Here you can see some tests like fire, acid, pressure, …

https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/reviews/willi-recovery-seed-plate/

You can see the matrix and can recover all your data to access your coins.
The laser removes a thin layer by vaporizing it. The more you repeat your pattern with the laser, the deeper it will be burned in.
I really enjoy reading Jameson Lopp review tests, and he rated your seed plate very good.
This is probably one of the cheapest A grade Metallic Bitcoin Seed Storage I found on his website, except maybe Steel Wallet, Hodlinox Single Plate and DIYSeed.
Are you selling them only on Bitcointalk forum?
I don't know what to enjoy in the review of tests, this is not a piece of art. Smiley There is nothing unusual there, a couple of tests of a stainless steel plate in different conditions. By the way, Jameson Lopp didn't indicate what temperature effects he had on the metal (how many degrees?).

I also really appreciate a piece of stainless steel plate, which can be cheaper, except perhaps in a hardware store.

Do you offer the option of re-burning the laser (several times) to deepen the drawing? For paranoid users for a fee.
Yes no problem, I can reduce the speed mm/sec. and set the 4 times to 10 or 20 times, that is no problem and will not really cost more, but for a small tipp I can do that. That is absolutely no problem.

My stainless steel plate is engraved with my fiber laser.

How do those laser engravers work these days?  I had one 10 years ago and it did a pretty bad job on metal.  The ease of use was amazing though.  They even show you where and what it will engrave before pushing the engrave button.  My engraver that I have always used directly engraves onto the metal with an engraver head.  That makes it pretty deep and on there forever in spite of whatever may happen to it.  I wonder if laser engraving is deep enough to feel or see the indentions as well as hold up to temperatures and scratches like a traditional engraver.  What is your take on it?

Here's Sam00's idea, here you spread your seed over 3 plates and hide each one separately, and if one is found by an unauthorized person, everything is still safe since you need two out of three plates.

Plate 1: words 1-8 and 17-24

I will also be interested to get one but I am afraid to get it because of the distance and the probability cost charge. I will like op to give the cost break down of the stainless steel plate to Nigeria. If the price is okay with me then I order one to be shipping. The weight should not exceed 25kg.
shipping to Nigeria cost ~25 USD up to 2kg

You didn't put them on acid !   Grin  Grin

It was Lopp who has done the test, not Willi.
And it was put into acid, actually. As you can see, one of the points was the corrosion test. And, if you look up for the methodology, the corrosion test means keeping the plate in acid for 12 hours:

Corrosion
The device is submerged in a bucket of 16% muriatic acid and left for 12 hours or until bubbling ceases. Are strong acids a threat vector you should be worried about? Probably not, but these tests are extreme in order to see which devices stand out from the pack!
The more different tests are carried out with the Recovery Seed Plate, the more complete information about the capabilities of this storage medium can be obtained, which allows taking into account the resistance to external influences during storage of this plate. Of course, this is good, but the acid test seems exotic to me, because acid is extremely rare in domestic conditions, not to mention that somehow it gets on the seed plate. Hypothetically, such a possibility exists, but with a very small chance. A piece of metal is still a piece of metal (of course, stainless steel) and it takes a lot of time to destroy the text from the surface. So, don't worry about the acid test.

Hammer and marker can buy at any hardware store (or look in your toolbox). I don't think that a piece of this inox plate will also be difficult to find.

I find willi9974 set more a collectible set than something I'd mess with. I may have odd taste, but the plate with the mount, the HOLD Hammer and marker seem to ask to be shown, not hidden away.

If I would ever have good reason to store the seed on steel, I'd probably go for the washers, really. Your setup looks complicated. And complicated usually asks for troubles (in 10 years, not now).

could use it to put a private key to an address you dont fund then Smiley then it could be displayed. just never use that one lol

Indeed, also an option! Just then we switch from realm of bitcoin collectibles to... maybe (modern) art!  Cheesy Cheesy

To all members who want to make their recovery on strong metal,
You don't need all this !

Gests are welcome too  Tongue

You can just purshase any of "strong metal" plates and write your seed in the Morse code using two different sizes of drills!   (piercing it)

Writing the word "Metal" for example would looks like this:
Quote

*  *  *  *  *
*        *  *
            *

I think the Coinplate looks more professional and probably more valuable as a collector's item, but I think willi9974's seed plate is more practical and perhaps more durable. If I had to choose, I would choose this one for my personal use.

Good luck with testing and thanks for posting notification here!
I am sure your plate won't be placed last, there are some terrible metal plates tested by Lopp, they partially used aluminum or bad systems with multiple parts.
Stuff like this fall apart under stress and pressure, and anything that is solid like your plate, that is made from stainless steel showed much better results.
I wrote recently there are two types of stainless steel good for backup, that is 304 (better melting points) and 316 with better corrosion properties and can survive even in salt water.

I cant see any weaknesses of the letters and engraving wearing off, once you
stamp your plate with the punch you are supposed to hide it away until it is needed
to recover your seed, its not supposed to be propped up on full display for everyone
to see.

As regards the idea that it is more of a "collectable" set, yea that may come across
as a possibility but the key item is the plate, which can be bought on its own, or buy
2 plates, a hammer and punch, use one plate and display the second if you like it as
a collectable.

@willi9974 - an added benefit which you could consider is to drill a hole in the 4 (or 2)
corners so that the plate can be screwed to something else. The beauty of the flat
plate is it can be attached to something inaccessible and be inconspicuous .

My stainless steel plate is engraved with my fiber laser.
Thanks for your clarification.

What are the weaknesses when using this method of applying text (if they exist at all)? Over time, the information will not be erased and it will not turn out that seed-phrase can't be read (this is where a stencil with a table template with rows of letters and numbers would come in handy)?

Waiting for answers from Lopp?  Smiley

Hasn't been tested there yet, but it's a good idea and can be done.
In my opinion, however, the Seed Plate should do very well here, because stainless steel in the thickness should be very resistant.
If nothing else, sending it to Lopp for testing would certainly bring more attention to your stainless steel plate, and who knows maybe it gets rated high on the table.
He was testing all of them for corrosion, crush test, heat, price and gives them overall rating.
Not all stainless steel are equal, and more thickness is better for sure Wink

PS
Let us know if you decide to send him plate for testing, I would love to read review.

Yes, I understand. For each product there will always be a buyer and I am sure that for many it will be easier to buy Seed Plate from you. Not everyone will be able to make it by hand without the necessary skills and tools, but in your case everything is already available.

Could you tell me by what method the table and symbols are applied to your plate? Is it paint, laser engraving, something else?

I'll start with questions:
- How is the text printed on the plate?
- Can text be erased?

Your business model is ideal for the lazy, and for the rest I can offer a cheap version.

Hammer and marker can buy at any hardware store (or look in your toolbox). I don't think that a piece of this inox plate will also be difficult to find. It is unlikely that you will be able to find the right size in the store, but in principle it is possible to find it (or cut it to the right size on your own).

Instead of putting text on the plate, can use a stencil (template) containing numbers, letters, cells as on your metall plate. Apply a stencil on top of the plate and make marks, after which remove the stencil and get a clean plate with dots in a chaotic manner. Try to understand and guess what the dots on the sheet of metal mean.  If still violate the order of the letters on the stencil, it will be almost impossible to decipher the info.

If use a stencil instead of printed text, this will increase the security of storing information from unauthorized persons.

Something like this, but instead of this drawing, draw your table with cells, letters and numbers.

But the stencil creates an additional weak point: need to save it (loss is fraught with bad consequences forever) and save it from others (it’s not critical without a plate). I think even storage on your PC is possible (can print it when you need it), because it will be just a stencil-template, which in itself doesn't carry anything important. Even if it leaks into the network, it is useless without a plate.

In my opinion, the option with pucks seems to me more interesting - Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers. But with a slight correction (saw in your thread): put only the first 4 letters of each word on the washer, which will allow to fit 2 words at once (the first 4 letters of each) on 1 washer. This will reduce the number of washers to 12 (in the case of 24 words) and to 6 (in the case of 12 words). This is appropriate if you strive to reduce the object.

Stainless Steel is super cool metal for backing up seed phrase, but I don't like the idea of combining words and letters in grid system for seed words.
Much cheaper alternative for this is using stainless steel washers, that become my personal favorite and other members in forum created additional tools and instructions for that.
Back on your plate, I have a question, did you send it for extreme testing to Jameson Lopp, to see if it will survive and what rating it has? Wink

Allright I feel kind of dumb but... I can't figure out how to use it to store a seed phrase

Seed information
Each seed word can be uniquely identified by its first 4 letters, so 4 letters per seed word is all you need. Please mark the first 4 letters of each of your 12 seed words to keep your Bitcoin seed safe. if you have a 24 word seed, you need two plates.

Distribute the seed over several plates:
Here's Sam00's idea, here you spread your seed over 3 plates and hide each one separately, and if one is found by an unauthorized person, everything is still safe since you need two out of three plates.

Plate 1: words 1-8 and 17-24
Plate 2: Words 9-15 and 17-24
Plate 3: Words 1-8 and 9-15

Any questions, please ask me per PM

Best Regards from Germany
