When I worked at a gold and silver spot we would sell these for spot plus $70...sometimes even $80-no lie Shocked

Arguably the smartest piece of gold bullion to buy. I would rather have a Maple since they're 9999 but I'm a minority.

3.4 BTC anyone?

Looks like gold & silver are taking a nose dive even further down.  If it weren't for that I'd be interested.  Hard to say the prices look stable at all.  Apparently producers are even selling at losses at this point:

You need to look at the fine weight.

The coin contains 1 troy oz of pure gold and a little extra metal to make an alloy so the coin is harder wearing and less prone to scratches.  Usually copper or silver is added.

These added metals can change the colour slightly giving Krugerands a redish look due to the added copper.

Its pretty irrelevant if its 22k or 24k as long as the fine weight is the same.

Thats right, in fact a lot of people prefer 22k (gold eagles) over 24k (maples for example), because they are more durable.

1oz gold american eagles are typically sold for above spot, there are some dealers that buy them for spot +15 and sell for spot+50

That is very interesting information, when taking into consideration that the AGE are .9167 Au (and not .999 like e.g. Chines Panda's).
You would think that dealers only would pay 91% of spot - from that I can conclude that the AGE have some numismatic value.

Although it is true that the gold purity level is .9167 Au (22 karat) the actual weight of the coin is 1.0909 troy oz.  This makes the 1oz Gold American Eagle contain 1 troy ounce of gold.

Oh really? That is really useful information, thank you DJ.

A typically fair price that I usually buy at is somewhere between spot and what amagi/apmex buy back amounts are currently.  You get less price from the exchanges unless you are selling at least $10k.  But yes, Eagles are typically over spot due to being coinage.
