Only 2 broadcasters showed up for the bidding war and their 2 bids were 97 cr and 950 cr. This whole bidding process lasted for a maximum of 5 minutes. If there were more broadcasters lining up for media rights then the price could have been bigger.
LOL.. 97 crore for 5 years? That is less than 20 crores per year and is an insult to the Indian women's team. I am thankful to Reliance and Viacom18 for making this decent bid. I guess the second bid was from Disney Star-Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited combined. They probably planned something similar to what happened during the ICC media rights auctions, in which Disney took the streaming rights and Zee took the TV rights. But this time they underestimated the market. And now it will be interesting to see how much money the BCCI will make by selling the 5 franchises (auction will take place on 25th January). The share from media rights to each of the franchise is estimated at somewhere between ₹25 crore and ₹30 crore and therefore the auction price will be higher than this amount.
