The sudden Indian batting collapse surprised me. Pant was playing well after a long time, but no one could support him properly. The South African bowlers were on fire and they deserve a lot of praise for putting India on the backfoot.

India still has a decent chance at winning this test as long as they remove the in-form SA batsmen quickly. I wouldn't count them out just yet.
I think this is a lost affair now for India, SA just need 98 runs and they have full day, they can bat very defensively without taking any sort of risk and could easily score the remaining runs, early-stage wickets were the only thing that could save india but they didn't happen, india would definitely be looking at a radical change in their batting line up post this series.
India can only win if Indian bowlers can bowl them out, which I doubt is possible now. If Panth had not scored his hundred then South Africa could have won the match yesterday itself. The team management needs to remove Pujara, he has been consistently giving his best of 9 runs in every match. There are plenty others who can perform better than him.
Although Panth reached 100 so quickly, if he hadn't done so, India was likely to lose its match yesterday. While other Indian batters should have scored more runs and concentrated less on showing frustration on the field, they should have focused more on the batting. A number of players have been out of form for quite a long time, so things need to be taken seriously. SA needs 111 more runs to win, with 8 wickets remaining. I see a clear victory for SA.

Not just Pujara, but Rahane as well. I still don't understand why these two are in the team. Pujara has a test batting average of 20.37 for the year 2020, and 28.08 for 2021. And so far in 2022, he averages just 27.00. Rahane is even worse. His average for 2021 is just 20.82, and so far in 2022, he has an average of 17.00 (68 runs in 4 innings). His overall test batting average stands at 38.52, which is at least 7-8 runs lower than the minimum threshold in my opinion. There is no reason why he should be preferred over Shreyas Iyer.
Upon the outcome of the match we can expect farewell for both the players. Scoring 111 runs with 8 wickets in hand isn't a big deal for South Africa in its home ground. In the first innings South Africa was restricted within 201 runs. This time South Africa have started a well planned slow and steady game. Possibly this will keep the winning probability stable as Indian players will be down with high winning pressure which lowers the performance.

Ah well bhai i know you're T-20 lover and inclined towards result oriented tests but sometimes you're way too biased.
Valid points. Draws in tests are understandable if both teams still have great chances at winning the match. I do prefer T-20 format over other formats and I hate it when tests end as a draw when the result is obvious.

This is why I appreciate systems like the D/L system which provide a proper conclusion to a Cricket match irrespective of other factors.
IMO Batters grinding all day long and drawing the test in tough conditions is one of the beautiful aspect of test cricket. That's why India-England's draw at Sydney and Kiwi's draw at Kanpur were beautiful to watch (In my recent memory). Tbh I have no idea how D/L system works but having said that, i think there should be a provision that better team must get some extra points in case of draw, not perfect solution but could work as far as WTC goes.

SA vs IND

I think we messed up lol Winning series in SA seems tough task now. Fingers crossed for today  Grin

This is what i thought in the second Test match but South Africa was able to win the match easily and even the third Test is going in that route. If the fast bowlers are able to pick wickets in the first session, then we might see an interesting match up but i doubt we will see any magical bowling performance from India as they only need 111 more runs to win the match and the series which is not a hard task considering they still have 8 wickets in hand.

Rishab Pant scored100 (not out), India (10)scoored 98. We do not expect such bad batting from the Indian team. With the exception of Kohli and Pant, no batsman has been able to handle 40 balls. We have been watching such performances of the Indian team for a long time. Kohli was not in form, after watching Kohli's performance in the first innings, many expected him to play better in the second innings. But he scored only 29 runs. Yet he is the second-highest scorer in the innings. However, South Africa is battling for 212 runs. Hopefully South Africa will win.
212 targets is never been good after losing second test with same target it's really poor display of play from Indian top class batting line-up specially in second inning where all teams gone out under 198 which is matter of shame in presence of Kohli, Rahul, Pujara and Rahane with just Pant is doing 100* and all others team just 98 mean now we will have some good changes in coming home series with some senior members going out of team. This test and series is already out of Indian hands and very bad because South African were very bad in batting and India have very good chance for winning first test series on South African soil, but they completely fail today after end of third day's play South Africa is 101/2 with last ball wicket for Bumrah of Elgar, but KP is still on crease with 48* and few good batsmen to follow for remaining target of 111 which is not far away from their reach for win of this series and match.

The main problem of the Indian team is that none of their batsmen are in form now. This is the third Test match of the series. There is no batsman who has played well in all three matches. After batting poorly in the first innings, we thought India would collect more than 250 runs in this innings. To the disappointment of all the fans, India lost all their wickets for just 198 runs.
India has given a target of only 212 runs. That's not enough to win. If each of their bowlers can bowl destructively tomorrow then India will win. However, India's chances of victory are very low.

In Search of Incredible
Something miracle needs to happen with Indian cricket team, because every pitch used to change its behaviour when the second innings starts. If something like that happens supportive to home ground automatically this match will go into the hands of South Africa.
Probably we are going to see the repetition of second test match. The target is only 212 runs and South Africa has scored 101 runs by losing two wickets only. I think they will win the match with at least 5 wickets in hand. The betting odds is in favour of South Africa now, but it was in favour of India yesterday. I'm not expecting any collapse in the Proteas batting lineup.

Lol. I had a lot of fun watching the Indian team batting. I would say only Virat Kohli has played like a Test batsmen. And Pant thought it was an ODI match. His strike rate is up to 70+. All the other batsmen thought this match was T20. They got down to batting and quickly returned to the dressing room. All in all, it's terrible batting.
South Africa have already scored 101 runs. South Africa lost only 2 wickets. All you need to win is 111 runs. However, I would not say that South Africa will win this match easily. Tomorrow morning, the Indian bowlers will be able to pick up a few wickets quickly, the match will be under India's control.

At this moment, i will not call Indian favorites because if they again played poor in the second innings, this can give south Africa another chance to come back in the match.

The outcome of the match will depend on India's batting in the 2nd innings. If India can collect more than 300, they will definitely win. Because we've seen batsmen have a lot of trouble to collecting runs on this pitch. South Africa managed to collect only 210 runs. India have already lost 2 wickets for 57 runs. Pujara and Kohli are at the crease. The next day the two of them have to be at the crease at least for the first session if they want to win the match. Because no batsman in India can be relied on now. Because the performance of all batsmen is now irregular.

As i have predicted it correctly, India did not bat well in the 2nd innings and is struggling at 189 runs with 9 wickets down. It seems that South Africa will get a total under 230, which is chase able if they bat sensibly. However, there will be a lot of pressure on the South Africa team and Jasprit Bumrah may bowl another match winning spell. However, Pant is single handly batted through the innings and is very near to score 100 runs when all other batsmen failed to score any run.

250 plus will not be an easy target for South Africa. I am not sure how long Pujara will stay in the pitch but hoping Kohli to stay their longer. Still a lot of batting left and I think they will easily add 200 more runs to the existing lead of 70 runs.

Maybe 250 runs will be enough to win if the Indian bowler performs well like in the first innings. But India will not be able to stay in the safe zone by giving a target of 250 runs. The bowlers have to fight hard and the bowlers have to fulfill their responsibilities well. But if they can deliver targets of more than 300, India will definitely win. It is very difficult to win by batting for 300 runs on such a pitch.

Kohli did well in the first innings, so don't think he will play well in the second innings. No Indian batsman's performance can be predicted for sure now. All batsmen have lost their consistency.

India to have a lethal bowling unit but I also think that if they want to be really 'safe', they need to surpass 250 runs. Right now they lead 116 runs with 4 wickets gone. Kohli and Pant are on the crease right now. Kohli is playing the anchor role as he scored 27 of 118 balls and Pant is playing the aggressive role as he scored 39 runs with a strike rate of about 80. Another thing to note is SA gave away 24 runs in extras including 8 no-balls, which is a lot in my opinion.

In the first session of the third day, India lost two wickets to Pujara and Rahane. India have not yet scored 100 runs. Now Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant are batting. Seeing Pant batting, I think he is playing in an ODI match. He has collected 33 runs from 38 balls. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is batting responsibly. He collected 18 runs off 101 balls. If Virat Kohli stays at the crease, India may be able to give more than 250 targets.

300 more runs? That implies 370 runs which is completely unnecessary. A target above 270 is more than enough against this South African side which is clearly over-dependent on certain batsmen like Petersen, Bavuma etc.

A target of 250 is more than enough. Surprised with you mentioning Peterson and Bavuma. I consider them as the weakest part of the South African batting lineup. For South Africa, if their top batsmen such as Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen fail to perform in the second innings, then the chances of a win becomes close to zero. Keegan Petersen have been exceptional so far in this series despite his lack of experience. But I don't think that I can say the same about Temba Bavuma. He has played a few useful knocks. But that's all.

India are in full control of the match currently. If they manage to post a total close to 270 or higher, I feel South Africa is screwed unless they somehow manage to survive Bumrah, Shami, Thakur etc.

Excited to see the end to this test series between both these teams.

More 300 runs will increase the chance of winning, if not this will increase the winning chance for South Africa.
