ico because alot of people will dump their coins after the exchange especially if the project have bounty program.
Though the bunos in ICO is really big help than low price in the exchanges. Now the mostly of the ICO gives 1-20% on after you buy their coin . As an investor in ICO and not buying on exchanges I could really get a ton of profit if it reaches its ICO price because of those free coin that they give you after you buy , those trader will also earn profit but not like those investors

I agree many of best promising ICO is nearly 1/3 of their ICO prices. There are also some difficulties about listing at centralized exchange nowadays because of SEC. And at the decentralized exchange, the price can be very volatile especially after ICO

ICO project's are the safest based on my experience also safest in profiting but you've got to be sure they're pure legit like the real thing. Pre-sale are the best choice to purchase ICO's. Try ICO you never know what might happen but even my newbie days i did profit from joining ICO's there are also bonuses if you participate in their telegram or other helping tips you share with them like updating,bugs and such.

The risk is too high right now to invest in new ICO's. Especially when many of them are just created to scam innocent new investors. We need some strong regulations before companies get hold of investors money.

Well everybody have their own opinion and if it's good for you then do it, for me it's depend on the project itself. If it's really good and really promising I will invest my money on that ico. Of course you need to do many search before you invest on that ico, to make sure you are not invest on bad ico. 
They have advatange and disadvantage of investing your money to ICO, because it depends to the ICO you invested. They have ICO who are legit and your money is safe and once that ICO reach hard cap and get listed to the exchanges site and gain more profit. But if the ICO you invest is scam or failure to meet hard cap you will lose your money. We don't know 100 percent if the ICO is good or not.
I think there are benefits on participating ICO but there is always a risk,

ICO are too much of a risk, I have not tried buying one and never tried investing on one. I am just participating in the ICO that I am interested and then received a token then started to trade it.
Do not invest so much on the thing that you know will imposed on a great risk to you.

Investing on cryptocurrency will be always giving you a risk depending on how much you invest, taking risk is always necessary in order to get something in return because there will be no profit in the market if you will not invest on a coin with lower price.
Before investing in any ICO, you need to trust the team and read their white paper very well. Like the project before investing your money. ICO is risk I agree but if it succeeds, you will make more profit that if you didn't buy at ICO price.
Some ICO coins are trading even lower than it's sales price were (like phantasma f.e.). You can buy some from the market if you want.

I also have stopped buying the coins when they are in an ICO as most of the times they take a huge dip when they are listed on any exchange and that's the time when I buy those coins, as previously I used to buy tokens in the ICO but then the coins started Dippin below the ICO price when they listed in the exchange, so I changed my investment strategy and started buying the coins after they got listed on the exchanges. Only accredited investors can access good deals and by the time we enter in a public ico, we are buying their tokens at 2x 3x without taking into account the massive bonus they are receiving...
actually it depends on the offer of the ICO. well, we do not know what's on offer some ICO in this case. sometimes people are really interested in investing in ICO to get the benefits on offer from dev. well. I myself have done it. but it all depends on you.
investing in an ICO has always been a gamble because you have no idea what you are getting into. sometimes the team is good at pumping it and you can make a good profit and sometimes they are bad or even good at pumping but they fail to do it and you lose money. there is also a lot of scammers just waiting to take your money and run away in an obvious way not like the others who are sugar coating it.
currently with all the bans and the drops in the market ICOs aren't having the best time. there is failure all around the market and there is a lot of money exiting the market which makes it even less profitable because newbies are running away.

Some part, I agree with your opinion that entering to invest during ICO is risky compared to post-ICO since it is clearer how is the reaction of the market or wider community. However, no pain no gain mate. If you selected a good ICO, you will earn the profit much higher rather than the other buyers/investors on post-ICO.
Don't invest on any ICO if you can't take the risk because you will just lose your patient if something happened on that coin and you will just sold it even at a loss. Buying during the ICO really needs patient, well its also a good move to invest on the post-ICO because you can confirm that project really have the future and the team behind it are working hard for their project.
