Sadly, the majority of these new projects can't be trusted. Most of them can be looked promising and worth investing but the confidence that leaves is in big question. You are afraid of losing money then you should not ever try to invest into these kind of new projects. We also don't even know what is that project even about so it's not financial advise. I would suggest to invest on projects that you are really sure to invest. I mean, if you sure with your decision and you would probably have little regret if something bad happened, because it's based on your research so you will learn something instead of just asking on people blindly. It's good for a long run with how much you do the research on these new projects. 
because of increasing greed in the crypto market now most investors are looking for new projects. there is no denying the fact that it is more beneficial to do investment on new projects than investing in the old project but its need little experience otherwise you can lose here. my advice for every new coin investor is only to look for Kucoin or Binance listed coins. it's more secure for you.
