Interesting events going on French Open today. World number one and the defending champion Novak Djokovich is struggling against Number 30 Lorenzo Musetti. They both have 1 set each and Musetti is looking to win the third. This could be either a surprise defeat for Novak Djokovich or a long match.
On another match today, Casper Ruud reached the third round defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a 4 set contest. No 6 Andrey Rublev was defeated by No 35 Matteo Arnaldi while Daniil Medvedev is into the third round. Jannik Sinner had a straight set win against P Kotov to reach the round of 16.
After watching today many of the higher ranking players were struggling in their matches.
Zverev dropped his first set and took it in five sets, so an early scare for the number 4.
Cerundolo taking out Paul who is number 14 out of the tournament.

Djokovic is just finishing his fourth set so it is even at two all. But it didn't look so good an hour ago and his odds were very high for the top player in the ATP tour.
Many were saying on the sportschat that I was on that Novak was dead and it was over.
But being the number 1 in the world he has been here many times, so knows how to comeback from the dead as he has several times before.

I think possibly the 5 set matches suit him more now, we have seen on numerous
occasions that he can drop the first 2 sets and still win the match. But things are different
now, more of the top 10 players can beat him.

And Zverev OMG I really thought he was a gonner, Griekspoor did well but didnt
have the experience to finish it in the 5th set perhaps.

Djokovic made another legendary comeback. I saw this match by chance after watching the CL final game and I couldn't believe it was live at this hour. Musetti played well but experience spoke for itself. The GOAT Djokovic is here to win another Grand Slam. He spent a lot of energy today but if he regenerates well he will go all the way. I don't think he will have such a hard time to beat Cerúndolo. Alcaraz and Sinner will be the most difficult opponents for him, if he doesn't face them, his chances will be even better.

I think there are a few players who will be in his way TBH, on his side of the draw
its Ruud, Zverev and Medvedev, on the other its Sinner, Alcaraz.

like a game of chess, the Russian Medvedev was able to win in the most delicate moment of the match, managing to take advantage of two "easy" errors made by Machac.
it was certainly a good match for both players...the final result is not as obvious as it might seem, in the third set Medvedev only scored 1 point... I think he has the chance for a progression in this tournament, he likes this surface and has enough experience for a great result.

Wow, would have been very nice winnings.

Corentin I think is one of those players who performs best at home on French soil...and
with the rowdy French fans. I think the organisers have banned alcohol for the tournament
on the stands.

Two interesting matches on ATM, Machac v Medvedev, I think Machac has a real chance
here even after losing the first set tie break.

Zverev v Griekspoor, Zverev looks subdued and Griekspoor has taken the first set, really
difficult to know how this goes, a possible over 41.5 on here @ 1.85

Ofner was very bad in the 4th set. But I knew that he was going to react to that not to be bagel. I know that it looks like a big risk considering the amount I bet but the winnings were really satisfying.  Grin

French supporters for Roland Garros are extra bad this year. They don't have any respect to the game. They are continually making noise which isn't a good attitude at all.

Sinner has just won against Kotov. 6-4 6-4 6-4
Each set was practically the same, one break and Sinner won. Kotov was pretty upset during the match... the difference between the two players was evident even without a strong score by Sinner.
Odds were very low for the whole match even for single point/set. There is no space for surprise here...

@Iranus
I think that Rune is an atypical player since he can always fight also when it seems there are no hope.
I will not point to much on tired body since he is really young and able to recover very quickly.
But of course his match are interesting due the high odds vs the normal that you will have on his game...

Rune was able to win the tie break in final set even with Cobolli in great shape and with a nice advantage.
Odds were in favour of Rune, @1.45, for sure he made a lot of effort to reach the win.

Probably in a match like this, the better experience of the Danish player was the sparkle for the victory.
Cobolli played very well but wasn't able to close out at the decisive moment.

You know, on paper, Rune is definitely a better player. I actually did not think that Rune was going to face such problems against Cobolli. . Of course, every prediction was going to be in favor of Rune in that match. But the way he had to win the match was definitely unexpected.

In the next match, he is going to play against Kovalik on clay surfaces. Actually, on paper this match also looks to be very easy for Rune. But we saw what happened in the last match. Who says nothing like that is going to happen in the next match? Meanwhile, I am also thinking about if Rune actually got enough rest. He had to go through a lot in the last match.  that’s why he might struggle in the next match as well. Tired body like that needs more than two days to properly recover in my opinion.

Kovalik vs Rune winning rate:

Ah it was so close for Cobolli, he's been playing great tennis lately while Rune hasnt
been in top form at all.

Musetti did well to beat Monfils in straight sets but books a date with Djokovic
tomorrow as a reward!

Keeping this an all Italian post 😁 Sinner is back in action and faces Kotov, there shouldnt
be any worries for Jannik today.

The loss of record highest title winner of French Open, Rafael Nadal and another great player Andy Murray on the firs round was sad but not surprising. These old players should now retire like how Roger Federer did with much more dignity.
Today was ought to be a great day for 2nd round of Men's single in French Open but the rainfall in Paris suspended most of the matches. Angry fans got their tickets returned. The only match that's going on is Andrey Rublev vs Pedro Martínez where Rublev already have a two set advantage and would likely win on straight sets.
There's another match going on in women's single where defending champion Iga Swiatek is playing against Naomi Osaka. Osaka once an Australia open winner looks no match for Iga who is on a rampage of titles.
That is why almost all the earlier matches were showing as incomplete until the later matches were done.
What to expect from the French Open in May but rain to back up matches and delay things.
Typical where life moves slow in the city of lights. But they finally have moved on with the rounds for today.

There's another match going on in women's single where defending champion Iga Swiatek is playing against Naomi Osaka. Osaka once an Australia open winner looks no match for Iga who is on a rampage of titles.

Naomi was very much a match for Iga today. She is coming back after a 15 month break
and "almost" won the match, she was serving for the natch in the 3rd set when Iga broke her
and went on to win the following 3 games in a row.

Naomi said after the match that she was happy overall with the performance against the
world number 1 on her favourite surface and mentioned she would like to play her on a
hard court which is Naomi's favourite..

More from the womens side eventhough there are a lot of match suspensions

Gauff and Jabeur are also through to the third round.
Very surprised with Osaka because in the last set it was looking like a win going up 5-3.
I remember looking at the odds and Swiatek balloned up to 7.00x
If I had any remaining balance on my betting account I would of threw on a couple tens because we have all seen Iga do this before late into these tournaments.
She is not No.1 for a reason other than to make things difficult for her opponents on her own terms.

just over match between Sinner and Gasquet.
the french player was not bad at all in the first and third set showing nice tennis.
Sinner seems in a good shape after missing Roma Internazionali. There are good chance for him, anyway after this tournament he can also reach the 1st place in ATP.

@aoluain
nice parlays, it seems something funny.
during these big tournaments, players in top ranking are always trying to avoid a defeat in firsts matches... but of course odds are reflecting it Sad

Yea, Sinner is going well, the more rounds he can survive the fitter he will become and obviously
the chances grow of him winning the title.
My two under bets ended up 50/50, one win, one loss.

Alcaraz didnt have it all his own way and dropped a set against de Jong, I'mnot sure if it was the case
with Alcaraz in the match but before hand while I was making the bet I had it in the back of my head
that he can have off times in a lot of matches which allows his opponent to come back into it, but
I went ahead with the match thinking de Jong is a relatively unknown player . . .

Alcaraz winner under 27.5 - 1.82
Sinner winner under 30.5 - 1.81

Keeping it Italian, its busy today . . .
Darderi v Griekspoor
Fognini v Paul
Kokkinakis v Zeppeiri
Coboli v Rune - This is an interesting one, Rune has showed he is very beatable in the last few weeks
Monfils v Musetti

Second round up and running today and I have decided that I'm going to try a different
bet today for a bit of fun ....

I'm doing a 6 way parlay on some favourites with total odds of 1.8. I dont normally do this
in Tennis but its just for fun with $5.

Felix AA @ 1.07 v Squire
Alcaraz @ 1.01 v de Jong
Rublev @ 1.13 v Martinez
Sinner @ 1.01 v Gasquet
Medvedev @ 1.27 v Kecmanovic
Paul @ 1.15 v Fognini

Also two single bets on Alcaraz and Sinner

Alcaraz winner under 27.5 - 1.82
Sinner winner under 30.5 - 1.81

Yuan vs Sherif
Sherif has finally recovered from injuries and proved that he will be a contender at the French Open with a final in Morocco. Yuan, on the other hand, is a player who doesn't do well on clay courts and he came here on a four match losing streak. Sherif is in the conditions he likes and that's why I see Sherif as the side that is close to winning.

Putintseva vs Stephens
One of the closest matchups of the third day. Stephens struggled to adapt to the clay court ahead of Roland Garros, losing match after match. This gives Putintseva a step up, but Stephens is a former finalist here and can play differently in a grand slam atmosphere and take the match to a different level.

Fantastic first round at the French Open tomorrow
Zverev vs Nadal might be expected to be the best first match at this GS, but I don't see Nadal being able to play up to 5 sets, and also Zverev who is in his best form after winning the Italian Masters looks difficult for Nadal to beat in 3 straight sets, but we can still expect world class play in this match and my prediction is that Zverev wins 3-0 or 3-1.

Djokovic lost to Thomas Machac at the Geneva Open, he still hasn't shown his best performance but his competitors at the French Open still have to be wary of him possibly bouncing back in this GS, especially since he hasn't won a single title and there are 2000 points he has to defend to remain number one in the world.

Sinner and Alcaraz are certain to play so the competition will be very tight to become the French Open champion this time.
It took only 3 sets and Nadal got blanked going 3-0 to the younger Zverev and this showed in the way he was on the court.
He didn't have that same spark you get from watch a Rafa match and I think that was his last swan song of his career.
Just from the way he was talking during the post match interview about how is will be 38 year old the next time he comes to this court at Roland Garros.
Quite an emotional match for him and there were many fans watching him thinking this could be his last match at this tournament in Paris.

OMG - another year Rafa, can he not realise he will be a year older, just a tad slower and
maybe just a tad weaker while the younger ones at the top of the game are getting stronger,
faster and developing their shots into something more powerful.

No more than Andy it will become a bit pathetic. The level of Tennis will be kind of Challenger
level, there he would win tournaments!

On the womens side its business as usual for the top seeds , except Sakkari who lost
to Gracheva over 3 sets. A French unknown to me anyway, probably a wild card entrant?

Also one of my favourite players Osaka is in the second round with a very unlucky
draw against Swiatek! there is a very slight chance it will be very interesting but it might
be a bit too early in Naomi's comeback?
