Begging post for you or onbehalf of anyone is not allow. If any post deserve merit and someone willingly give than the post can achieve merit. There is no alternative option.

They don't like it when you beg, even perhaps when you are begging on behalf of others.

But I like your post and it's a great idea. People should collect merit worth posts and add them to this thread because someone should call them out. So what if you don't have merit points to give. That system doesn't work (as your post clearly demonstrates). Perhaps they need some sort of nomination process so older accounts can have some help. These are just people who didn't used to have to be involved at all in rankings and are now now for some reason expected to be rank granters of sorts and judges of post quality. Sucks for them. Who says that (1) want that role or (2) are good at it?

I like your post. I would give you merit for it, but I barley have any. But again, be aware...they are pretty touchy about merit and don't like people making suggestions like yours - from what I've seen.

And as a side, the best way to get merit seems to be to praise the merit system, not criticize it.

While its noble to want to get merit for deserving posts based on your own understanding, there is no unified parameter on what a deserving posts should be because we all have different things we attach values. For example, one of the posts you quoted there relates to mining while another relates to technical part of the blockchain ecosystem. These topics as interesting as they might sound to someone else, it does not appeal to me to give a single merit and that is why sometimes when I make post which in my own eye is of good quality, solve problems, add value and merits should be flowing, it does not happen while those ones I am not too keen about gets merited. I feel the merit system has come to stay and people should be encouraged to give merit but skeptical to do this because its limited and can be exhausted in no time.

Well you quoted me, but mistook me for the OP. Though I'm going to reply to your reply to me where you said "While its noble to want to get merit for deserving posts based on your own understanding, there is no unified parameter on what a deserving posts should be because we all have different things we attach values."

That right there is the problem with the merit system. It was built under a false assumption (probably several). That essentially, all new people must be screened by all senior people and that all senior people would know who deserve merit and therefore are the best way to screen all new people. Actually, as it turns out, research shows that untrained judges are really bad at being fair. Humans are humans.

As one of the other respondents said, people have now become obsessed with merit. Just one more unintended consequence of the design flaws.

just want to ask! how can i receive merits?
I think you know the way to get merits Grin. I just looked at your post history and it's almost cloged with full of bounty shits, even I couldn't get how you get two merits for just asking "can you help me with airdrop?" (Filipino language)

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

I don't know why mods can't take actions regarding this kind of merit abuse scenarios in ANN threads. I think we should take preventive measures in order to enhance the true value of merit system.

Understandable, the value of these posts is obviously subjective.  That's why I felt justified in starting this topic, to point out where I see value.  Most of you who've responded to this topic have been here a while, and may have become jaded to what us neophytes find valuable.

Every body has their reasons for coming here.  I came here to learn about mining, but in the process I learned how much more there is that I need and want to learn about crypto.  Not only have I come to realize how little I know about crypto, but also how much more there is to learn about this forum.

I've been using forums (mostly firearms related) for nearly two decades now.  I've seen 'em come and go.  But I don't think I've seen a forum with the volume this one has, it's so big!  In that light, I think the merit system is a good idea.  It helps to keep things pertinent by rewarding those who contribute value.

Again, I hope nobody thinks I'm criticizing the merit system, far from it.

- will skip proposal made by members registered after this post was made (so don't even bother)

Maybe I misinterpreted what his intention is with that statement.

I didn't see your registration date. Maybe you can ask. But, as said, I don't see any harm but the possibility of making the Meta even messier.

There are already existing posts asking for others to share what they consider to be meritable posts. Maybe it is better if you look for them and share those you consider with the OP. For instance: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/point-me-to-undermerited-posts-3040494
Please just read carefully the rules before posting.

I don't see any harm in sharing the post you consider to be undermerited, but, just to be organized, maybe this is better this way. If not, probably we are going to have posts like that every day.

I actually found that thread, but then I read this:

Well they blew me out on miming when they deleted my thread, and i had to go to another forum to get an answer.

I tend not to read posts that people suggest should be awarded with merit. Maybe I subconsciously agree with the Pharmacist. Also, I feel that somehow we should try to reduce the obsession with merit. It is really only useful for twitbook spammers and bounty hunters in my opinion. Whatever happened to learning about crypto?

You seem to be doing alright. You've already earned enough Merit to rank up once you have enough Activity, you're not a spammer, so keep going like this.
Thanks for looking my thread and your pleasent words means me a lot.

OP can expect scrutiny. If he did beg for his own alt, he'll be busted sooner or later anyway.
Yeah, that's all this is, scrutiny.  As I said, I'm not accusing him of anything, and my paranoia about alt accounts and clever scams is probably as bad as its ever been.

I have a few merits to give out, but the posts OP quoted are all out of my area--just like everything else in crypto--and that's why I didn't merit any of them.  I don't know anything about mining and therefore can't judge whether the posts are very helpful.  I'll take OP at his word that they were for him, but to me they're just a lot of technical jargon.

Haven't seen a lot of good posts lately worth meriting, but I'm going to keep looking.

You're right. Well, that post is still worth reading, so nothing much lost. I've merited the right post too.

This guy was right LoyceV, did you intentionally Merited LightZ's post or you accidentally Merited it instead of ImHash's post.
Seems like you accidentally Merited it because LightZ quoted ImHash's post and it somehow looks like the post is from ImHash. Not so sure though.

By the way, if I ran out of sMerits to give can I make a list posts that I think is Meritous too? So that you can have a review Smiley

OP doesn't look like the typical signature spammer. He doesn't even have a signature, and he uses the forum as a forum (instead of an ATM), selling a motorcycle and gun parts, and asking mining questions. I don't mind the rookie mistake of making the occasional useless post, because most of his posts aren't like that.

OP can expect scrutiny. If he did beg for his own alt, he'll be busted sooner or later anyway.
I won't merit the OP here, as I don't want to encourage people to dump lists to earn merit. But in this case, I assume good intentions and for that reason I'll check the posts. I appreciate new users who want to improve the forum, and lists like this bring me to parts of the forum that I don't usually read, which is nice.

@LoyceV,
Thanks for taking my suggestions into consideration.  And thanks for taking my request at face value.

I'm not here begging for merit for myself.  None of those posts I recommended are from me, I don't use alts, I'm not that tricky.  I'm not here for a job, I already have one I should be doing right now.  Shocked

I'm here to learn as much as I can about cryptocurrency and a huge part of that is learning what to avoid, and how to avoid it.  So, yeah that means researching the scummy parts of the forum where the shady shit goes down.

This isn't begging, and I don't really see anything necessarily wrong with it EXCEPT the first thing that came to mind was that there could be an alt of OP sprinkled among the quoted posts.  I recognize the first 4 members but haven't heard of the others.  It'd be a pretty sneaky trick to start up a thread with "Hey guys, plz merit these great posts!" and list some good posts from fairly established members, with the alt account somewhere in the mix.  I'm not saying this is the case, but you can see the danger in threads like this when intentions aren't pure.

Merited!

Merited and I posted in the thread.

Not merited. I doubt this should be in Services, as it's barely related to Bitcoin. But the main reason not to merit is that "free followers" are only used to spam more, and I don't think posts like that deserve more attention.

Not merited, it's kinda trivial information to me.

Not merited. It received 2 + 1 Merit already, and I know too little about the subject to assess its value.

Not merited. I know too little about the subject to assess its value, and it's on page 105, so I can't easily check if it adds any value to the thread.

This post didn't feel right. I've reported one of his other posts for plagiarism.

Not merited. I know too little about the subject, but it doesn't look too valuable to me.

Not merited. He's basically explaining Piskeante's short post. I considered meriting Piskeante instead, but again: I don't know enough about the subject to know if he deserves it.

Not merited. I know too little about the subject.

Talking consideration what The Pharmacist just explained....
I would like to ask the OP about some of the following topics. Why does he think these worth merits?

This topic in fact is in a wrong section.

I do not have good knowledge about mining however looking at the mega thread which originally created on last December having 108 pages of comments, how did you end up finding that specific topic for merit? Especially, when the user have not received a single merit yet even after having 140 activity. Going to his post history - I do not see a bright one.

What's special about it?

Listen, I am not saying all of the above are to suspect by the clue The Pharmacist just pointed out but there are some posts which rise the red flags.

A side note: I guess there is a hidden criteria before to pick up a merit source. It's the ability to spot good posts. It comes from experience and they gathered it from this forum. Not everyone can be a good merit spender especially those who do not have much knowledge about the forum.

I believe that the merit system has worked very well and it has also held members from ranking up except legendary who were already up there before the system was floated Shocked. So users shouldn't seek for tricky means to get sympathetic merit. And, no doubt that OP might have altcoin account(s) listed in the midst , as experienced users have alluded.
