They are playing very slowly today as Burns got out and now already 20 overs are done and they are at just 54 runs for 1. 3.5 RR is still not enough. Losing hope of England winning but I hope they don't lose by 100-200 runs. Hope they are looking for a draw at this stage. 4 runs per over would atleast keep the board ticking.
Never take Australia too easily. They can change situation in any moment. You will see the 80% chances for England to draw the match before tea break but after tea break before few overs of the end of the day, you will see Australia took the last wicket. I mean I am confident about Australia to win this match.

F**k umpires.

@Royse : Best dreams lol
Yeah correct. There are no point to post such things without any clue. It was obvious case to delete.

The umpires are giving so many bad decisions and especially of Wilson. They should replace him now.

The love affair of Bad Umpiring still in progress, they must have been given approx 10-15 bad decision so far. I have a feeling that Roy and Root are going for century today.  Grin Anyone betting on them / any word on odds?

May be Lyon can make difference for Aussie today.

Australia is ahead thanks to Burns getting out. If they manage to get Root and Roy, its probably game over for England. I doubt the middle order can help chase down such a big total in such a short span of time.
Well this test, the worse can be for Australia is England will bat the whole day or the rain will interrupt and we will see a draw. If that not happen then I am seeing a win for Australia. Till now England is in positive mood but if they lose few wickets then they will take the defensive strategy to spend the whole day.

Smith is the man. After losing 8 wickets in the first innings, no one thought that Australia was going to win this test.

If Root and Roy form a big partnership here, things could get interesting. Lyon could be the biggest problem for them currently when compared to other bowlers.

I still felt 300-350 was a good score to defend as they know that England don't even have enough time as mostly they bowl 80-90 overs and they have chances of picking up wickets too so 398 is far from achieving in one day when Australia themselves took 1.5 days to get those runs. A win looks tough if Aussies don't pick up wickets so most likely a draw will be the result. This happened earlier too when one team kept playing till the second last day and put up 400+ runs and the match ended in a draw. Because of such decisions these test matches get boring.

If you look at first inning of both teams, then you will notice how slowly they made the runs. The run rate was around 2.75 and 3,75 per over. But during second inning Australians were moving scoreboard quickly, and they end up with a healthy run rate of 4.34 per over. It tells us one thing that as match proceed pitch became easy for the batsmen. So OZ camp went for an easy solution about putting enough run on board so that they can not lose the match and then try to get opponent wickets as England need to maintain more than 4 run average if they want to win this test match.

PS : In test match always compare inning with overs-sessions.

Australia did not want to take any risk and Steven Smith is back in prime form which is a promising sign for Australia and they know they do not have the bowling pedigree to declare earlier and put England under pressure, this match will be a draw until the pitch starts behaving oddly on the final day, the first 2 hours on the final day will determine how the match will go as England will look to defend as scoring 398 runs is an impossible task.

Double centuries and huge partnerships are the only way that they can win this or call it a draw. Beauty of test matches where results swing wildly back and forth. Lets see how it plays out.
To score 398 runs on a single day and that too on the final day of a test match is an impossible task, even if you put together the best batsmen in the world you will never score those runs on the final day, it is a sure shot draw and Australia played really well especially Smith back in the team and in prime form was a real surprise as he is playing a test match after a very long time. If Australia could pick wickets then England will have a huge task to defend the match and it will be an interesting first few hours.

I think you meant Australia. Anyway, I agree with your point that the first couple of hours will decide the outcome of this game basically. The odds are stacked in Australia's favor currently and England has a huge task up ahead.

Have Fun )@@( Stay Safe

Looks like they want to got for 400+. Either Aus will win or it will be a draw as no chance that England will manage to chase 400 runs tomorrow even if 90 overs are bowled. Sad when teams are so ambitious.

Great fight back by Australia and once again Smith is the man that has helped Australia take control of the match along with a nice century by Wade. I had my doubts about Wade being selected but now I see why as he can pull off these types of innings with the bat. Now it will be interesting to see if Australia can get the win, I really think that if Strac was playing he could be the one to get the quick break through but now its up to Siddle, Pattinson and Cummins or maybe Lyon could be the man on the last day. Its going to be an interesting end to the match and it will be interesting to see what the selectors do for the second test match as Warner hasn't performed in this first test so will they bring Finch in to replace Warner.

They finally declared the innings. 397 runs lead means England will be needing 398 runs to win the test. Australia is driving the vehicle now without any doubt.

I think it's better Australia declare the innings and try to get some wickets today. They will have the chance to win the match, otherwise, no more time will be left unless England batting collapse. Don't know what Australia isblooking for, a draw?

What a great come back by Australia. Wade has got the century as well. They can declare the innings after 350 to get a chance of winning, otherwise, the match will be drawn.

Why is Australia not declaring now? 300+ is a good score to defend and only one day is left for the series and toady just 2-3 hours left of play. Looks like a draw is sure for them as they don't plan in getting a result. Unless if England lose all their wickets before tomorrow afternoon which won't be the case.

Smith replaced by Wade who crossed runs 100. Sad Smith couldn't make it to 150 :-(

Smith consecutive century has helped OZ to post a big score on the board and they are leading now by 296 runs and still left 5 wickets in hand. Wade is playing on 100 and easily they can take 450 lead and this means England can either draw the match or lose the match now as I think so.

I do not think they will go for 450 runs lead. Once they will have 350ish runs lead then I think that will be enough for Australia to defend. They will diclare the innings.

Bottom line is that Australia will not want this match to be a draw. They will try to win so they will attack hard.

^ Tea break.

Smith was out at 331 runs (with his personal 142, very good knock from him. Two century in a test.) but Wade is doing the job. Paine needs to keep him companion. Since there are already 269 runs lead already on board I am assuming Australia will go aggressive after the tea break. They may play more 15 to 20 overs and will look to score more 100 runs from it. They will defiantly ask England to bat for the last 10 overs of the day.

^ Smith is the man.
All credits goes to him, saved the 1st innings and now this. This was without a great match for him. Back to back centuries 144, 142. I think he is one of the greatest batsman Australia ever had. I still remember he was a all rounder when he first started to play but now he turned into a great batsman.
