It's pretty simple how it works: you get your fair share of every win and loss on the site, in proportion to the size of your contribution to the bankroll.

So yes, it's almost certainly what NLNico is saying, but also this:

I'm often invested. My balance is 0 most of the time.

When I want to play, I divest "ALL", play, then invest "ALL".

I'm 10 BTC up on my account from playing, so the site is 10 BTC down from my play. My investment wasn't hit by any of that 10 BTC loss, because I wasn't invested for it.

Each time I divest, win, reinvest, your share of the bankroll is temporarily higher while I win from you. Then I reinvest, diluting your share a little.

Of course, when I lose, your share of the site's profits from that loss are larger than usual too, because I'm divested while I lose.

People investing and divesting are constantly changing your percentage share of the bankroll. This makes it next to impossible to work out what your investment gains or losses should be at any point in time, although you can get a rough idea by looking at how the site profit and total investment has changed over time:

Thank you for spelling it out. That's what the site examples show too. It was just counter-intuitive to me for some reason. Early investment == high risk, could have easily gone the other way.

I'm now ~0.1% down, so I need the site to gain ~0.1% on its bankroll, i.e. another ~4 BTC to break even.

This is exactly the reason why I divested. Because of the early swings I was in the negative and in the meanwhile hundreds/thousands of btc's have been invested, to make up my loss it will take months.

As the 18th person to invest with plenty (>100*) DIVEST -> PLAY -> INVEST dances in between this is exactly (different number ofc) what happened to me. The amount you as an investor risk was also changed over time from 2% over 1% to now .5%. So there are several factors that can make your "current profit" or even your "total profit" negative even though the site as a whole is up.
