I think many android devices actually mine, but without knowledge of their owners - botnets
There's no known Android mining botnet that is operational. But if there is, you most likely can't get it on your device provided that you use trusted sources for apps such as Google Play. Unless you download some app that manages to slip through Google's checks. There was a botnet with over 300 Play Store apps that was taken down in August.

And to answer OPs question, there probably are some mining apps for android that are legit. You will kill your device and NEVER make anything by using them.

Your friend is probably mining with the new Electroneum app? If yes, then I guess it is legit. What is unclear is whether it is profitable or not.
Heard the App is available on Google Playstore. You should try mining with it and tell us how legit and profitable it is?

you are in the bitcoin mining subforum, so i'll give a bitcoin mining answer: No, you cannot mine bitcoin with a tablet

Here's proof: https://www.mocacinno.com/nonspecialisedmininghardware.php
The cortex'es, allwinner's and atoms are cpu's that are commonly used in tablets... If you look at the yearly revenue, you'll see that even with an eletricity price of 5 cents/kwh, you'll lose more money in power bills than you'll ever make while mining... Let alone the fact that you can break your hardware

There are some altcoins that can be mined using a cpu/gpu, but even then, i don't think it's a wise idear to mine them on your tablet... I don't think a tablet has an efficient way of dealing with the heat that comes from a 100% cpu load over a prolonged time. In other words, even if you try to mine a coin like monero, you're probably much better off mining it on a recent desktop than mining it on a laptop, and certainly better off than using a tablet.

Thank you so much for that clear information.
