Their best players were stolen by England, including Eoin Morgan, Boyd Rankin and Ed Joyce. Now Stuart Poynter has also retired from international cricket to continue with the country cricket teams. It may seem that the absence of one or two players may not be that damaging. But imagine an Australian side without Steve Smith and an Indian side without Virat Kohli, and you will get the idea.
Eoin Morgan! Damn! The man responsible for the first English World Cup title. England made some smart purchases. Ben Stokes was from New Zealand.

Both these men were critical parts of the World Cup winning team. If England continues acquiring such players, they will surely become a lot stronger and become a bigger challenge to teams like India and Australia in the future.

Imagine an Irish team 5-6 years back, with Morgan, Joyce and Rankin along with those who stayed loyal to Ireland (Kevin O'Brien, Dockrell, Stirling, William Porterfield.etc). They would have been one of the stronger sides outside the big 3. BTW, I won't complain much about Ben Stokes. Although he was born in NZ, he moved to England when he was 12 and it was the English domestic cricket which was responsible for his rise. Morgan played for Ireland until 2009, and he moved to England only for better opportunities.

BTW, I am watching the Netherlands vs Bermuda match right now. I can confidently say that Netherlands will be playing in the next year's world cup, as they are in a very comfortable position right now. They have made a massive 206/3 after 20 overs, with Ben Cooper, Max O'Dowd, Ryan ten Doeschate and Ackermann smashing the bowlers all around the park.

Interesting. Do you guys actually watch these matches? I knew that there the qualifiers were running, but am surprised to see several people following these matches closely. Good to see small teams like PNG and Oman receiving more attention.

I am surprised by the reversal in the Irish performance these days. This is the same team that gave stiff competition to top tier teams in the past. Time has not been kind to them.

Just finished watching the Ireland vs Nigeria match (Star Sports 3). Ireland are now on the top of Group A with 8 points from 6 matches. Oman also have 8 points, but they have one match remaining (against Jersey). Only the top side is going to directly qualify for the T20 CWC 2020, and the other teams need to play in the knock-out matches. As of now, it looks like Oman would qualify directly and Ireland needs to go through the play-offs.

Ireland is a very talented team, but they were failed by the system. Their best players were stolen by England, including Eoin Morgan, Boyd Rankin and Ed Joyce. Today is a very crucial day with the T20 World Cup Qualifiers. 6 teams out of the total 14 would be qualifying for the next year's T20 world cup and with just one more round to play, only two slots have been decided till now. As of now, Papua New Guinea and Oman have qualified (for the first phase of the next year's world cup). Four more slots remain open.

Ireland and Netherlands are almost assured of a slot, as they have matches against weak sides today (Nigeria and Netherlands). But this is T20 cricket and there is no surety of anyone winning any matches. Scotland was regarded as the no.1 ranking side in this tournament, but they have suffered several setbacks. They need to win their last match (against a strong Netherlands). Also, there is a match between UAE and Canada scheduled for tomorrow, and the winner of that match will qualify.

Yes, the Indian team is Looking balanced with senior and news comers, maybe this is the experiment to hunt the young talents for upcoming t20 world cup campaign so the young talents have to use the opportunity to get a place in upcoming t20 world cup and this t20 series will play a key role to select the t20 world cup to Indian young playas.
I think it's a good chance for Bangladesh to beat India. Although all the players are well performed, I doubt they will be able to win against Bangladesh. The Indian team is totally a new one other than Shikhar and Rohit. Bangladesh may get a very good tour this time.
Bangladesh will play with all the players, Tamim will be missed probably which I liked, lol.

Bangladesh team is also going through a lot of turmoil, and they also won't be in a good state right now. The players have threatened to go on strike at a crucial time. A series against India happens only once every two or three years and the BCB is heavily dependent on the revenues from this series. If the players conduct a strike, then their plans can get disrupted.

And looking at the Indian team, it is composed of a mix of experienced and young players. Sanju Samson recently slammed a 200 in a domestic one day match and he will be looking forward to cement his place in the Indian team as the wicket keeper batsman. There are a few others, such as Dube, Sundar, Rahul Chahar.etc being given a chance here. If they can perform, then they can get permanent positions within the senior team.

As far as I know, Dhoni, Kohli and most other senior players will not play in the Bangladesh tour. I guess team will be a combination of both young and senior, BCCI is likely to try with young players. It would be certainly good for future team.
I did not knew that they already selected the team and majority are fresh faces

Here is the Indian squad for the series

Good for Shyas Iyer and Shivam dube, excited to watch Sanju Samson, if i am not wrong he recently made 200+ runs in Vijay hajare trophy match.
Am happy that Iyer and Sanju were selected since these both have displayed how good they are recently. Am excited to see Samson behind the wicket.
I am more excited about Sanju's batting skills and hope he play as a pure batsman in this series, which means both Sanju and Pant playing in the squad. I don't mind if KL rahul sit outside whole series.  Grin

India is still searching for a replacement for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Wriddhiman Saha is 35, and I don't think that the selectors are going to consider him in the long term. The first choice is Rishabh Pant, but his recent form was not very good. And this is where the opportunity comes in for Sanju Samson. His only disadvantage is that he hails from one of the smaller state boards.
Saha is establish name in Test format but i doubt if anyone try to fit him in Shorter format. IPL is another ball game tho. i don't agree on "smaller state board" comment, We have many examples but best example is Dhoni.

@FanEagle True he deserve a farewell game.

I wont say its unfair to Dhoni but i would put it like this " Preparation for T-20 WC next year" and I strongly believe that everyone including team management wants to give Dhoni a farewell series or game. as of now management eyeing on T-20 WC that's why they are focusing on Rishab Pant and Sanju Samson (batsman who can act as keeper) as a wicket keeper batsman. who knows if they both fail then there might be some chances for Dhoni to play in T-20 WC.
So far I have heard about farewell match and this is first time I come across about "farewell series". I believe India must be preparing for a grand farewell for Mahindra Singh Dhoni. I am not sure that t20 WC is going to venue at India, because managements would prefer a home match for farewell planning up.

Dhoni deserves big farewell in my opinion too as he won for India 3 ICC titles also having impressive records with cloves and skipper. Let's wait for any big announcement from Dhoni side on his retirements before making so many assumptions on his farewell and all other related things.

The latest news from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 is that Oman has qualified for the 2020 World Cup. They have got 8 points, and even if they lose the next match (against a weak Jersey side), they would still qualify for the 2020 T20 CWC. Ireland also looks all set to qualify, provided that they can defeat Nigeria tomorrow (Nigeria is yet to win a match so far).

There is a lot of time for T20 WC to happen and lot of opportunities for youngsters to make their destiny on their own. Its competition for the T20 WC squad and will be exciting to see which one will prove himself.
Since they are facing Bangladesh resting the top players and giving opportunity to youngsters is the way to go as we need give more opportunities to youngsters in the team and if they are proving themselves to handle their own in the international stage then the bench strength will increase, India already have a good team but they need to have more explosive batsmen in the team.

really proud to see that these boys are getting opportunity to showcase their talents and represent the country or play in the IPL Kiss.

Well its good to develop youngsters as well from time to time. IPL is a good platform but international matches are on a whole different level and I love to see that management is giving opportunities to such youngsters.

On a personal note i am really happy to see Sanju Samson in the team and i am hoping to see Sandeep Warrier too playing for the nation one day as these are my boys and i know Sandeep Warrier from his small age as he was my relatives neighbor while his father was a banker and got posted in Mumbai when he was a small kid, really proud to see that these boys are getting opportunity to showcase their talents and represent the country or play in the IPL Kiss.

I guess you are from Kerala. While I agree that Sanju Samson is one of the future stars for India, I am not that optimistic about Sandeep Warrier. He is a good bowler, but he doesn't have the pace that is needed at the international level. He is more of a medium pace bowler, with limited attack variety. I watched him playing in the Duleep Trophy. He looked quite ordinary.

Also, you need to remember that there is a lot of competition for the pace bowling slots now. Two of the slots are fixed (Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami). Ishant is currently the third choice pacer, with Umesh giving tough competition to him. Then there are other bowlers such as Jaydev Unadkat, Avesh Khan, Ankit Rajpoot, Ishan Porel, Basil Thampi and Varun Aaron playing for the B team.

Yes in that match Sanju Samson smashed a double century and Sachin Baby gave him a good support scoring a century of his own.

Watched the Namibia vs Kenya T20 match today (T20 World Cup Qualifier). There was some terrific hitting by the Namibian batsmen, who amassed more than 70 runs during the last 5 overs (many thanks to Star Sports 3 for showing the matches in India). Now Namibia is having a very good chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, with 6 points from 5 matches. However, even now the situation is not clear. Almost all the teams still have a chance of qualifying with one match each remaining.

My guess is that Dhoni himself might have told the management to continue experimenting with the youngsters and he might return in the future against stronger teams. He will most likely retire after the T-20 World Cup in 2020 in my opinion.
There is no clarity reading this and i highly doubt that Dhoni will request the management to continue with the experiment and then the selectors will come out and say something else, if there was an intention like that from Dhoni the selectors will tell that rather than giving other excuses
You are underestimating the influence that high level players like Dhoni have over team management and the board itself. If he wanted to retire quickly, he would have done so after the World Cup itself. He will return in the near future in my opinion.

I personally would like to see Dhoni in the world cup squad as he is the best T20 captain and his track record is the proof.
