I believe some countries (Israel for example) make exemptions based on religious beliefs and other things (parenthood, criminal record, etc). There is one notable exemption though - Singapore. They routinely imprison Jehova's Witnesses for refusing the draft. If Sweden ever get a right-wing, anti-immigration gov't, they'll probably love the idea.

Even no one will force you to serve. There will still be a contract army. It has already been proven that this is effective. As one learned philosopher said, you want peace, prepare for war. Maybe this is the case.

Why some organization (government) can force other people to do free work? Conscription is a form of slavery!
It may be morally acceptable if govt required people to serve in army to get welfare or so called "basic income", but never for free!

Although I hate to see any kind of draft, one of the duties of living in a place is being prepared to defend it against foreign aggression. With that being said, I find it highly unlikely that Sweden will actually go to war with Russia, so the worse that will come of this is that alot of young adults will get a salary, a free resume builder, and discipline. The armed forces aren't for me, but they do build character and discipline. I'm for anything that builds a better person. I think that all the countries should be well prepared reserve. The army of course needs to be professional. I think the right way to make a year of army majors and one month annual practice must be in any state.

That is not a bad idea but rather a good one. It does not only provide additional military force if a threat occurs but it also will train the youth about discipline and patriotism. Sweden though a neutral country must prepare for any odds that will come its way. As the saying goes prevention is better than cure, that is why training people to increase military power is one way of leveling up the country's defense from any external threat.
