Which 10 Altcoins are the oldest?
Currently I can think of Litecoin (2011), Namecoin(2011), Peercoin (2012),  Ripple (2013), GridCoin (2013) and Dogecoin (2013).
All of them are active till now.  Smiley
Some more can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cryptocurrencies
Yeah, I wanted to write about this list.
It is quite surprising that the age doesn't matter a lot. Litecoin, doge and maybe ripple still mean something, whereas the 3 others don't. And ethereum was released later and yet it doesn't make the coin worse. I think that age matters in certain aspects. For instance, a brand new coin has to exist for about a year to prove that it is okay. But I don't think that it is important whether a coin is 2 or 4 years old.

Thats funny, because to me, the first 5 on the list mean something.  Doge, not so much

Namecoin still used for .bit web addresses.  Created to allow for Censorship resistant web addresses.  Independent of ICANN
Peercoin - The first PoS/PoW coin.  Developed by Sunny King.
Gridcoin - Also Curecoin - Both coins used to payout for using Computation power for hashing on the BOINC and @home networks, allowing you to get paid for assisting in finding cures for Cancer, searching for Aliens (SETI) ect.
Ripple - New concept at least, not one that I got into, but at least it wasn't just another fork.
Dogecoin - Was just a joke, that never went away.  Other that that no redeeming quality.  Maybe first coin to feature a Meme as it's logo??  If that can be deemed as something?

Lol, Dogecoin is not an old coin.  Its was made during what I call the end of the first big wave of people creating piles of different alt coins.  There were even people/scripts creating coins for people for about $50 before that.  There were probably 100+ coins around when Doge finally came out.  Along with my old favorite BottleCAPs.   LMAO  Vlad was probably even on his 2nd or 3rd coin before Doge.

Some coins like FTC and Terracoin were already 51% attacked before Doge was even a gleam in some puppy's eye.

You guys are a funny bunch
Here is correct timeline of everything before 2013 the bold have survived. The last dead, BBQCoin (BQC) in January 2017

Thank you. Yours seems to be the most useful post on this topic.

However I was going through that list and Universal_Bitcoin doesn't seem to be another coin. The linked thread suggests it to be the original BTC. Am I missing something?

Looks your right, taken out.
Its hard to know to what development stage some of the early projects went. If the coin survived you know when the first block was mined.

Some of the oldest coins in existence I can remember: Ripple - it was established 2 years after bitcoin.
Another old coin is NameCoin and it was launched on the 18th of April 2011 and on 7th of October 2011 Litecoin was launched.
At this point, I consider everything launched after 2011 to be not old enough to mention or to brand it as 'old coins': like Doge or ETH.

So terracoin is part of an old coin now terracoin is still strong and kicking just a hours ago i see the price of terracoin goes up to 11.900 satoshi from 1500 satoshi this means that the dev and team of the coin is very hardworking thats yhe reason why i well invest my small money to terracoin a few months from there is a big explosion in terracoin that big news will make a lot of investors a very good profit.

How old is doge?

December 08, 2013

Really that old? Yet it is still struggling far below 0.0001btc. I sincerely wish the price hikes to the moon for I hold an appreciable number of coins here...Lol...Selfish me, right? By the way why is XRP still not minable?

litecoin and ripple still relatively cheap. anyone think its a good time to enter? or shall we wait until after 1st august to enter?
sorry cryptonoob here
Id say that it is a good time to enter ripple if you want because price is still at 0.00008532 BTC which is cheap and it has a lot of potential because it was launched just 2 years after bitcoin launched and it is still alive now but for litecoin I guess it is not a good time because price is not that cheap at all.

What's your take on the ripple founder fiasco that resulted in their CTO/founder leaving to start Stellar Lumen.

I have some Ripple too but please let me know if you have some insights

Difference between litecoin and ripple in price is huge, first cost 18 mbtc and second 0.08 mbtc. I sold my litecoins few months ago and even there are rumors that litecoin can go to 100$ before 2018 I'm not sure in that, I will think about getting back into the game with litecoins for a bit more. Ripple is cheap for now, and about ripple there is many speculations that goes from totally negative to totally positive, maybe same like that was in the beginning with bitcoin, eth, anyway I'm buying while its cheap and while community is active, also trading volume is always high with ripple, that is a positive thing.

oldest altcoin still good and active in market

1 litecoin (the first altcoin after bitcoin)
2 dogecoin (second altcoin after bitcoin and litecoin)
3 xrp
4 monero
5 DASH
I don't think xrp, monero and Dash were the 3rd to 5th altcoins ever created, so how are you listing these?

Its quite strange that there is no list or stat available where we can see for sure, the list of all alts according to their age.

He said oldest and still ACTIVE.
