limit of 200 upgrade units. so is this 28TH total? is my math right if each unot is 140 Gh/s ?
28 Th/s would be a drop in a bucket...

Agreed.  The Nov preorders will be two orders of magnitude more.  It is likely the "left overs".  They ordered so many hosts, cases, etc, used their inventory of parts to build the Sept/Oct/Nov orders and they came up with 200 extra boards.  Sell off the lot.  Why not? The value of ASICs goes down over time.  Why wait for the next batch just sell them off for less?

It was always the case of what volume of RMAs would occur once shipping commenced being an unknown. Also if there was to be any yield issue beyond firmware, so there was in essence a float of modules kept.

Now that's complete, the surpless can be sold as the promised upgrades, and priced fairly.

Any idea when they start shipping batch#2??

As planned, nothing's changed in the timeline as far as I'm personally aware, around mid-Nov, which is almost here, the facility will start production again, with everything set for a Nov delivery. I'm not stupid enough to make any promises myself as I cannot be arsed with dealing with the flack again, and I never made any last time! Wink

Huh  They use Bitpay - It will be based on w/e the btc/usd exchange rate is at the time of purchase.

I truly hope you are keeping 4 modules in stock for mine as I'm sending them some time in the near future.

And I determined with certainty that in fact the problem is in the software and not hardware, yet my only option is RMA.

Cyper there are four modules for you as I said, but you're dicking around not sending them! Wink

What if RMA's are needed in the future?  SOL?

There is a float there as well solely for RMA, that won't be sold.

So we're looking at another 2-3 PH/s?  That's not actually that bad..

I would say maybe a max of 3 to 4 PH/s (KNC is closer to 3 PH/s and everyone else combined drops a 1 PH/s).  Unless someone has a surprise waiting ....
CT and HF are not shipping until Dec.  HF first Batch is "small" looking like 0.5 PH/s (funny how half a PH/s is now small).  Cointerra is looking like 2 PH/s and HF second batch (and upgrades) is another 2 PH/s so Dec could either be light (0.5 PH/s or heavy >4.5 PH/s).

You can start penciling in what you think 2013 is going to end.

D&T,

don't forget bitmine.ch which should have some serious hashing at 2TH/s per unit starting delivering around december

I would say maybe a 3 PH/s seems likely (4 PH/s if KNC's Nov batch is towards the high end and others can pull together another Petahash.
CT and HF are not shipping until Dec so for Nov it really just is BFL, Avalon, AsicMiner, Bitfury and all of those are pretty opaque but I can't see a massive surprise.  It just takes more and more haspower to move the difficulty (i.e. if BFL was shipping 0.2 PH/s per month and doubled that it would still "only" be 0.4 PH/s).  For Dec, HF first Batch is "small" looking like 0.5 PH/s (funny how half a PH/s is now small).  Cointerra is looking like 2 PH/s and HF second batch (and upgrades) is another 2 PH/s.  Dec really comes down to how much of that ships in Dec and how much slips to Jan.

Having completed our first shipment. We have taken stock of remaining inventory. We now have some available to sell as the promised upgrade modules. These upgrade modules will be available for sale tomorrow on the KnCMiner site, at 2pm CET (8am EST). They are priced at $950 (USD), but exclusively for sale in Bitcoins (BTC). They are only available for sale to existing KnCMiner customers, and will only work with units from the October shipment, as board modifications make them incompatible with the November revision.

I sure hope I qualify as an existing customer.

I purchased my October Saturn from someone else, not directly from KnC.

I'm not sure how they'd manage that.  It would seem to open the door to anyone making such a claim.  I suppose we shall see.

I'm talking about my Jupiter order from Saturday now making me an existing customer.

Yes, I understand your situation.  And this is nothing more than conjecture.

However, "existing customer" in this context would seem to imply "someone who purchased an October unit from us", especially when you consider the note about them only working in the October units.  If they intend to enforce that interpretation, they would have to use existing order history - possibly even tying the upgrade mechanism to the original order.

and it's not a terrible price.  1Gh of USbees is like $50 still and these modules would be around $6.75

Yeah.  I wouldn't be surprised if we hit $1/GH/s by Mar or April 2014, along with a peak in price valuation followed by a collapse (as with the GPU explosion)

Hmmmm I'm intrigued by the upgrade modules for my Mercury but I have a feeling that it won't be that great for another 150GH with the difficulty mounting up. But at the same time, if the price keeps increasing, does the difficulty even matter? Everyone yammers on about difficulty hikes, but ignore the price hikes happening at the same time - whether related or not.

they'll tell you to just buy bitcoins yadda yadda...  but if you buy bitcoins and have a trigger selling finger, you are playing the market.  To some, just the fact that a miner holds you from selling quickly is a plus in a weird controlling way

the only equation is did you end up with more money this year than last.. no matter the path

yes, my Jupiter for example:

Nice it looks like just the connectors are missing.  Finding a compatible connector on digikey shouldn't be too tough.  You don't by any chance have a caliper do you? Smiley  Getting the pitch (distance between holes) is all that is needed.
