Well I don't know how many of you read the original article, but it isn't like a large city where people will be able to pay for their services online through some sort of system. They said that payments will be made in a townhouse sort of building, and it will be all done fairly manually.

It's a good step in the right direction, but there isn't enough autonomy for the system to really work they way it would on a large scale, like something we would see in a real, large-scale city.

It doesn't directly affect me in a positive way but hopefully this might get some better media attention in Switzerland. Anything that can attrect more people to invest in bitcoin is a positive for us.

Yeah, hopefully they market it well to their citizens so they that there will be awareness of it. Hopefully, there will be enough people who use the bitcoin option to where it becomes a success and hopefully it catch on and lead other small towns to try/implement it.

so this, seems huge, but nobody cared to report it?

Ya know, your right. This is a bigger deal than I made it out to be when I first saw it. If this sort of thing caught on broadly then bitcoin may actually become a threat to fiat. Not just an option, but an threat.

This won't be a threat for fiat. Zug won't hold their BTC. I Think they will exchange them into CHF and will never actively use BTC.

Zug only needs positive publicity. They want to be an important player in crypto.
Particularly after the end of the "Bankgeheimnis" and now the Panama Papers.

Nevertheless it is really nice to see things like that. a few years ago this was impossible.

yes, that what i was thinking this could screw fiat for good, if it catch enough interest from the big guys, entering the public zone like that might put bitcoin on a new level of acceptance

i hope it will spread like that to other countries

Happy to see such initiative, but I doubt that BTC payments will be very popular. Probably no more than 1% of the city population actively use BTC, and likely only small part of that 1% have any income in bitcoins. If you don't earn any, it's not convenient to buy BTC just to pay with it.

But I understand the goal is to attract fintech  businesses to the city and not just to boost the income.

Still a great news.

Actually think it has been posted at least two times recently and its great news to see a open adoption of bitcoin in a aspect involving government.

Probably there ain't much Swiss lurking in the forum that's why almost nobody cared about this. Good news but this news itself won't do much good to bitcoin  yet it sets an example, so it is important.

didn't get much attention. probably because the lack of details I mentioned on that thread.
I do agree that it is a good news though.
