Hmmmm I'm intrigued by the upgrade modules for my Mercury but I have a feeling that it won't be that great for another 150GH with the difficulty mounting up. But at the same time, if the price keeps increasing, does the difficulty even matter? Everyone yammers on about difficulty hikes, but ignore the price hikes happening at the same time - whether related or not.

Sucks for those that had 2 of their ports physically removed.

Anyone have a photo of a board with only 4 ports?  If it is just the physical connector is not present, they are through hole components so those handy with a soldering iron should be able to add the component.  If they are a different PCB which doesn't even have the traces and holes for the extra 2 ports or lots of other components are absent well that is a different story.

I don't see why they would remove the traces but leave the holes.

Other SMD components being absent I could see.

So will the Jupiter run with 6 modules? With what PSU?

Yes, I'm currently running 5. I tried 6 and it works.

I thought the firmware was locked to 4?

Yeah some people only have 4 physical ports...not sure how they will handle that.

Check it out: http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/7563/quua.jpg

And this just proves that my bad boards are in fact not bad - they just need the right firmware.
These 5 are: 4 good + 1 that was hashing at around 100GH/s inside my 2nd Jupiter.
So I I just moved the data cable to my 1st Jupiter and voila = it looks like it is hashing like a beast.

Cool.

limit of 200 upgrade units. so is this 28TH total? is my math right if each unot is 140 Gh/s ?
28 Th/s would be a drop in a bucket...

Agreed.  The Nov preorders will be two orders of magnitude more.  It is likely the "left overs".  They ordered so many hosts, cases, etc, used their inventory of parts to build the Sept/Oct/Nov orders and they came up with 200 extra boards.  Sell off the lot.  Why not? The value of ASICs goes down over time.  Why wait for the next batch just sell them off for less?

Having completed our first shipment. We have taken stock of remaining inventory. We now have some available to sell as the promised upgrade modules. These upgrade modules will be available for sale tomorrow on the KnCMiner site, at 2pm CET (8am EST). They are priced at $950 (USD), but exclusively for sale in Bitcoins (BTC). They are only available for sale to existing KnCMiner customers, and will only work with units from the October shipment, as board modifications make them incompatible with the November revision.

I sure hope I qualify as an existing customer.

I purchased my October Saturn from someone else, not directly from KnC.

I'm not sure how they'd manage that.  It would seem to open the door to anyone making such a claim.  I suppose we shall see.

I'm talking about my Jupiter order from Saturday now making me an existing customer.

Does Anyone knows for each miners does the upgrade apply? is it only for Saturn and Mercury? or also for Jupiter?

If you have a Jupiter also remember you will need to be creative on how you mount the heatsink since they go directly into the bottom case

perfect time to just make custom..  I already bought some extra long 10 pin cables so that's one less thing to worry about.

also, I have a 3D printer, so I don't have an excuse in cooking something up..

Of course, that this upgrade is for Saturn/Mercury - just because there is no space in Jupiter for add any new modul + majority of KNC miner owners have got only 4 connectors on control board

However, as of Saturday I have my own KnC store account with a paid order for a November Jupiter.

Naturally I now want to buy modules to fill out my October Saturn.

very rough estimate would say about 125W per module for FW 98.1 beta

So a 1000W PSU will handle it, but you would need 6 PCI outputs.  Running two PSUs is doable but watch your steps

My EVGA PSU that runs a PC and a Jupiter has 6 so I will swap that PSU out to the other Jupiter that will get the 2 extra modules. (if I'm able to order fast enough)
