This doesn't really have anything to do with gambling. They probably were "betting" for shits and giggles. Not like they were trying to make any real money nor were the bets probably serious in nature. Just a bunch of stupid teenage kids not thinking about their actions.

Can you imagine how completely stupid you need to be to participate in such a ridiculous competition?
Not only do most of the participants end up catching COVID19 and getting nothing in return, but they're actually probably putting themselves in dangerous situations just so they can catch the disease.
I can imagine these fools walking into a COVID19 ward and asking to be coughed on just to win the bet.
The stupidity of humans will never cease to disappoint me.

Then again, people do participate in clinical trials with the risk of potentially ruining themselves. Most of the time, these clinical trials pay out in the order of $5,000+ though—I'm sure these college idiots aren't getting anywhere near that amount even if they win the entire pot.
It's probably more for the daring aspect of it, the same way people climb gigantic skyscrapers and tall structures just for the rush of doing it.

Well, we will never know. The possibility is still there even if it is low. And as you said, they are with their relatives. Because of this non-sense bet, the virus will spread faster than they have imagined. They should realize that this is not the time to make a bet like that. Man, this is not "low" probability. As i remember, around 60-65 % of young italians (means under 35 years old) living with their older relatives, like parents and grandparents. Maybe this one of few reasons why there was so big pandemia in Italy. And through american students situation the same (they living with their parents and others). So, such "betting" can be turned to much worse things.
Because of such new i sometimes think that gambling this is pure evil, the same as drugs. People doing very idiotic things

It is unbelievable how some minds work and the wide lack of responsability and awareness that affects some of us...
Playing around with stuff like this virus is simply dumb and these guys should be seriously punished as they are also indirectly endangering the lives of other people in all of their households... people always tend to think that the worse will not happen to them... well....

This kind of insane thinking will not only harmed those people who voluntarily participates but also those people that surrounds them, this kind of thinking is really unfair, just for the sake of money they'll risking not only their lives but also those who will going to interact with them, it's open that this pandemic virus is quickly be transmitted and vaccine still not available.
Those students who participated should be lock down to prevent further damages infecting more people.

Heard about this and I laughed. People never fail to amaze us. There are more stupid and crazy people out there than you can imagine. You don't know to what extent people can be dumb. They aren't just risking themselves, but everyone around them. And how would they know who was the first to get the virus? Even if you are affected by the virus, you won't show the symptoms right away. Again, some are also asymptomatic. This again proves, they all are dumb. . if you take it just as a funny thing. then it was really great. due to coronavirus their cities are locked down. Now they haven't any work to do. so, they did this, for them it’s just a thriller game

Seems not a good idea or should I say not a good thing to bet to. And what are you going to do if you win the game celebrate? because your friend already had COVID-19 lol. The COVID-19 virus is really not a joke and gambling or betting for money is not a good idea especially with this kind of bet. Might be a good game if they are going to make the bet opposite, whoever gets the COVID19 last wins so that they are all going to be careful. You never know who is going to infected if you already have the virus it could be your family or friends so don't make it a joke a lot of people die already.

Well, we will never know. The possibility is still there even if it is low. And as you said, they are with their relatives. Because of this non-sense bet, the virus will spread faster than they have imagined. They should realize that this is not the time to make a bet like that. Probably they would be educated guys and still doing such things really scares everyone and hope so someone enlighten them and they became extra precautions and going forward will be extra careful with such things. We hope no one dies of this virus and if tested positive recovers soon and become fit like before.
They know what they are doing, they planned to host a party and invite people with covid-19.
What scares me also is that there are still people who are willing to go in a party despite the fact that USA is leading with the number of cases, and in Alabama alone, there's over 40K cases although they have a very good recovery rate as over 20k also has recovered.

Man, for honest, this is pure sould of betting and all gambling. You really thought that noone will do such things? People killing their relatives to get money for dice or something like that. And it's obvious that they will easier infect themselves to get some "easy" money.

It's good to question but we also needs to listen to others as we can't make every mistakes on our own to learn from.
This is all due to lack of motivation and a vision for the future. The kids these days want's to stand out but don't want to work for it. Everyone wants to be a hot dude/gal overnight. It's not the kids that are to blame. Our society has failed to give meaning to human life.
