Spreads in absolute dollars are not really relevant.
Look at percentage spreads instead: MtGox vs. Bitstamp is around 15% currently, somewhat but not a lot higher than usual.

thx for sharing that. I tought something was wrong, so I am not the only one!
Anyway, I opened a support ticket, hope to get those funds in asap (not for me, but for selling coins to friends, I am not selling my own coins Wink )
Same here, although for me it's still in the 3-day range (normally it takes less time). Intended to buy some coins today / yesterday, rather unfortunate as the price has been rising even more quickly in a short timespan.

Read across threads that there are some issues currently regarding deposits, I'm sure it will get resolved quickly. Would be nice if they would share such status updates through social media or something in the future though.

I was curious why there is such a huge spread too.  Is it hard to get money into Bitstamp?  I have not used the site but it seems like a great arbitrage opportunity for someone.

I should indeed add that it takes longer than normal to get money into bitstamp. Dont know why. I even opened a support tiket (waiting for more than a week now... normally it is a few days)

I don't know where you live but normally it takes 24/48 hours, now waiting almost a full week!

A $71 USD spread. I knew I should have turned down that last load of barn wood and converted all my money into bitcoins.

Actually, the return I get with flipping barn wood is still better than if had all my money tied up in bitcoins, albeit the gap is narrowing as the economy improves and more people started doing what I do.

What is this reference to "barn wood" a cannot find a source explaining this?  You mean "barn wood == USD"?  As in both good for burning?

Apologies for any misunderstanding. I reclaim barn wood for a living and was drawing a comparison of the profit margins between buying and selling such and investing in Bitcoin, albeit I do have some bitcoin holdings, and will have in my possession more once InstaWallet returns to me my 1100+ bitcoins.

The gap is now ~$79 between BS and MG.

^^ I just made it the other day... I wish comboy had something like this that you can toggle on bitcoinity! Maybe a dedicated page with individual exchanges to toggle on/off!

On my setup i can add  or move them on screen like this!! Here is a shot with just gox to the side..

While gox is at $605 Coinbase.com is at $530. That's an insane spread right there. Usually Coinbase.com is about $20 less. Why the disparity now?

Gox is coming down soon and Stamp will catch up on the correction. Stamp will also get a boost when Bitfinex money comes online there again.

Now when the bitfinex money goes on stamp, will bitfinex price fall to stamp price?  or will the price just sync up somewhere inbetween say $505 or something?

I ran into a flea market friend of mine today and he said to me that he, as well as I, missed out on some terrific yard sale a couple weeks ago. He stated the location and the pile of stuff already sold awaiting pick-up, all of which he desired. I smiled, then informed him that I only attended about a half dozen sales this year, with the one he described among them. I didn't have the heart to tell him how much I came out as a bandit, but I'm sure he knew I did/will do well.

He then proceeded to tell me how he recently paid $50 each for two rare slot machines, of which had the n word on the wheels. He profited close to $20K when he sold them to another dealer, and there was still margin to be had, but he wasn't greedy. Kenny's a pretty straight-up guy, and I've never had reasons to ever doubt his success stories.

Even btce (usually the most bearish exchange) is $40 higher than Bitstamp is right now lol. If I could do a quick arbitrage here I definitely would..
