Goodnight, o_e_l_e_o 🌹
The hardship in Nigeria increase day by day the massive are suffering. The poor old men and women. That doesn't have access to bank are suffering.
I am confused. Did you mean people with not enough funds to open a bank account?

Quote
Just imagine a pregnant woman died in a hospital just because there was no cash the network was bad for transfer.

So the bank was just down? How long was the bank inactive and inaccessible for you to question the credibility of your leaders already?

Isn’t this just a temporary issue that can be given a solution with time? I mean if the hospital needs the payment from the bank they can definitely wait for a little more time if needed.

This thread was created when Nigeria was facing a very hard time. There was no cash in circulation, the country was forcing its citizens to embrace cashless economy while things were not put in place. There was no money in the bank and people will queue for 12hrs only to go home without cash. There was also a problem of bad network to make mobile network transfer. Little did we know that what happened then was an introduction to what we are facing now.

The problem of Nigeria is complicated, even the election that OP mentioned was conducted and the judiciary installed another candidate against the vote of the masses. This was when I gave up in Nigeria matter. Once the common man is deprived his ability to choose his leaders, it is finished. The corrupt politicians use the masses money to keep themselves in power.

Our people are suffering they are dying our leaders should do something about it to me I don't think we have leaders anymore. The people we call our leaders have already failed us. Now it's time for election let's vote wisely let not suffer for 8 years again

I looked at the time this was written and discovered that it wasn't even this year. If someone had told you the year 2024 was going to be the way we see it now, you would have thanked God for how things were last year. The hardship is increasing day by day you say, and that little increase of bad to worse has led us to this point.
Things may continue in this format, but the way I see it you may either continue to complain or learn from it and move on.

The economic situation isn't stopping you from being financially free. That's the goal every day, not some economic constraints caused by poor government decisions. Even in the worst kind of situation in Nigeria, there would still be some people who are not bothered about anything. I want to be those people and you just try being like those people too.

Saw that your government's even more vile, and dare I say even more fucked up than the corruption that the Philippine Government is doing upon its people. Politicians literally getting hired because they appeal to the public's humor, and many other preposterous reasons why people are getting seated at positions of power.

Also saw a fucking disgusting Tiktok video of someone (and correct me if I'm wrong about this) who is at the seat of power in a country within the African continent bragging about his watch collection, costing him tens of millions of dollars in total, and here I am lying down on my bet pimply-butt-naked thinking "why are these people proud that their leaders could afford this kind of shit when they can't even have working water stations/systems to support their citizens and the farming sector?"

You guys should really be a little bit smarter when it comes to voting for people, just cause they are famous doesn't mean they have good intentions, pick those with good track record, is really into public service, and someone who's not going to take advantage of the power that they are given.

Our people can't understand these basic things that these kinds of leaders only try to make themselves rich.In most of the cases either they are a part of world plan and they work on that or they want to get themselves rich.In both the cases they don't bother what people are going through.

A country will be destroyed if the people no longer care about the government system in their country, as happened in Nigeria, where the people no longer care about the political situation and government in their country. They forget that every policy, including economic policy, depends on the political policies issued. And they forget that society has the function of monitoring the government and every policy it issues. Society's insensitivity to the political and economic situation, as well as the government's inability to provide solutions to every problem that occurs in society, will further worsen the situation.

Quote
We could take a stand against them and try to select a leader from the poorest background so that he can understand what people are going through and he will be the best person to advise solutions for that. Don't go after these kinds of selfish leaders if you want to survive.

In my opinion, selecting and appointing leaders from the lower classes (poor society) is not the solution. Because greed can come to anyone, whether rich or poor, and maybe poor people will be more greedy than rich people. Because he did not want to return to suffering and poverty, during his time in office he tried to reap as much profit as possible, by abusing his position and committing criminal acts of corruption.

The situation in Nigeria is really bad. Their government and administrative system is really bad. Because of all this the people of their country are suffering so much.  Nigerians make the wrong decisions in the election of their leaders time and time again and pay for it in the long run.  It is really sad because the election of a wrong leader puts the whole country in danger. Hope they don't make this mistake in their upcoming elections and vote for the right leader.
Choosing the wrong leader in a country will indeed have a very bad impact on the people and this actually does not only apply to countries like Nigeria. But this also applies to other countries in the world because every country leader does not only think about his own stomach, but he also has to think about how to make the country develop and become more advanced by relying on state revenues and existing infrastructure. Because if we think about the bad impacts, of course it will be more directed at the people in the country itself, even though the government will also feel the same way.
That's true and what's funny is that we people still keep on doing it. Sometimes not intentional thinking the new leader will also be good as the previous one if the previous one is also good, or it will be better than them if not.

A wrong leader is the ones that will only think about their own stomach. When we say stomach it does not only mean about food (just to clear out those who won't get it) but it is only just a sample term. Government can only get a bad impression but they are not going to suffer in terms of personal life because they already secured the public funds apart from the huge salary that they can get during their term.

What I wonder is that every time we encounter difficulties, we always blame the government, but ironically the government is the people we nominate. Time and time again, generations of governments have been elected by us, but not once have we stopped complaining about our choices. So is it entirely the government's fault or are we also contributing to the difficulties we are facing?

I know that in an underdeveloped country, most of the responsibility lies with the government because they are too weak in promoting the economy. But in a country and around us there are still people with quite good lives, so if the fault lies entirely with the government, why are the people around us still very satisfied with their lives?, and we don't?

Fine by Time
Apparently, Nigerians have hot a local board now and you might want to move this thread over there.
That advice might be solid, but the situation in Nigeria (regardless of whatever factual errors OP made) is an economics topic, and I for one am always interested in hearing about what's going on in parts of the world that never get coverage on mainstream US news outlets, which is pretty much the rest of the globe unless there's some kind of war going on that might affect Americans.  So I say keep this thread right here, and hopefully it'll be a decent discussion.

You can say anything about how crappy the banking services, are and how bad the timing is but to pin the death of a pregnant woman in a hospital on the banks is just stupid.
Yeah, I just saw another thread about Nigeria in which the death of the pregnant woman was brought up.  It wasn't clear to me how the long ATM lines and her death were related, because her husband was, or could have been, standing in the queue instead of her.  I wasn't even sure she was in that queue to begin with.  In any case, I gave my opinion that it sounded like sensational journalism, trying to persuade the public that there were a rash of deaths because people didn't have immediate access to their cash.  I seriously doubt that's the case.
Nothing much is going on in Nigeria. Economic issues and inflation are global problems it doesn't imply to one country alone. Nigerians just like other countries are facing such challenges and only a few persons can be able to hold their emotions without expressing them publicly. OP, is a typical example of such citizens with fear and lack of control. I don't see anything new happening in Nigerian that is not happing in other countries in the world. Death, rich and poor, fight for power, failed government with false promises, favoritism and so much more. We are humans and we bound by these humanitarian curses. Quote me wrong if any country is the best and have not faced these problems at all

You might want to pay more attention to your write up or perhaps the situation in Nigeria got you so emotion to just type and not do a recheck.

Apparently, Nigerians have hot a local board now and you might want to move this thread over there. There is a lot on motion of the on going activities with the currency, fuel scarcity and others going in the local board already. Hope this finds its way there too as you seem to be speaking to the Nigerian people already. Although, its not going to be something strange anymore. There have been lots of talks already.

Nigeria is a Middle Eastern country that has been plagued by rebellion for decades. Many of the people there are hungry because people's income level is very low, so there are frequent robberies and even kidnappings under the pretext of ransom, even without any discrimination in carrying out their actions, in 2014 they even carried out their actions. The kidnapping of more than 1,600 students and their aim was none other than asking for money. Until now, the country of Nigeria is being squeezed on all sides, both economically, security and there are even areas where there is still no electricity. Hopefully there will be donations from crypto billionaires to help the people there

When the government is doing well, it will be a good thing we also talk about their good like what the new administration is doing to make sure they eliminate the hardship the past administration has caused in Nigeria.

You can see that, there is a steady network to carry out any transaction compare the past administration that made many people to lose their love ones because they didn't have network to access their transactions that caused the damage.

If what this new administration is doing now, to stop those foreigners using dollar to fight their local currency, I believe in 5 years time Nigeria will be a country everyone will like to live.

Finally some good news popping out about Nigeria and it would be really great if this happens as Nigeria is already a place everyone would like to live if not for the ongoing corruption which has caused hardship because the nation has everything like fertile soil, ground water, large number of young population and rich minerals, all it takes is a good and sensible governance.

I appreciate you bringing up this subject as it's very important people are reminded of and never forget the kind of atrocities that are going around different nations across the globe that don't happen in most other places.

I've read/been told that some of Africa's poor nations are being heavily controlled by China and Russia in the "background".  I'm curious of everyone's thoughts around that?

Believe it or not but price of commodities around the world has all gone up thanks to the war in Russia-Ukraine which has a spiral effect of increasing gas pump prices and other commodities in turn are indirectly affected..as human's we are survivors and I believe our friends in Nigeria will survive this hurdle.

I find this hard to believe, don't doctor's go by the oath of human life first before anything...
if this really happened find a way for the affected person to take legal address to see how they can be helped...

The problem is waiting for a miracle from politicians which is the wrong approach, these don't owe anybody a life which is why people need to hold the bull by its horns and find means to put food on the table .
It's good that governance in the country is 8years just as other countries do have their own tenure arrangements and if changes don't happen in a positive way during the first four years of a sitting president, it is possible to have another well deserving candidate become president and help turn the situation in the country around.

What I see as an issue, is the fact of not having one mind as citizens in a country.
Things are supposed to be better if everyone could help in their little way and not be afraid to do so, fearing death threats or kidnapping or robbery or something bad that happens to good people with good national interest of advancement.
As citizens of the country it is better to focus on getting better at whatever skills you have and try to increase your ability to earn, by so doing, issues like the pregnant woman mentioned would be avoided if you had the money and did the transfer to save her, let it be that it was the money that was the real issue and not the absence of good medical staff on duty or good operating machines and tools.

People can do something about it since you can vote for different politician for countries change. But if you keep putting the same guys on the set then change will never came on that country so citizens of nigeria should work for its change because its really bad if your health care system, economical and other aspects has been neglected by the head of the state.

But its good if you open up this discussion on Nigerian section because people came from outside Nigeria cannot do anything about it so speak up on correct board to get more good result since maybe you can influence people to vote the right leaders on your country.
Good suggestion dear, but personally I think the citizens/individuals in Nigeria are trying thier best at every given time during elections to execute judgement appropriately as they should on their behalf. They constantly witness their problems year to year without been solved, and  they're constantly been neglected by the government.

To be honest here, the political systems and agenda of the Nigerian government cannot proffer solid solutions to this crisis in Nigeria. Its very essential to have a leader in one way or the other, but in aspects that involves your wellbeing and livelihood, consider yourself as your the head;be your leader and follow your lead.Even if  it costs you, ride on with patience, wisdom and consistent sacrifices.Ensure to you make progress to learn, unlearn and relearn from the weakening economic.

I've heard of some Nigerian groups who are striving to make a difference, despite significant hurdles. For example, I've read about an organization called "Save the Children" that is striving to improve healthcare access and nutrition for Nigeria's children. I've also heard of the work of "Doctors Without Borders" in Nigeria, which provides medical care to those in need. These are only two instances of groups making a difference; there are many more.

Doctors Without Borders is Médecins Sans Frontières, a French NGO that is funded by more than 50% just by private donations from US and Germany.
Save the Children is a UK NGO, that got 1 billion in funding from US alone.

Kind of ironic to see that the only good examples are still run by the ones the population blames for everything wrong.
