Users Donate Upwards of $50,000 to BitcoinTalk

Charity crowdfunding project Bithope.org is running a campaign to raise funds for development of BitcoinTalk, the first bitcoin-related forum founded by Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

For many, BitcoinTalk is where the Bitcoin community is. It is a website meant to host free discussion of Bitcoin and related topics. It is operated as a service to the community, and all profit is reinvested into the forum and the community.

Recently, BitcoinTalk admins, Michael Marquardt aka Theymos, Martti Malmi aka Sirius, and Stefan Thomas aka justmoon have announced a fundraising campaign.

The campaign is running at www.Bithope.org. The funds raised will go to the development and maintenance of the website. Currently, the raised amount comprises 87.5434 BTC, which is over $53,000 at the current Bitcoin market price.

Escrow requires trust in the arbitrator.
Reputation is valuable in basically all human interaction. Airbnb, couchsurfing and Uber are practical examples of the power of reputation systems.

I emailed support to ask them why ABY is to be delisted on Poloniex. This was their answer:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Poloniex <[email protected]>
10:52 am (3 days ago)

Hi Mike Cabaniss,

We list and delist coins for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, there are no specific criteria for doing so.

Best regards,
Joshua Anders
Poloniex Support
----------------------------------------------------------------

This obviously tells me nothing, so I emailed Tristan D'agosta, who is the founder of Poloniex and have not heard from him yet. This is all very bizarre, I have known Tristan for two years and he is also an artist.

I ask all trader's of ArtByte to email Tristan at [email protected] & [email protected] and let him know that you would like ArtByte to stay listed.

is NXT pos?  i always think of it as something different
have checked this tool?
https://mynxt.info/forging_calculator.php
you need a lot more nxt to forge.

10000 NXT @ $0.02 that's $200 invested in NXT capital

You would forge 7.839 NXT
using 10,000 NXT forging for 71 days.

$0.08 / month

100000 NXT [that's $2000]
79.8 NXT = $1.60 / 71 days

1 million NXT [that's $20000]
798 NXT = $16.00 / 71 days

@kiklo

the BTC market cap share will be a slow(er) drain off
the BTC trade volume share is currently popping ... going under 60% already ... http://coincap.io/

once BTC is traded less than the Alts ... that will cause some fireworks

also BTC had a long Bear, this summer it had a bull run, lots of speculation regarding the halving, now it has topped off, and has to test bottom ... likely will settle in the $450 range for the next 2 years, THUS ... many will turn to the alts.

Quote
cartel of probably < 10 Chinese businessmen (mining, ASIIs)...
https://btc.com/stats/pool

looks like only 8 pools that get any substantial BTC rewards;
and the major pools and ASIIs makers are one and the same

It is not something that will happen overnight.
The decline in bitcoin's market share, though,is pretty much linear(albeit choppy)

source: coinmarketcap

Now down to 80% share, Bitcoin's demise is almost a certainty:

(1) BTC is controlled by a cartel of probably < 10 Chinese businessmen (mining, ASIIs)...
The Chinese government could take out Bitcoin in 24 hours and no one would care...
The way the Hong Kong authorities allowed Bitfinex to swindle it's Customers tells you a lot.

(2) The 2016 block time standard is Graphene's 3 seconds (BTS, STEEM, others)...
This is very close to "real-time" processing required to do anything interesting on the web...
Frankly, I totally dread firing up Bitcoin and dealing with 10 minute blocks and $2.00 fees

(3) BTC is worth less than it was 3 years ago, that's a pathetic fact...
In tech, once something stops growing exponentially it's pretty much game over.

(4) Bitcoin has failed to go mainstream and is not even "hip" anymore.

(5) Bitcoin's organized culture of hate/greed which was totally exposed during ETH's recent troubles...
Is clearly holding back the advance of crypto in general (even more than the herd of scam artists here).

The crypto space is very dynamic and there will be big surprises in the next 2 years...
The opinions and polls here always support the status quo and have been dead wrong year after year.

personal opinion:  [but well researched]

POS maybe the best coin for the common man.
They maybe small cap markets, but all it takes to maintain a stable network is a few dozen strong hands.

TALK is determinedly focused on the discovery of which POS coins are flourishing and have solid communities.

POS tech maybe the most underrated toolkit in the cryptosystem, and some what shady 'master node' or 'delegate'  systems have been utilized by many ICO projects, and in reality they are just a version of the POS concept.

did DMD fork again?

I don't think so , but there is one thing weird,
their reactor address has been offline for a week.  Tongue
Rank   Address                    Amount       Percent of coins   Last Change
1       dXy7o5vd...Reactor    94,923.1 DMD   5.46 %           7 days 7 hours

FYI2:
No one may have noticed it, but there is a direct financial incentive to DDOS the other CBX wallets when you stake.
If you read their whitepaper, you will notice the interest rate increases when the amount of coins staking decreases,
currently ~250,000 coin staking, meaning the interest is between 7% & 10%.
If Someone Staking was able to DDOS a few of the other wallets and decrease the amount staking to only 100,000 coin,
then the interest rate for anyone still online is 20% instead of below 10%.
So you have a direct financial incentive to DDOS the other wallets.   Tongue
PoSP, has a Built in Backstabbing Incentive.

to PoS or to PoSP
Lots of people say it, but few examine it.

Any PoS or PoSP coin that allows coins to stake less than 5 days will favor the whales, since they can stake pretty much all of the time and keep smaller blocks from staking.
Coins that only allow you to stake every 15 or more days, decrease the Whales ability to use Compound Interest to their advantage which gives people with smaller amounts a chance to stake. So the shorter the time frame the more Compound interest you can earn and the Larger the Whales become.
Sprouts is a Good example , a high interest 60% per month coin able to stake every 5 days , however the whales are staking so much , that even if you have a million coins all in one block it will be ~20 days before you can stake, people with less than a 100,000 per block will find it almost impossible to stake.

 Cool

Here is CBX Whitepaper , if you want to study it.

Get one of those 10 dollars a year servers if there is a particular coin you want to stake. Compile the Linux daemon, send your coins there. There are a couple of security steps to employ, which are very simple, but then you are good to go with 24 hours a day staking.

NB: Back up the wallet to your HDD (or wherever) in case cheapo server goes bust.

anyone know of a fairly reliable $1/mo server?

old school list
Good initiative, but you should highlight the "founders" of each category and add the "100%-PoS" coins.

So it would look like this:

PoS/PoW hybrid coins (PPC descendants):

SHA-256:
Peercoin
Deutsche eMark
....

Scrypt:
Novacoin
Tagcoin
...

Scrypt-N:
Yacoin
Ybcoin
...

Pure PoS coins:
Nxt
....

etc.
