I will say women entrepreneurs are out there and probably in larger numbers than most presume.
No doubt, but that doesn't necessarily mean there are more women using bitcointalk than most presume.

I tend to think that some people intentionally fill out the wrong gender in their personal info field in order to obfuscate their identities, and even if all the data were cobbled together for members that did choose a gender, it wouldn't be entirely accurate.  From what I've seen of the massive number of signature spamming shitposters that make up the vast majority of members here, they don't disclose very many personal details, either in their posts or in their forum profile.  Thus it's really hard to know how many females we have here.

It'd be interesting to know, however.  I think most members are male, just as I think most bitcoiners are male--but I really have no idea what the numbers are.  From my personal experience I've known a small handful of people who've owned bitcoin, and they're all guys.  I know some women who know about bitcoin but who've never actually owned any.  That's only my personal, very small data set, but I bet less than 10% of members here are women.

First of all, the correct word is "women". I don't know if English is your native language, but you should note that "female" is most commonly used as an adjective, not a noun, and in English it is generally impolite to refer to people with a bare adjective.

Second, many prominent members (myself included) have a tendency to provoke confusion in others concerning their gender(s). Lauda's gender, for example, is known with certainty by only 3 people, and they all disagree on what it is. So don't put too much faith in the accuracy of anyone's claims. Smiley

If you open your profile link you can see word female written in English
Is this 'correct' or not ?

let's not get nit-picky in this forum please

It took me a bit to find the post where I’d provided this Information before:

<…> Looking over @piggy’s full profile database (generated at the beginning of December 2018), the gender field shows:

-   Male value informed:                      95.831 profiles (3,86% of all profiles)
-   Female value informed:                  20.308 profiles (0,82% of all profiles)
-   Uninformed or invalid content:   2.365.131 profiles (95,32% of all profiles)

Therefore, the ratio, based on the informed gender field, is 4,7 male per female. Now I don’t really believe the above ratio too much. It’s what the data shows, but the gender is highly uninformed on the profiles, and I’ve seen quite a few bot bursts creating accounts and adding a gender randomly.

I guess that, due to the lack of female representation, it seems quite usual to refer to apparently male profiles as “she”, especially when the discussion scales a tone or two …
The male to female ratio is the same as that on the official stats.

Take a step back and answer "why" you want to know?

Taking two steps back - because I want to see more active females in bitcointak forum and bitcoin space.
They can be the key for future wider adoption.

And it's only for fun...no super specific reason, no secret agenda and no hidden plan

However, most of the users I know and see active are males,
but maybe you can show me some good active female members that I missed Wink

I think nobody will post publicly about any active female on this forum, most of them did not even select gender option because they want to be anonymous. But I can say you that we have few very active and high ranked female on forum, you just need to pay more attention and you will surely notice them Wink

Very good. I am happy to hear this and I will keep my eyes open for sure  Shocked

You really should leave well enough alone.  Give women your respect and more importantly their right to privacy.

 Roll Eyes   Shocked

No women disrespecting in my post or in my life.

I appreciate you switch on to you altaccount just to say this wise words

I am guessing the scrapers can do it or not, just tagging @LoyceV and @DdmrDdmr regarding this.
I don't want to scrape a couple of million profiles just to count girls Tongue
But there's this: Open scraped data of all the users - SQL Lite DB - 2.481.270 users

Thanks

I am not looking for exact data, since forum gender selection is optional.

But I think it is updated stats, because the statistic on Total Members, looks fine at 2654474, as of writing.

I think so too, the most recent registered member stats also seems to be updated, as I refreshed and it changes in real time. Regardless, it is impossible to get an accurate figure for the total number of registered unique females here on the forum.

In the More Stats at the bottom of the home page, you can see the current ratio of male to female members. Which is currently 4.7 males to 1 female.
I am not sure that figures is real time one or regularly updated one (daily/ weekly). Because I know that there are statistics on that page, stopped providing publicly to forum community, since December of 2017. (I meant, Forum History (using forum time offset), you can see that part in the page bottom).
But I think it is updated stats, because the statistic on Total Members, looks fine at 2654474, as of writing.

In the More Stats at the bottom of the home page, you can see the current ratio of male to female members. Which is currently 4.7 males to 1 female. You can use the total number of members to calculate how many males and females there would be. This would not be entirely accurate as some could fill in a different gender or some would choose not to be identified with any as it's not a prerequisite when registering an account.

If only our search feature for our users is more advanced I guess that would do, but it only restricted to just 5 (see image below).

Data may be known but I guess that will still be vague as some users will just input their genders as "female" on their profile info even though they are not (just explaining that might be the scenario).

Only admin can have such stats, I guess so, like logged-in IPs.
In addition, theymos weekly dumps two sets of data: trust and merit.
You can check it yourself by downloading those data sets. There is no available variable for users' gender.
Download datasets here:
Here you go: https://bitcointalk.org/merit.txt.xz

Similar to trust.txt.xz, it'll be updated weekly. It will show only the last 120 days of data; someone else should archive the old ones if you want them.

I am especially interested in analyses of this data which could point to sub-communities where the initial sMerit is exhausted and new sources are necessary, and people who might be good merit sources.

Edit: Note that for a little while I had user_to and user_from as names, but I decided to change it to IDs.
Even if theymos' data dumps includes that variable (gender), it is a potentially significant biased statistic, because users might arbitrarily choose gender option that are not their real gender. There is no way to know that users honestly choose their gender, because there is no KYCs in forum, so far.

I have one question for Stats experts and nerds  Grin

- Do we know how many Females are in Bitcointalk community?
With that option selected in Profile settings.

Is there any way to know this or not?
