Hello guys! I just read an article that says addresses start with 3 don't have signed message functionality. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks

No, that's an article's mistake or you misread it. You can sign messages on each kind of address. Whether it's a P2PKH, also known as legacy,  (1...) or a P2SH (3...) or a Bech32 (bc1...).

Have you tried electrum? It's an open source wallet that can do literally anything compared to some other wallets, such as the online ones. It can sign and verify messages.
Oh I see. I haven't tried using it. I do prefer using the coins ph app before it is easier and I more applicaple app to use in our country
Coins doesn't have a signed message feature since you don't have the access of the private keys of the address you're assigned with, and that's disadvantage of using non-custodial wallet or I'll say an exchange since it works like that. I'll suggest to use electrum and mycelium if you want to sign a message and if you want to have staked an address here for the recovery purposes of your account in case of hacked or etc.

From where you have read that there has no functionality to sign message by the address which starts with 3 or something else. As further as I know you can sign a message from any address if you have private key of the address.
Is that so? Maybe its the app that doesn't support the signed message functionality. I created my bitcoin wallet using Coins Ph app. Are you familiar with that? I tried searching there are no sign message stuff there.

Roll Eyes what for people would post bitcoin address here will someone send something

No one will send anything here. This is only to prove the ownership of the account during a period of time. You post your address and later you sign a message from it and you prove to be the same guy that controls the account.
Sometimes accounts are sold with a stacked address and pr.keys but that's not so often.

It's all about preventing newbies from being scammed.

I did verify Peanutswar  had a correct message.

Code:
This is Peanutswar, OCT 2 2020, bc1qh45r8qdp5zqf5cux77sq0k3gmjdljv4jdac0n0

This means he owns the key. but I recommending he remakes using a common format.
No, you didn't verify anything and it doesn't mean he owns the key... Your image is telling you what "address" that message+signature combo would need to be "valid"... however, as the address being "staked" is obviously "bc1qh45r8qdp5zqf5cux77sq0k3gmjdljv4jdac0n0", the screenshot you took is proof of nothing. Roll Eyes

You can test this yourself... Once you have a "signature", you can put whatever message you want and it will tell you what the "expected" address is...

For instance... here is the "demo" address+message+signature:
Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
This is an example of a signed message.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
1HZwkjkeaoZfTSaJxDw6aKkxp45agDiEzN
HHXLKIFZ7LWR5YZ2rbScJ7IMkbPEz58dAVGc38uyGfSEX2mR/tm82QVqSNjcSrgR3MVGhyztU8lTFBgXjmQCDPQ=
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
permalink

Now, I can take that signature, remove the address... and then use any message I like and it will give an address... However, this does NOT "verify" anything.

You're right about that, legit should be the first priority. But i think both tools vanitygen and vanitysearch are legit and safe when you run this tools on a offline pc system that never before goes online.
Offline tools are definitely better than an online service where you can never be sure that the private key won't end up in someone else's hands while it is being created

I think I will just use vanitygen (not that damn site) but the one from samr7 - and generate my own.

You can also use VanitySearch from Jean_Luc. This tool runs ~4 times faster than vanitygen to find a address with your own prefix.
I'm doing the same task these days with an old CPU and the estimated time with Vanitygen was significantly higher.

recently checked one scam accusation about the hack of vanity address, so it is time to know which vanity address generator sire are legit an which are not. And it is very important to know either legit or not than which is faster or slower. I mean legit should be the first priority.
