Man this is huge news!!! I'm going nuts on this!!! Although that I am not a fan of Los Angeles Lakers or Clippers, this is a history in the making!!! Now crypto adoption and mainstream will be accelerating even more.

Thoughts on this guys? This is really exciting for crypto enthusiasts!!!!

For me as a historical person and I love history I would not let change the name of the Staples Cente like its history the name it will be known that way.

Also same as you I am going nuts they are changing it? for what? Money?

Quote
Crypto.com paid more than $700 million for the 20-year naming rights, according to the Times.

All I would say we, people of today are a slave of money and some does not care about history in the making.

I don't know about the business they may say it's a brilliant move but I am against it. Maybe if I am business-minded and all maybe I would understand this such thing.

I wonder if we will see an effect on the price of BTC because of this news. this is quite big and the exposure cryptocurrency because of this will be huge. that being said, I also wonder how many people will have a problem with this. I mean, Staples Center must have been a nostalgic memory for someone, and seeing it being renamed would probably have an effect on them.
It will definitely be a big effect, I mean it's a stadium that has a lot of basketball and other events have been held so it's not like it's going to fly under the radar of the event goers especially with the signboards and total name change, I don't think that only a blind and deaf man would miss it. I don't think that bitcoin will get the full effect though, I think that it's more likely that Crypto.com's crypto would get the credit more.

as people who are not aware of crypto might be curious, and they would never think it's a scam since LA Lakers promoted them.
I wouldn't be so sure about that! Imagine what a newcomer investor would think after seeing drastic reductions in value, for some of their investments.

I saw the announcement earlier and it surprise me because of all the names, they focus on crypto as if it will gonna be the next big thing in the next decades to come and it will be since we see these companies adopting the crypto industry one after another.
They didn't focus on any name or brand, but rather on who's willing to pay the most amount [in the shortest time] for the naming rights of their arena.

Who knows, maybe someday the Grand Canyon will be called Amazon View or iCanyon.

For the right price, nothing is impossible, because everything is for sale. Maybe even Matt Damon will add crypto as his middle name or make a movie called Cryptonian - at least that's how it seems to me when I visit their site, it looks like some movie portal, not a crypto exchange Roll Eyes

And this is why crypto.com coin had a huge bull run recently. It's a good news, but I don't think anyone who aren't crypto enthusiast would notice anything. I mean people are still going to call it Staples. We have seen name changes a lot, but people still call them using their old names. Like most of the people still call Sears tower as the Sears tower. Call it Willis tower, I am sure there are people that won't recognize the name. But yeah, good for crypto.com. At least people will notice it because of the ".com" lol.

Thanks to this particular altcoin project's name the renaming of the Staples Center will probably benefit more than just the project alone. Had this project remained Monaco, this promotion might end up serving only their own brand and not the entire cryptocurrency community.

This is big news indeed. And Crypto.com is already benefiting from this news. This kind of active marketing is not new to Crypto.com. The brand has been aggressively promoted around the world in so many ways big and small.

The funny thing is that Los Angeles Lakers fans are absolutely NOT happy about this name change.

Not only fans, but also famous people like Kobe Bryant's wife or LA Clippers player Paul George, who consider it a move that will in some way take away the history that is directly related to the name that the center had for many years. People are sentimentally attached to these things and find it hard when someone sells the name of a sports arena or football stadium, and I believe many will be disappointed with this move. But no one asked the fans what they thought about it, only money matters and there is a lot of it here.

Even the players aren't happy about it.  Russell Westbrook joked that they will soon call it "Crip Arena" in what I can only assume is a misguided attempt at humor or maybe he knows something about satoshi that the rest of us don't.  Smiley

This whole brands on buildings and jerseys isn't anything new.  I remember being pissed off when Candlestick Park became 3com park.  That's when I sort of stopped thinking of manmade buildings as having their own identities.  Who knows, maybe someday the Grand Canyon will be called Amazon View or iCanyon.

I think it's a very fortunate event, especially due to the naming of the company. If it were something like Coinbase or Binance, it would only promote a particular company, and people who aren't into cryptos might not even know what it means and what business the company's in. But 'crypto.com', while definitely advertising this specific company, also clearly has the name 'crypto' in it, so I think it counts as a general publicity of cryptocurrencies as well. Hopefully, by hearing 'crypto' more, people will be motivated to learn more themselves and then choose the services and providers of services they are interested in themselves.

Having something that is everyone's face about BTC and crypto in general is a good thing.
I am not a fan of crypto.com but I think if you asked just about anyone here who is good in the crypto field you would get a ton of answers.
Is the crypto.com arena any worse then Gemini stadium or The Coinbase theater?

I saw this news late last night and shared it with all of my discord groups and friends who I thought might be interested in seeing it. The funny thing is that Los Angeles Lakers fans are absolutely NOT happy about this name change.  Even though I understand the hate, as like with the Sears tower being named the Willis Tower, no one here in Chicago calls it that, however it's simply a business move so who cares at the end of the day is my thing.

New Yorker: "Who cares, they are just Laker fans"

But seriously, it is like you said, people will call it whatever they are used to. There are several small venues here that have not had their old names for years that are still referred to by them. Some others I know have sponsors but you only see them on the tickets and on the venue. Not really referred to that way.

Well they have been putting money in advertising for a long time, I have seen them in MMA and recently Matt Damon  was seen in a commercial, the impact is direct because given the name "crypto" he ends up indirectly advertising the entire niche.

In addition to that, for example, we are seeing an entertainment website or news traditional (global) TV not related to the world of crypto currencies, getting involved, consequently the diffusion becomes massive.

At old times car brands fought for names in stadiums, eXchanges are coming!!

Heard some of the people there aren't really fond of the name change, and I understand the sentiment considering that the name stands as it was for long and all of a sudden, its name is changed into something else. Then again, it's just a name change, and people can still keep calling it whatever they want. Crypto.com would probably be receiving a lot of page views and will be the talk of the town for some time before the hype dies down. I wonder if this might even cause people to search cryptocurrencies yet again due to their curiosity, and fuel another pump in the near future.

And just yesterday I read that Porto FC (Portuguese serial winners and Champions League alumni) will get Binance on their jersey next month. But yeah, an actual stadium named after an exchange is pretty big a deal, even if I've never heard of that stadium before. Welcome Crypto.com even if I don't use (or really like) them.

A lot of fans hated it when their beloved stadiums were named Emirates (England) or Allianz (Germany). I'd definitely be against Anfield being called some company instead. Sgn of the times.

Crypto.com obviously made a lot of profit when they can hire actor Matt Damon for their commercials and invest bunch of money in sport clubs and arenas, but I am not sure how this can benefit Bitcoin in any way.
They are promoting custodial wallet with earning small interest, with mandatory kyc and offering payment cards, but that can only mislead many people about real value and importance of Bitcoin.
Other thing they promote is their own token and blockchain they call fully decentralized, but in reality it's not really decentralized.
I understand this is their business model and they want to be profitable, but I don't like it personally.

I'm really excited if they thinking to create their own NFTs where we can buy some NBA goods in the form of NFTs. it's just mere speculation from my side but judging in the turn of events, looks like they will gonna make something like that.

I bought the token when it was 0.17$ and I thought at that time that I bought it at a very high price but I have this feeling that this coin will go higher at any given time that is why I bought it. Another reason why I bought it is because I want that card and also because of Supercharger as well. Passive income just by putting the CRO tokens into a pool and you will earn different coins every 45 days at least.

I saw this news a few hours ago and I think this is also the reason why in the past few weeks, CRO's price is increasing. Well, the first one to do this is the FTX arena at Miami and they are the second I think. Either way, this is a good advertisement not only for the company itself but cryptocurrency in general.

I wonder if we will see an effect on the price of BTC because of this news.

Why would something like that affect the price of Bitcoin? One facility will be named after a crypto exchange, but that does not mean sending a message to anyone to invest in Bitcoin, but to promote general cryptocurrency trading.

In addition, it has become very popular to sell the rights to the name of such facilities, so one such agreement was made back in June in Miami when the popular Miami Heat’s arena changed its name to FTX arena - so I don’t understand anyone considering this as "huge news".

Crypto.com is the second cryptocurrency company to land a sports arena in the United States in recent months. FTX reached a $135 million to rename the Miami Heat’s arena from the American Airlines Arena to FTX Arena in June.
