Your going to judge a large community like BCT based on an individual who steals 10 BitCoin. If you wanna do trust over the whole community on BCT head over to the market place and do some trading there. If you get robbed a lot, than this aint the community that can be trusted. But many people have had successful trades there so I wouldn't think it would happen.

Tomorrow I will post the private key for a wallet holding 10 BTC.

Then, I will check the balance after ten days.

That will tell me if this is a community I want to be a part of.

This is pointless exercise. It is well known that there are sharks, con artists and thieves leaching off this community just like within every other community worldwide. Having faith that 100% of a community has good intentions is naive and defeats one of the central principles that bitcoin exists in the first place ... to protect yourself from institutionalized and petty theft through strong cryptography. Just because bitcoin allows you the freedom to and hand a bunch of sharks some cash doesn't mean you should.

Also, if you accidentally revealed your key, then it would be a real test, but here you're practically asking for it to be emptied. Why would you think it would be different?

What will result tells you?

It will be emtpy .... ?
It will remain the same amount in .... ?
Amount will increase .... ?

What you will learn from it? It`s open community here, even one with no profile can read here. You better save your BTC for future and think about new Test.
May be this thread is a test itself  Huh

You can't trust people in the internet, trust me (wait, what?)
Jk, really? Why leave 10 btc sitting in public, waiting to be emptied? There are few good men in the community but they are outnumbered by greedy people to. 10 days? Seems like forever. 1 hour or even 10 minutes would be long enough.

y would anyone put more cash into a unknown wallet?
To make it a good investment. The more cash is added, the more new wallets can be placed around town for the community to fill.

Whether your bitcoin is still there or not after 10 days how will that help to tell you whether this community is where you wanna be. What's the logic behind it?

why dont you leave your wallet on a public bench for 10 days and see what will happen?

Maybe I will. If the wallet on the public bench holds more money after ten days, I'll know it's a good community.

Dafaq did I just see?? y would anyone put more cash into a unknown wallet? a good community is that..which would give it to lost and found..n they give it back to the owner with the same cash..not more cash..lol.

You should PM it to me to see how trustworthy I am first.

Exactly.

I can provide a list of a dozen forum members.  You can send the private key to all of them via PM.  Then 10 days later you can check to see if the funds are still there.

This forum is open to the entire internet.  With your current plan, if your funds are taken, it's quite likely that someone that is not a member of the forum took your funds.  If you make your private key available to the entire internet, then you aren't really testing "this community" are you?.

Haha you might as well as well run through a corn field in the pitch dark naked to see if you get poked in the hiney!  It's gonna happen.

Posting such non sense in a public forum, where they maybe a couple of bad actors amongst thousands of visitors each day is a bad example of what the community represents.

Just like if you walk through a bad neighborhood alleyway where murders and rapes took place, and you come out unscathed, doesn't mean it's not a bad alleyway.

Not a good measure of what a Bitcoin community is all about.

If you really really want to know what the community is all about, you'd go to those Bitcoin meetups, conventions, meet with developers, meet with people near you:

Not stupid stunts like this!

Unless this is trolling (these days such claim is more likely to be trolling, but I'll assume it's not), for your own good, 0.1 or even 0.01 BTC will do the job.
If you will publish the private key in plain, with no tricks / puzzles, you can check back in minutes, it will be already emptied.

Of course he is trolling. He's not going to do this but it is obvious what would happen. Someone would take the money. Though maybe someone decent could take the money then send it back to you to prove a point.

Haha this is a terrible idea, Maybe if there was a private VIP section with only long or trusted members it would be a better test to see if the trusted people break, but definitely not in the public forums 2000$ just sitting there. It will be gone in seconds...

Minutes? You are being generous, I say someone already coded a small script to watch this post history for any private key string and transfer all the coins in a glimpse Cheesy

If I would still not believe that he's trolling, I would make that script myself.
10 BTC is a great prize for some 1-2h of work (that much because I lack experience on this yet).

You can do the same with just 0.1 BTC and the result would be same.

Someone might hand it in. Also depends on how much or what was inside it, but we alll know what would happen if op did this (though I don't believe he is going to).
