If you're trying to mine bitcoin with a GPU right now, my advice is to simply stop and spend the money you would have on the extra electricity on simply purchasing Bitcoin directly.  Unless you get free electricity and don't mind the extra wear and tear on your GPU and computer in general, it's not worth bothering.  You will get very little out of GPU mining now.

Have you tried running the AMD driver cleanup utility and then installing the latest drivers?

Would love to but I live in a small apartment so the box is in my living room. Tiny hands, paws, not-so-small hands, etc would find their way in. Now, if I lived in a house with a basement I'd have crate miners with a box fan and some custom cardboard ducting....

I know this is an old thread but I've managed to get my hands on 4 different models of 7950 and found that they vary widely in what settings they'll take even within the same maufacturer.  I track all settings in a spreadsheet: core, memory, intensity, MH/s (or KH/s for scrypt) and fan speed and temp.  Tune each card until you squeeze out that last bit of performance then drop each setting back a notch to keep the card from burning out.  The best results I've seen so far run from 580MH/s to 640MH/s.

Don't underestimate the importance of cooling, by the way.  In a generic case my cards ran 20C hotter than in a Coolermaster HAF with big fans. On a whim I put a small Vornado on top of a Coolermaster XB which dropped the two cards in there another 5C.

Windows and Linux seem to perform about the same with the same settings but Windows draws up to 20W more power when idle and 40 when doing housekeeping since it revs up the HDD and CPU.

If anyone's interested in my specific cards and settings let me know.  All of my benchmarking has been done by hand so far but I'm working on a script to do that for me.  PM or post if you want a copy once it's finished.   It'll be BASH so meant for Linux but it should work on cygwin and since it's using cgminer's API you could run it on Linux or Mac and point it at a Windows box.

You might reduce thrashing by using a larger workload switch.

I'm doing 500mh/s with core @950mhz. I can go higher clock but the increase in power is not worth the extra hash. If you are using cgminer try this flags -w 384 -g 8 -I 11. I went from  470mh/s using 4 threads to 500 using 8 threads. Let me know if you try this and see increase in speed.

My single GPU gaming rig (the one that we've been doing all this tweaking on) never has it's gpu turned off, Not even for gaming, I just drop the intensity

was building gaming systems when i started on them, so didnt go for the cheap crap
since my flat mate moved out im using 1 as dedicated and the other as semi dedicated, turn on / off 1 card when gaming

i dont know why my card works with so low voltage, both my machines are identical with 2x xfx 7950 black edition single fan.
and on both machines, the card with the monitor hooked up too it, uses .995v as stock. the other 2 cards are same voltage as yours, but them i run at higher clocks so i dont care.

theres nothing wrong with your card so the manufacturer will prob not send you a new one, and im not going to tell you to void your warranty.

12.11 beta are a bit glitchy when i play games.
or watch youtube etc while mining.
and the drivers dont have anything to do with the voltage, has been like that since i got them.

ps: my cards are still stock, havent changed the paste or anything, but i am looking for a "cheap" watercooling system for my cards tho.

What the crap! Thats so gorgeous! What brand do you have? mines an XFX ghost, What should i do? Just tough it out? Void the warrenty with new thermal paste? Send the card back for somereason and try to get a new one?

On that topic, Why isnt your 12.11 all glitchy and artifactfy. Your 12.11 looks like its running just fine... I had to rollback off of it to 12.8 because of how Garbled it made my screen when i mined
