I agree 100% with the OP. Storing achieves nothing. If we all store coins, there will be no crypto acceptance, there will be no innovations and new services.

You may be right in some aspects but bitcoin is like asset so whatever they like to do they can. As bitcoin market cap is quite low compared to other assets so bitcoin is facing lots of manipulation in trading which i don't think is related to holding bitcoin. Some of us are not good at figuring out what investments will beat inflation. For us, saving means losing spending power if we do it in fiat. However bitcoin gives us an option to save that does beat inflation.
You use bitcoin how you want and yes, I do spend bitcoin.
I also do things like make a bitcoin cold address for something I want but can't justify in my budget. I put what I can justify into that cold address and wait for the value of bitcoin to increase. Then when it has increased enough, import the private address and buy.
I can't do that without holding them until bitcoin value has increased enough.

I do spend my coins from time to time but I can't keep spending as there is not much that I need that I can pay for with Bitcoin. That's the whole thing.
I think it is our best interest to do whatever we can to make bitcoin well known. There are lots of ways to do that including spending a little bit here and there.
Someone need make a PR on Energy production companies / Oil traders to offer their products it in BTC

Maybe the bitcoin protocol should include a "negative interest rate" to promote spending? Oh well, the protocol seems to be a deflationary ones, so storing of bitcoins is actually by design...
