The thing is though, that these are still miners, earning money every minute they are on. By the time the ASICs are available, you'll have mined $400-$600 per single. So it breaks down like this

If you have one single, buy 4 jalapenoes with your BTC, trade in your single for 4 more. 28 GH/s
If you have two singles, buy 1 Bitforce SC single with your BTC plus maybe $300. Trade in your 2 singles plus $100 for 1 more. 80 GH/s

And so on. I don't personally understand the position of "I'll keep my money until the ASICs are available" when you could be making money.

There's no way I'm going down to 650. One unit makes $3.50/day (depending on price and difficulty). I can just hook up the rest and mine and still be guaranteed $599 from butterfly later on.

$661.....

Aye, it's a flawed posistion and people did the same thing when we first started talking about FPGAs being released. But, it is beneficial to those who are mining as it helps keep the difficulty down. ;p

if you buy 2 singles, you cant trade 2 in for 1 40gh/s rig.

it's only 1 single + difference of cash to upgrade to a 40gh/s rig.

and they secure no special spot in the trade-in cutsies line either... so that "Premium" now is out the door.

Yeah, I linked to that in my posting. This is great news for BFL Single owners. That release says that you will get 100% of your value (in this case $599) on a trade in for ASIC equipment with BFL,

The FAQ confirms this applies to second hand items:
http://www.butterflylabs.com/bitforce-sc-faq/

"Upon release of BitForce SC based Singles & Mini Rigs, all previous generation BitForce products will enjoy a full 100% trade in value when used towards the purchase of the newer generation replacements.  This means your current device is protected from depreciation through this evolution in technology.  This buy back offer is good for all previous generation BitForce units whether purchased directly from us or from a third party."

You will only get 1:1 though

You will only get 50% in reality !

"I understand how you are confused. This whole thing has not been explained in detail. If it were a straight trade of old equipment for new our business would fold in a week. Here's how it works: if you buy $599 worth of BFL product--say 4 Jalapenos, you are eligible to send in a Single to exchange for 4 more Jalapenos. You must buy something to be eligible to trade something of equal value. And you don't have to send in your old equipment when you pay for the new--you send it in when you are notified that your ASIC equipment is ready to ship. Does this make sense to you?

Jody"

So, any fool paying $700 for these babies NOW ?

I heart thebaron
Ever since BFL posted their clarification in regards to the 1:1 or 50% ratio of hardware vs cash for their upgrade program, multiple singles will surely not get bought up as quickly as they would have last week.

Considering you have to spend up to $800+ for a Single from a 3rd party NOW, then spend another $700 when ASICs are released, so that each of your Singles doesn't end up as a paper weight, I am sure people will be much more careful 'investing' their money into BFL hardware, knowing that they are basically on the hook (as in hook, line and sinker) to be forced to spend double the cash by the time they are done.....unless they give up and quit once their singles are the equivalent of current CPU miners in the mix of new ASICs and increased difficulty.

It's not like you can simply buy 10 Singles now, then trade them straight across for 5 new ASIC singles without any cash on top once the newer generation is released.
FORCED purchases/upgrades....NOT COOL.

In short, $800 for a Single Today ? GOOD LUCK. Last week Maybe.....I can't see your sale going THAT fast this week.....

Good luck none the less. I just want to make sure everyone knows what they are getting themselves into.
