Bitcoin goes up and altcoins follow. We've never seen a rally the other way round:

that is the normal way. alts only move when there is alot of heat in bitcoin but when they move, they move alot!

Don't worry LiteCoinGuy, I know there are other coins like Litecoin around but I have just one love. And that is, in fact, Bitcoin.  Wink
By the way, I think almost 4 $ for LTC is a good price. It was too undervalued before.
I should have bought some..

I will convert to BTC my LTC someday..but hold some due to the fact it could go stupid high again (as an alternative to btc) at say 1000 usd btc
a 50 ltc is not beyond possible...just saying if LTC is like silver to BTC's gold ..all well and good but if  gold was the superior one and the elephant in
the room why do people still go with silver etc.....anyway I can move it to btc at a whim (the last of the ltc) but last 'hoard' from home mining so waiting (so far) ..just in case LTC has some more 'modest' legs too in the future of crypto (so far I've been right kept all that 1.30 LTC price (mined at 57c on cost of elec) from spring/summer 2014....so I can afford to gamble and sit on some don't ya know)

but home miners (titans) will doorstop soon and then I will just sit and yell in chat about wtf the price is doing and why ..years of future crypto confusion awaits me..)

I don't really think that altcoins are having an impact on people that use bitcoin. And most people that use altcoins are people that use bitcoin. Bitcoin is more well known and more useful compared to altcoins. I know quite a few bitcoiners in real life, and only 1 of them invests in altcoins.

Some altcoins have special feature. For example, Monero (XMR) offers anonymous transaction. The transaction is untraceable. It is convenient for privacy.

Yes they are not popular at all, only a small % of bitcoiners use them but from what you read here it's like they talking about the second coming. Only a very handful, if not just one or two altcoins have something new or unique to offer compared to Bitcoin. And even then Bitcoin will remain the standard unless a true new technology is created.

This entire run they haven't moved... any opinions on if this will do anything to the BTC price?

The usual cycle, first weak hands sell to get as much BTC as possible, then, when BTC price increases enough, alts start getting pumped cause ordinary people cannot afford BTC and buy the next best thing. Buy high volume alts, you ll profit on them within a year.
Yup, this happened during the boom in 2013. Anyone else remember the $15+ Litecoins? hahaha

I remember when Litecoin was 0.033 btc

Alts price will move also. In fiat they already move. Question is which alts will move most and first. Will be the same as in 2013 or will be the ones that are now most popular.
I think the first, since new users that will join Crypto movement will first notice old coins that already made some marketing in past and have positions on many exchanges.
Some altcoins that will be successful in future  with features that Bitcoin dont have and are bringing something new to the table will start growing n second wave, after new users will educated about crypto more.

I think its very clear right now that LTC will always follow, with other nice coins like Monero which always have very good liquidity. If you want to speculate with altcoin price movements moved by BTC allowing for those coins to follow, I would always gamble within the markets that have the most liquidity.

Looks like when the bitcoin price is stable it gives a chance for alts, usually we first see LTC explode.  If bitcoin drops that it run is over for all coins.

I would think that the alt scene does definitely play a significant role in influencing Bitcoin's price. Most altcoins are dependent on the value of Bitcoin, and the value of Bitcoin is determined by the applications of its technology. In time, all of these cryptocurrencies will take off and everyone dealing with them will be rich.

yep and this is not the first time that this happened, people should start to realize that this is the mission of the alts, bitcoin is the only one currency that's really matter yes? Tongue

No...Bitcoin's success is tied to the alts.  Much of the Bitcoin volume is dependant on the alternative coin exchanges. fiat for bitcoin, bitcoin for alt, alt for bitcoin, bitcoin for fiat....etc.

Hm, BTC price increase seems to have stopped. I hope only temporairly. Cause alt ll keep dropping until BTC reaches $500-600. Then the alt run ll start.

Wait until the  AM in China.

This drive is from Asia not America, we are just tagging along.

Yes it is 5 am now in Shanghai, so I think within an hour or two, the price increase will again start. Traders wake up early in China to start another bull run. Don't worry about the small price drops, it happens in such price increases.

Only a few coins I would see that aren't going to disappear and they are : Litecoin, dash, Peercoin, NXT and yes it seems they are tied to Bitcoin currently still.

Are those the coins you happen to hold by any chance?

Litecoin was more than $30 around that time.
If this thing repeats, and I believe it will, there is still much room for Litecoin too increase.

Oh yeah, I forgot that they even got higher then that at the time. I was busy with a volunteer project back then so I didnt have time to trade. I wish I would have cashed out back then.

Not all the time this is the scenario. When bitcoins do big rallies, altcoins tend to be left behind most of the time. The pump of LTC and other altcoins really amazed me, and I don't think that at the current rate of this market, someone will ever have the guts to put their btc on other altcoins on a big rally.

Since the bitcoin price is going steadily up the most logic thing to happen is seeing people start to dump Altcoins to get more BTC.

The pump of bitcoin is mainly in the big exchanges, these exchanges deal with fiat. Altcoins are dealt in smaller exchanges.

As is visible, bitcoin price is moving rapidly. I wish it could attain some 1200 USD value.

Some time next year, it will reach $1200. However, it depends if there is some kind of adoption for the coin.
