It is a tragedy that the message signing feature in Bitcoin Core is broken because it can no longer create an address that it can use for signing.
What do you mean that the message signing feature in Bitcoin Core is broken? Huh

You can easily create addresses that it can use to sign messages... on the console use the getnewaddress command and pass it the "legacy" parameter as the address_type:
Code:
getnewaddress "label" "address_type"

for instance:
Code:
getnewaddress "staked address" "legacy"

That will generate a "1-type" legacy address (with the label "staked address") that you can use to sign messages... giving it a meaningful label will also make it easier to find in your "address book" from the "Sign Message" screen.

Yeah the search function of the forum...not great ! Tryninja's one is fine though, thanks, I will use it.

Bitcoinsummoner : if I had done it I would have used an electrum wallet, but I have several old ones and I'd need some time to remember the passwords, so a quick search just to see if I have posted was ideal, now I now there is no need to bother. I will repair my mistake and sign a message now.

Hello all. Dumb question but this thread is 557 pages long, how do I know if I have signed an address here ? I think I might have but can't remember for sure.
Click on search: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search
Then write your wallet ID on Search for. https://prnt.sc/vituzp
Then click on check all if not checked. And finally click on search: https://prnt.sc/vitvb5

In this way you may get the post if you already posted on the forum.

You can use the search funtion on the forum, or the improved one on Tryninja's website. I did the quick search for you, and you hace staked none here

I strongly disagree; in case of using the forum search function, he should only select the Meta board, and add an author to the search function. It is more precise, and usually faster

Quoted, but I'm having a hard time to verify your signed message using brainwallet and electrum. I guess using next line on your signed message is the cause of this?

Yes, I think that the new line at the end is the source of all the problems.

In brainwallet try to use the QT version, paste the message without the extra new line. Then just add it yourself and it will work, but in the permalink will fail to verify, weird.
Looks like a bug, just report it Smiley

I managed to verify it somehow with brainwallet  but the weird thing is that I cannot get the permalink to work.
Here's a screenshot of the verified message :
