at least a quiet weekend ahead on BSFL side

Wait, next week we have cup round? I think Trofo or cryptofrka said something like that somewhere. If that's the case, is someone interested in a sidebet? Maybe Trofo so he can lose again? Grin I'm offering a standard $50 in BTC. Let me know if anyone is interested.

All 3 of them are heavy favorites - so you could basically hedge by playing counter handicaps too.

didn't expect Swiatek to lose, but she didn't hold to first set won, obviously thought she already won, and that pit her down (didn't watch, so based on result)
and that brought us to a draw, maybe a fairest outcome, I was up in first half, you raised in second half, but missed penalty kick in overtime Smiley

while Swiatek looks easily going through.

Not the case mate, Iga Swiatek have just been knocked out by Linda Noskova, what a twist!!! I anticipated a less than an hour game after Swiatek took to first set 6-3, but then Noskova have done the unthinkable!

So, I can officially say that it's 3 points for me this round as well!  Smiley Smiley

Looking forward to the next round against yet another tough opponent @LTU_btc, and really, I hope I can keep this streak of mine going  Smiley

Football and tennis left but we only need to wait for tennis results CLS63. Our football brain is equal but you believe in every men in tennis while I didn't believe in Medvedev and Rublev so I can't see it go well. Medvedev is playing and leading while Swiatek looks easily going through.

I need this 3 points Tongue

No no, I obviously need slackovic to not win the question and he does when the three mentioned players win. I chose all 5 would make it into the next week, which is already dead in the water along with 4 players. Now there is Gauff, Swiatek and Sabalenka left and slackovic wins if all 3 succeed. I need one of them to be out before the second week or otherwise I would lose the last tennis question and slackovic can equalize.

Usually the hedge would be a parlay bet on all three winning their games, but the odds are so low that it's definitely not worth it. That's why it's complicated. Slackovic went with 3 players.

I'm not that into betting so I'm not sure what you two are talking about. I understand what a hedge bet is (to bet on an opposite result than your previous bet), but I'm not sure how that can help you with BSFL. I'm guessing it can't help you, but can win you some money if an answer is wrong. Do you bet on your answers in BSFL? Like when you submit your answers, do you also place bets on them?

What are the thoughts of our hedge pro @cryptofrka? Smiley How would you hedge against Gauff, Sabalenka and Swiatek reaching the second week at the AO? I can't really come up with a good idea for this one.

Well, only one by one - which makes it expensive if they all win.
I feel that Swiatek and Gauff don't need to be hedged - if they can walk, they will win. Sabalenka will probably as well - but she's the only one I'd hedge against.

All 3 of them are heavy favorites - so you could basically hedge by playing counter handicaps too.

Example - Noskova +6,5 is @2 odds. If Swiatek loses, you win - but at much lower odds.
There's a really good chance Swiatek wins but doesn't cover the handicap so you win both the BSFL point and some money by hedging like this Grin

I'm really happy for making it to the playoffs by the way.  Cheesy  It felt really awkward when I left this week without making any prediction. I have done some training with my team meanwhile and the players feel themselves ready for the next phase.  Grin  They are really excited about the chance of promoting to Division 2 and I will do my best for them also.

We are just waiting for our next competitor to do our best as of now.  Smiley

Hakan you played brilliant round, and I need a miracle in next few days to avoid defeat.
Medvedev must lose, West Ham to win and one more tennis girl to drop out.
Looks nearly impossible  Grin

Only 2 guys picked 0-1 goals for Japan -- both the legends of Div3A, hats off to you Spack and Kokee.
I was having second thoughts to pick 2 or 1 goal, but I choose 2 in the end  Tongue
This was really big surprise for me to see Japan losing, and did you see the odds on Iraq winning?  Grin

Yes, Carlos Sainz won the Dakar Rally, he finished 1st with 1 hour, 20 minutes ahead of his closest opponent.
61 years and he won  Shocked
I know he was really good but what are those guys in other teams doing, are they are going to let Sainz wins races until hi dies?

Division 3B log is scary  to look at,,,

mathematically as things stand... double H stands a good chance of winning this division provided he wins all his 3 remaining games and goes top regardless of a win from current  group leader results  Roll Eyes

I think the winning formula should be that of joining late, maybe luck any swing in this direction lol, may the best man win as we watch the action unfold Tongue

... based on the fact that it's women's tennis ...

/snip

Only because of that fact (that it's a women's tennis) I went with the option that two players will be eliminated in the first week. BSFL actually helped me here because I have never followed woman's tennis before and if someone asked me this two years ago, I would have surely said that all five will stay in the competition after one week. Now I just need that all three that are left stay in the tournament so that I get a draw against mv1986.

Man, I think that I have never had only two different answers. It kinda takes the fun out of it when almost all answers are the same.

I think your chances of winning the tennis question are pretty good. But as we have seen so far hiccups seem to happen over and over again in women's tennis. But Gauff, Sabalenka and Swiatek look very strong and the odds so far aren't even worth a parlay hedge bet as they are damn low.

What are the thoughts of our hedge pro @cryptofrka? Smiley How would you hedge against Gauff, Sabalenka and Swiatek reaching the second week at the AO? I can't really come up with a good idea for this one. Slackovic can (and probably will) still tie the round Wink I honestly forgot to place the hedge when Pegula played. Couldn't find the time, too bad. That would have made it easier.

After joining AFCON pool I realised that I know nothing about African football. Ok, I don't follow it that closely, but I didn't expected that I will do so bad. At least we don't have Asian cup pool - after looking at it results, I think I wouldn't do much better there.

Haha. Yeah, that was the main reas9n why I decided not to join that pool. La Liga pool is hard for me and it's a known Spanish league. I really don't know what to do and how to research African football.

Slava Ukraini!
So, seems that I already won this round as I have 6 correct answers and my opponent 3 and tennis questions already doesn't matter for me. Sorry @leea-1334, but I I really needed this win to get away from relegation zone.

Damn that AFCON games. I have no idea about nations that are playing the tournament so I went with Ivory Coast to win just like my opponent mv1986. I wouldn't count that as a problem if it weren't for the fact that we have only two different answers. It was a 50-50 choice for me (I don't like going for a draw in games I know nothing about) and I chose wrong Sad

It was above questions. I will paste it here for you. I guess it got lost since it wasn't actually part of question but like separate paragraph.

Australian Open has started and we will have two questions about it. For the purposes of these questions, we are counting the end of the week 1 to be when play finishes on Sunday 21.01.2024. Forfeits count as regular scores.

I guess that means last chance for Rublev to show that wether he will make it or not huh. I personally think he will make it to the next round but tennis is tricky so that also means last chance on our decider @chi20. I really need that 1 point to survive the relegation so Im going to watch the game to get the hype from it, anyone knows where to stream this though?

any update on Sainz? has he won? I just need him to win to secure 3 points 😁

Yes, Carlos Sainz won the Dakar Rally, he finished 1st with 1 hour, 20 minutes ahead of his closest opponent.

That's very good news 😁 It means I've already won this round so my players can already take the weekend off 😁

This means that those who are behind vd309 have the chance to get closer to him in the table 😁

Quick one @trofo @cryptofrka,  is the fourth round of the ATP inclusive in the tennis question considering that some of the matches will be played midnight on Sunday according to the time schedule. Because the question said first week and I was believing that the fourth rounds are part of the first week.

Yeah, I also wonder. I remember seeing the post where Trofo or cryptofrka have explained until when it's considered to be the first week of the tournament, but I can't find that post now. Or maybe it was in the question text, in the part that is not in the spreadsheet.
