They are all over, just 1 line posts never do anything just wasting peoples time.
Not "spamming" but they are not doing anything other then posting for the sake of posting.

I only noticed this one because he did post in one of my threads. Then I looked around briefly and saw a few other users like him.
Can't really report the posts because they are *somewhat* legitimate looking but anyone who has been here can see that he is just increasing post count.

Should they be reported to mods? Do the mods care?

-Dave

In answering this thread.
I could have said  "many responses under 10 words are helpful"

and left it at that.

The truth is it is Very hard to determine how to detect and punish this.

I have done 1 word posts with 2 letters.

ie:

no

no was the correct answer to the op's question.

I saved band space.

Later on I came back and added an explanation

basically because I did not want to create the impression of being an a-hole.

I estimate in mining section and alt mining section when newbies ask questions many can be answered in under 10 words.  In Maybe 10% of those threads a 1 line answer is good.

It looks like you stumbled on a guy that likes to give an okay short answer. Maybe it is a protest. Against wordy mofos like me. Grin

Personally trying to sort them out would be really hard to do.

One line can say a lot.

I think it's not enough to say that a single line of the post is just a dump or useless because it is better to become straight to the point or straight forward to the statement we are trying to say, it's not necessary if you want to include an explanation. The goal is to help them and answer the question. There is some post that too much longer but at the end of the statement it is just a wordiness.

It's not the OgNasty posted 1 line or Peanutswar posted 4 when 1 would have done.
If you look at the link from LoyceV of the scraped posts they had 50 posts *all* of them 1 line.
Most were in sales threads asking questions that made no sense, others were just pure junk.

There are other posters out there doing the same.

I have found many times that reporting a post may or may not get it removed.
Having multiple people report it tends to get it removed more often and faster.
I don't think mods need multiple reminders in order to decide whether to take action on a report or not, if your report checks out, it would be handled (this might take a while depending on the availability of mods in that section) and if it doesn't, all reports would remain unhanded or marked bad. Although, I think different mods could handle different reports on a post (as they are separate in the queue) and could have their unique opinions about it.

Multiple reports would be useful in getting quicker attention to cases that requires urgency, like malwares and phishing links in posts.

does anyone think we need or anyone want a thread about the 1 line crap posts

How about a thread for reporting spam posts regardless of the length? If there is a target one liners, users would simply draw out their posts with a little effort. Although, imo, a thread is not necessary, mods are pretty efficient in handling reports. If you feel a post is low quality, report it and the moderators would decide whether or not to take action.

True....with a but.

In the end that might not seem like much, but I figure if crap posters and their posts get removed more quickly it might discourage it a little bit.

Probably not, but I can hope :-)

This one account has got the attention and all of his posts are deleted. But they are many others doing the same thing.  With the introduction of merit such shit posters won't be able to rank up, but they just create a mess in the threads.
You can write one liners but all one-liners with no sense is not justifiable.

So along with the

Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed thread

and the

Report Malware and Suspicious Links here so Mods can take Action !

does anyone think we need or anyone want a thread about the 1 line crap posts that I was talking about when I started this thread?

I fully admit I have been will probably still be a slacker when it comes to reporting this kind of thing but would anyone use it?
I have no idea how many people really care. This thread showed a divide between the yes report and the no ignore it people. Don't know how many are really on each side.

The user account seems to be deleted so I can't judge the posts, anyway not all one liners are spam, sometimes  it's better to keep it short, you don't have put extra words just so other members don't feel it is spam.

If you feel like it's spam, then ofc report it. There is no punishment for wrong reports.

What's the point for them to boost only their post-counts with these meaningless one-liners? With these posting habit they won't ever get a merit, so they won't rank up. And if they will receive Merits for such posts, it'll look really suspicious.  This is exactly what the Merit system was introduced for. So that you can't only rank up by just spamming.

Because once you get your activity number up all you need is that 1 merit and poof you are a jr. member.
Get a few friends / merit farmers out there and get 10 and you now a member and can join a bounty campaigns.

Or if you follow the last few pages of this post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/report-malware-and-suspicious-links-here-so-mods-can-take-action-5182222 you can see that there is for a bunch of users a pattern:
1) sign up
2) post a lot
3) get jr.member / member status
4) go dark for months
5) come back with a malware post.

People see that they are a longer term user, with a bunch of posts, and are more likely to click on the malware links.

I would deal with users that post every post under specific number of characters, maybe 100.
If you post several short one line posts it should be temporary ban or warning.
Everyone can sometimes create post like this, but not repeated several times, or it is spam.
Report to moderator.

I'd say it violates the first rule of Bitcointalk:
1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads.
Posting crap like "im interested" or random short dumb questions without following up afterwards means he's not really interested in what he pretends to want to buy.
The rules were made long ago when posting such craps were meant to farming accounts which isn't the case here certainly since we don't have that easy way of ranking up anymore. Nevertheless, he seems to be a scammer IMO; it's certain that he isn't looking for the services or interested in which he is posting on.

I tried viewing that member's post history but it looks like I've got whatever sections he posted in on ignore and so I couldn't see anything.
Easy solution: open the user's post history in a private browser window.

Some of them do, I'm sure.  Hilariousandco used to tell me to keep reporting shitposters as I came across them (though that was before the merit system was rolled out).

I tried viewing that member's post history but it looks like I've got whatever sections he posted in on ignore and so I couldn't see anything.  Probably a typical altcoin shitposter, I assume?  And yes, the ignore button works wonders but does nothing to combat the problem.  I would say that it's not going to hurt anything to report shitposters--either the moderator takes action or he doesn't.  True, your reporting accuracy may go down as a result, but I wouldn't worry about that (personally speaking, of course).

Agree because it looks like he was just bumping a thread, and every post is just asking a question he didn't really buy something in there or maybe he's not really interested just to create a post here in the forum.
Still, we should make an exemption in the section of Digital Goods, invites etc. because every topic is not a discussion most of the time the comment is probably going to be a 1 liner post. Unlike in discussion sections were posting 1 line is going to be spam or low-quality post. But we could still consider a lot of quality 1 liner posts by some members. The account is probably an alt that is just use for his services or whatever his selling.

If it's was only some posts it's fine, but looking at the post's history there is no doubt the person is shitposting. And yeah it should be reported, it isn't 'spamming' per se but low-quality posts.

There is no need for a welcome message, this user perfectly knows how the forum works. It's clear it's not the first account he opens.
It's the kind of account "in preparation"
