Would you book a hotel using bitcoins?

No problem with me. But if using Bitcoin means paying a much higher price simply because of that option, I would rather use fiat. After all, generally, I am actually trying to accumulate more and more Bitcoin rather than spend them.

Since January of this year,  Hotel Eurobuilding in Caracas, Venezuela began accepting bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The Hotel has a crypto ATM called Cryptobuyer Pay that will accept payments in cryptos.

I think adoption is underway in some countries. We just need to get out of this crisis to continue moving forward.

As I browse through my social media account, facebook, I saw this post saying he booked a hotel in Thailand using bitcoin in Travala ( application for hotel and accommodation booking.

A quick view for Travala, the heart of this system is Travala token (AVA) which helps the platform offer tokenized incentives to its customers and any other user that can help the platform grow. ( quick google seach)

Here's the video

There is no actual moment that he is booked and paid using bitcoin. What do you guys think about it?

Would you book a hotel using bitcoins?

I would like people to be familiarized with Bitcoin. However, I also wanted to still choose what payment will be cheaper. Unfortunately, whenever I heard news like this, there's always a side saying that the shops are charging way higher payments. I wanted to see the good side of it but somehow people will see btc not as a choice if shops are charging unfair, because people will always choose whats convenient and fair.

Why not, if there will be a service here in our country to book a hotel using a bitcoin then I would be glad to use knowing that it I am a crypto lover and paying in bitcoin is less hassle compare to bank cards. Bitcoin is getting bigger and the adoption is getting wider so we can expect that there will be platform that will surely accept bitcoin payment in booking a hotel.

I am not that familiar with Travala but they are doing well as they were able to partner to some hotels and the guest can book using their tokens. What I am hoping to see is a platform that will fully accept bitcoin and other top currencies.

Why not? I see no direct problems. Its easy while keeping money on smartphone when arrive on site you just pull ur phone up and thats it, payed. Before you will check out it will be confirmed for sure.
This is future of payments, we are early adopters Smiley

You used to be able to do it with Expedia. You used to be able to spend bitcoins in many more places than you can these days. That's hoarders for you.

The problem with a lot of travel options with Bitcoin is that they often charge you more. A lot of the flight places in particular are terrible for adding 30-80 dollars or don't have the usual options at all.

I see no reason to pay more for the honour of paying with BTC.

Travala looks about right though. I might investigate further.

Expedia has stopped accepting Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies for hotel bookings from 2018. Please check the facts and then reply. Please read this article

This is really familiar news for me because I have read an article before that uses bitcoin as a way of payment on some transactions in the hotel booking but anyway, this news is really great, thanks for informing us especially those beginners. Bitcoin becomes more familiar in a different country so they always innovate something to make our lives easier by using technology because as what we all know technology is meant to make the life of every individual easier and by the use of it and the use of bitcoin is really great for having good and secured transactions.

I think it would be better if they also allow the booking to use other cryptocurrency so it will be more applicable for everyone.

Very great news mate, bitcoin has been going more popular all over the world so they tend to make an application which can use bitcoin as payment on some transactions, which is really good because it makes the transaction secured and fast compared to the manual thing which you should do all thing physically.

It seems like bitcoin will be more prominent because of the emerging technology as time goes by technology evolves and bitcoin becomes more popular, I think in the near future there would be more software or application uses by some transaction with the use of bitcoin.
This is good about bitcoin but it is not new again, there are some countries in Europe that use bitcoin like money, beside using it to book for hotel they also use it for many daily transactions like using it to make order in bar, this is common in Ljubljana and Prague.
I can use it to book for a hotel if the service is available in the hotel I logged, it is a great idea, I can easily use my wallet to even pay as easy than using fiats.
But it is really great for those people who don't know about these things like me because we can use it for next time if we are going to reserve a book in the hotel.

Which sites? Name and shame.

For normal retail gift cards should do the job as long as they're available for what you want, but Bitrefill charges a premium for non lightning network payments.

I haven't come across price gouging too often but when I have it's usually travel related. It could be down to the agent simply piling money on top or they don't have the same margin muscle as the regular brokers like Opodo or wherever.

Either way they won't be getting a satoshi of my business. I ain't no charity.
I'd rather not give names for now (might give later, but I'm not convinced I should), but they were mostly websites either working with CoinPayments or local (Romanian) shops. All my attempts were fails. Cheesy

It was a very smart attempt from them to deceive through CoinPayments though: on invoice, the amount was right. When I had to pay through CoinPayments however, there was one little big problem: I did not have enough funds in my wallet, although I knew I transferred about 3-4% more than needed to make sure I could cover any fees.

That's how, after an hour of calculating and trying to understand why the hell I need to add +15% more to my wallet to send the full payment, I found out that the shop had set the insane fee. Had I used my main address, I would've paid for the overpriced products without even noticing it.

Most of the websites I ever wanted to buy from wanted to charge me ~10% over the normal prices which adds up very quick. One of the latest attempt was on a quite popular website that tried charging me more than 15% more for paying with crypto (let's not forget the fact that their products are more expensive there than on most other shops anyway) and that's more than exaggerated.

This is a big, big turn-off for me. I reached the point where I want to use my BTC and the exaggerated prices just push me back. There's a big disadvantage: the fact that I'm from Romania and most good shops do not deliver here, but this proves one thing: there still are some milestones crypto-supporting shops have to reach before cryptocurrencies become a convenient method of payment in most countries and not just the large ones..
