I don't think the .com domain is a phishing site or something scam, its just another community but seems dead to me, and not recommended of registering the same login info used in this forum.

You can read some discussions of it here
What with bitcointalk .COM, it's a bit misleading

You're right cause despite the long existence of the forum it barely have 330 users online in a day and I hope the newbies are aware of your advise cause anything can happen through the site.

That .com site has been around for quite a while if I'm not mistaken, and I'm not sure what the deal is with it.  Is someone squatting on the domain?

Doesn't seem to be like it. According to the WHOIS, the .com domain was registered roughly 6 months before the .org even existed.
Oh my!
I never compare the forum domain information to this forum and that the case I guess the person behind the forum creation will be one of the people in the Satoshi mail list.

I saw this forum before I thought it was bitcointalk.org forum just realize in the end I accidentally enter a .com extension it should be .org extension.

It seems that this domain mention here many times and according to them bitcointalk .com domain will "launch a crypto exchange called Exchange.Bitcoin.com".
Source: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/2019-08-02-bitcoincom-to-launch-an-exchange-5171805

I think someone bought this domain from the original owner recently according to this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5185244.20
So the site is handled by the new owner? or Roger Ver still owns this site?

Honestly, if you keep mention this domain here it will help bitcointalk .com to rankup in Google and replace the bitcointalk.org forum.
The organic traffic of this forum still low they have around 1k to 24k monthly visitor it is just estimated traffic comes from SEO tools in average. So I'm sure they are stealing traffic from bitcointalk.org

Well, since their forum is not active as bitcointalk.org the bounce rate is higher than our forum so people just visit and walk away they don't stay long on that forum.

For me it's a bit strange that someone rich and with bad intentions haven't bought this domain. Someone like Rodger Ver. Because this domain have huge potential and it's possible to make something similar like with Bitcoin.com in order to manipulate and mislead people.
From archived pages above it seems that someone already tried to "compete" with Bitcointalk with some slander against original Bitcointalk, but he failed.

Interesting stats :most user online 330 on 4th or November 2019.
This is just like a week or so ago and there was a hugs wave of users. Currently there are only 7 online and 1 registered.
If the site has been online for so long why just now is the topping of this ststs? Weird.

I had a thread on this subject a while ago : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/what-with-bitcointalk-com-its-a-bit-misleading-5130198

my guess is they held the domain so long but never really did anything with it. but it is also very apparent that it is not the .org it is not trying to pretend to be the .org

if the domain was around prior to the .org one - why would you report it? it is not trying to pretend to be the .org nor is it any real competition to the .org site. They have a few members that still post there but I don't see any issues why it needs to be reported.

Just reported that site at https://safebrowsing.google so that it will be blacklisted I guess. I am not aware of that site because all this time I really know that it is .org and not .com, I don't know who is behind that and the only primary purpose really there is, is to mislead, to phish and just get some other infos of users here in this forum.
At first I did not think that it could be something bad and someone just made a forum inspired by bitcointalk but I was wrong since then. Mostly that's the main reason why someone/group made that, to mislead and gather some information from members here in bitcointalk.  Phishing might not be that feasible reason since it is only the account, username and password, they are trying to take so maybe its purpose is just to hack accounts here and targeting the higher ones.

The link you provided was useful for reporting  unsecured website including this one. I might use it more often to prevent being hacked or scam. Thanks!

At the beginning the website bitcointalk.com appeared, only showing references to links for Bitcointalk.org, bitcoins.info, millybitcoin.com and cointext.xom

8 Feb 2014

10 April 2019
Already started active as a rival forum bitcointalk.org with a different look.

Only 1415 members are owned to date, with a topic number 171, post 1674.

There are only a few that are active, even hardly seen the latest posts again.

This site just wants to rival the success of bitcointalk.org. Domain.com is not always good. To create a forum like bitcointalk.org takes a long time and the strength of the forum community so that the forum persists to the present. Bitcointalk.org is the single largest crypto community forum with a total membership to date of 2.701.003 Members, Amazing. Shocked

That would be nice, because I'm sure I'm not the first one who's made a bone-headed move like logging in to the other forum instead of this one.
Did you? I hope you have not the same password that you had back then? Yes, mistake can happen unless one really is not aware of the TLD we have.
There are countless TLD right now. Here I think they have the full list:

Soruce: https://data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt

Which means with the domain name bitcoinTalk anyone can fit any TLD but it will be crazy to have all the TLD under bitcoinTalks belt and this is not logical as well but TLD like .com, .net, .me, .co, io and few more worth having. If they are not avialble then the owners can get some offers so that they find interst to sell them to bitcoinTalk.org

Plus even if it currently isn't a phishing site, who's to say that someone with malicious intentions couldn't buy it and turn it into one?
Very possible.

My point is tha the name BitcoinTalk is a brand now for crypto space and when a brand gets bigger (which we are now without any doubt) then they tend to get the common TLD so that their clients do not get confused.

I don't think the .com domain is a phishing site or something scam
I hope not, because one time I logged into that site with my .org password by accident--and it was stupid, I admit, but for a second I thought the new forum software had been launched (I'd just woken up, that's my excuse).  Right after realizing my mistake I quickly logged on to the right forum and changed my password, but it scared the crap out of me for a few minutes.

That .com site has been around for quite a while if I'm not mistaken, and I'm not sure what the deal is with it.  Is someone squatting on the domain?

My wild suggestion is that theymos can go and buy some of this domains and  can redirect all of them to here of course if the owner are willing to sell them and the price they will be offered will be satisfactory for them.
That would be nice, because I'm sure I'm not the first one who's made a bone-headed move like logging in to the other forum instead of this one.  Plus even if it currently isn't a phishing site, who's to say that someone with malicious intentions couldn't buy it and turn it into one?

I do not think they are "squatting" on the domain - they have been there since 2011 and they do have threads with over 20 pages of posts. At least that is what I can see from a non-registered user pov. I do not have an account there so there might be more to see for registered users.

I think it was just a rival crypto forum created by someone over ambitious to out compete bitcointalk.org but things didn't work out.
DdmrDdmr did try to explore its past archives and it's clear the person behind it wasn't happy with how bitcointalk.org was progressing
I’ve taken a look at it in archieved pages to see how much the “.com” site has mutated over time. There isn’t really much achieved, and what is very often error pages.

I did find this curious page header of the ".com" site back in 2014 (completely different UI): https://web.archive.org/web/20140208014228/http://bitcointalk.com/

that site has been mentioned in this forum several times and it is most probably a phishing site I suggest to avoid it.

Whoever is the domain owner, I do not think they had any intention to mislead or phish bitcoinTalk.org users, I mean us.

Check the site interface and it is totally different from us. Anyone with little knowledge about our community will know that that is a very different site.
What I can suggest is that theymos can buy the domain name from the owner if he things the name bitcoinTalk is a brand for us and I think it is indeed a good brand name "BitcoinTalk".

My wild suggestion is that theymos can go and buy some of this domains and  can redirect all of them to here of course if the owner are willing to sell them and the price they will be offered will be satisfactory for them.

I don't think the .com domain is a phishing site or something scam, its just another community but seems dead to me, and not recommended of registering the same login info used in this forum.

You can read some discussions of it here
What with bitcointalk .COM, it's a bit misleading

Just reported that site at https://safebrowsing.google so that it will be blacklisted I guess. I am not aware of that site because all this time I really know that it is .org and not .com, I don't know who is behind that and the only primary purpose really there is, is to mislead, to phish and just get some other infos of users here in this forum.

I haven't participated in the forum art contest and I learned that the contest will close on Friday so I googling this forum name in other to gather some unique information that will make my art stand out among others but to my surprise, this is what I found.

I check the site domain and it was created since 2011

Is anyone aware of the .com forum?
Who are the people behind it?
Was it planned to mislead people?

Thanks.
