The hardship in Nigeria increase day by day the massive are suffering. The poor old men and women. That doesn't have access to bank are suffering. Our people are suffering they are dying our leaders should do something about it to me I don't think we have leaders anymore. The people we call our leaders have already failed us. Now it's time for election let's vote wisely let not suffer for 8 years again
Such heartbreaking incidents really touch our tender hearts.  Leaders will only get their votes when they need them.  During the elections, every leader goes door to door begging for votes from the public. And during elections they promise that they will do everything for the people but when the polls are over the people don't get any help even when they go door to door. This is the current political situation. We can only pray for Nigeria from such situation.  May God remove this far-fetched state of Nigeria.
Just imagine a pregnant woman died in a hospital just because there was no cash the network was bad for transfer. Where are we going to
Pregnant mother died in hospital for cash only. There can be no sadder news than that. The doctors of that hospital should be ashamed for taking the lives of two people just for money. It is our prayer that God restores the situation in Nigeria.

Recently I was reading news article, the cash shortages have made  life even more difficult in Nigeria, where 63% of the population is poor, 33% is unemployed an only 45% of adults had a bank account, according to world bank. The crisis has added to the woes of surging inflation and a weakened currency.

Everyone has been stranded. There is no hope of survival, everyone is running here and there and looking for shelter. There is no electricity, no water, you cannot go out to the street to buy food. There is nothing you can buy and even the cash is not there. These politician seems like they don't value to the country's people. They don't care about anyone.

Nigeria is experiencing hardship because of they governance in the government of the country, from what i have noticed so far what caused the hardship in Nigeria is not basically for economy of the country but it base on newly established law used to frustrate some politicians because of the election of her country, so therefore it's only the new government that will emerge will happen to fixed the country.
It's important for each country to have a great leader, not only for their own but also who cares about the sake of its people. Unfortunately this wasn't easy and this is why many countries are still suffering and slow in terms of developments. Its been a long time since the country of Nigeria is known to be one of those underperforming countries in terms of other aspects because there are still aspects where they can excel.

People on this country are very literate when it comes to computers. Their new law can be great to frustrate those politicians who are not performing their duties well. People on this countries only need to vote wisely next time if they still want their country to improve.

For this very situation Mr Satoshi has given us a way to be free from the que in front of bank stop wasting our time. If peeps in Nigeria come together and ask for better infrastructure then it could change many things for them. I am talking about basic necessity of internet, cyber café or smartphones. Considering the fact that you are able to post here you must be having proper internet connection and access to multimedia device.

That is all is needed for every person in the Nigeria so that they can start using bitcoin. Imaging if from merchant to Retailer to consumer everyone starts tagging stuff in bitcoin (without converting to fiat) then they can raise the standard immediately and earn huge along the way.

They won’t be needing any sort of bank. They have chance but they should take it wisely.

I am sorry about what is happening in Nigeria. But I think the problem that Nigeria is currently facing is the result of the government being too hasty in deciding to issue new money. without preparing everything to overcome all the impacts and problems that will arise afterwards. and inappropriate timing is also another problem. namely because there is currently also preoccupied with holding presidential elections.

An example of a step that is considered too hasty is like in October 2022 the government there informed the public that there would be a change of old banknotes to new banknotes. so the government appealed to the people there to save their money and cash savings in the bank.

And this call should have been made when the government was fully prepared to distribute the new banknotes. however, it turned out that this call was actually made when the government was actually not fully ready to distribute the new money which he said was ready to be circulated. but it turns out the distribution is running slow. so that the paper money crisis began there. and causing queues at banks and at ATMs and such. people already save their money in the bank and they have difficulty accessing it. I read a lot about Nigeria lately. I do not know whether the news that reached me is true or not. please be corrected by users from there if I say the wrong thing.

I hope that all the problems that are being faced there will be quickly resolved and get better solutions and improvements for the future.

Apparently, Nigerians have hot a local board now and you might want to move this thread over there.
That advice might be solid, but the situation in Nigeria (regardless of whatever factual errors OP made) is an economics topic, and I for one am always interested in hearing about what's going on in parts of the world that never get coverage on mainstream US news outlets, which is pretty much the rest of the globe unless there's some kind of war going on that might affect Americans.  So I say keep this thread right here, and hopefully it'll be a decent discussion.

You can say anything about how crappy the banking services, are and how bad the timing is but to pin the death of a pregnant woman in a hospital on the banks is just stupid.
Yeah, I just saw another thread about Nigeria in which the death of the pregnant woman was brought up.  It wasn't clear to me how the long ATM lines and her death were related, because her husband was, or could have been, standing in the queue instead of her.  I wasn't even sure she was in that queue to begin with.  In any case, I gave my opinion that it sounded like sensational journalism, trying to persuade the public that there were a rash of deaths because people didn't have immediate access to their cash.  I seriously doubt that's the case.

That doesn't have access to bank are suffering. Just imagine a pregnant woman died in a hospital just because there was no cash the network was bad for transfer.

This is just bullshit!
You can say anything about how crappy the banking services, are and how bad the timing is but to pin the death of a pregnant woman in a hospital on the banks is just stupid. Imagine you would be in a car accident and before rescuing you the ambulance would check if you're insured or demand you to transfer money before they take you to the hospital, at least 20% of the daily care fee, book your hospital on bookingdotcom, I can already see the advert.

This is all the blame on the doctors and here they would be immediately fired and never allowed to practice again, plus slapped with so much damages to pay to the family that they will end up on the streets. I don't know if this really happens it's an exaggeration, it has a bit of truth but the rest is false, but in case it did really happen like this then that country has much bigger problems than a cash shortage.

When I see some posts like this online regarding my people, I wonder how the lies are formulated without guilt. Even with all the things happening, there are some things that are far from the truth. How can a bank transfer delay make someone lose their life in a hospital? Posts like this annoy me because it shows how our people are still the ones spoiling our reputation.

You might want to pay more attention to your write up or perhaps the situation in Nigeria got you so emotion to just type and not do a recheck.

Apparently, Nigerians have hot a local board now and you might want to move this thread over there. There is a lot on motion of the on going activities with the currency, fuel scarcity and others going in the local board already. Hope this finds its way there too as you seem to be speaking to the Nigerian people already. Although, its not going to be something strange anymore. There have been lots of talks already.

I agree with you on this one mate and it's no longer news to us and I think we also need to draw the attention of some Nigerian users who aren't aware of the presence of the local board as critical matters like this, is already too shameful to air out to the general public.

We also hope that this thread gets moved to the local board and if there is any help that could be rendered with regards to helping aid the relief of pains and hunger in the country will be encouraged and done through a more reputable member.
Thanks

I know how you're feeling right now, and we can feel it. We can feel it to the point that you are just making a thread here out of your emotion.

There has been lots of articles regarding corruption are being spread in the internet, and it looks like there is no solution still on what you're experiencing right now. It's very unfortunate to see people suffering from these corrupted government officials, but there's nothing we can do, but to just pray for your safety maybe.

Election time is time for you citizens to pick for a better leader. To pick a new administration that will help you and your country to what you are experiencing now. Use this power of you to pick a good leader, and maybe somebody move this to the Nigerian Local section if possible. Can't help you OP, but just stay strong.

It's very dishearting what is going on in Nigeria, how much suffering the people have got to endure and the trauma of not having much of a say given that, the laws aren't being as effective as we would have hoped due to corrupt practices.

This is apparently not the first time Nigeria is doing a rebounding of its currency noyes and yet, the notes aren't been readily available for the citizens. Even with the fact that, the CBN is actually dispatching this catch to the various banks there is but, the corruption which have rooted in the minds of those in administrative officers have given them the idea of profit over where you work rather than serve the public. You have these guys swapping these notes at a deal behind closed doors just to get a percentage.

The idea of rebounding of notes goes from reducing the rate at which individuals are hoarding currency to ensuring looted funds by politicians and those collected in ransom by criminals are rendered unusable but, somehow these guys are still finding there way to swapping these notes and thereby, the people just suffer the scarcity for no reason.

You can rest assured, whatever leaders you have will simply screw you over in similar ways, I doubt the opposition parties have much to offer that could get Nigeria out of this predicament. Unfortunately this is often what happens when your country just keeps on growing beyond the resources it needs to sustain itself and all the people of Nigeria actually hold some blame in this matter. This is not a problem solely in Nigeria, but lack of contraception usage and having far more kids than you can look after is somewhat irresponsible too. Using them as your retirement plan is often the case in developing countries but it can make economic problems much worse if many people will not have decent jobs when grown up.

The current situation in  Nigeria is redesign of currency, the redesign of currency makes the citizens suffer, especially hungry is in Nigeria, no money to buy food stuff, they use money to buy money, because of the redesign of currency money became scarce in Nigeria before you will see money your own money you will suffer before you see money, when you go to the bank you will see people sitting there make sure they feeds themselves but to take money in the bank is very difficult.people are not traveling because of the scarcity of money in the country.you have money but you can't to the money.people die, people commit suicide, I even heard a story about a wealthy man,he went to the bank just withdraw a little amount of because his wife is sick and there is no way to feed the kids,so he just wants a little amount to sustain with his family no way,not even exorbitant amounts just little amount to live with his family no way, they redesign the banknote to stop vote buying, buy the redesign of banknote starves the country.

Consistency will make you a good writer. Don't be in hurry to create threads, read more and make comments on other threads. There are some other related threads concerning this matter have been created by others so you would have made comments there.
The present situation in Nigeria is unspeakable. Other countries also have there  own dilemma, but the situation in Nigeria is different as of now. You have money but you can't access to the money. The cashless policy has failed, ATM is not dispensing inside bank on the cashier desk is not paying.
One of the main reason of the redesigned of the banknote is to stop vote buying in the forthcoming election in the country but that has been failed. Vote buying in this year election will be very high. The politicians are using app transfer to the vote sellers.

This is a very difficult thing and I have never felt anything like it where I am. From the news I read on a site, it was stated that the country of Nigeria is experiencing a paper money crisis so there are many queues in front of the bank at night until the morning in order to be able to withdraw cash as quickly as possible. I certainly couldn't imagine this because there would be more time to be sacrificed to queue in front of the bank in order to be able to get cash for those who already have a bank account.

But those who don't have a bank account will be very angry and confused because they can't buy anything when they don't have cash in their hands. But what I read from the news that was published a week ago said that the Nigerian Supreme Court has ordered the relevant regulators to speed up the distribution of paper money in order to overcome this as quickly as possible so that this does not last too long, especially if in the near future the Nigerian state has to choose new leader to lead the country better than before.

You are simply not technical with this write-up and it's clear that you rushed into it being emotional. Nigerian is presently facing a cash crunch issue that was caused by the CBN policy on limits and Naira redesigning. These are measures that are long overdue as no responsible country would leave their bank notes unchanged for too long to curb the illicit flow. Nigeria's issue is even more, politicians often buy votes, which is why the CBN and FG took that measure at this crucial time the presidential election is on the 25th of February.

But the corruption is fighting back, politicians sabotaged the process which led to what Nigeria is facing presently. And as for the woman you claimed, is it the fault of the government or the bad hospital that rejected a bank transfer (which is a valid means of payment) and demanded cash? The hospital is being probed right now.

I agree with everything you said. You seem to be on same page with me.

First I think the woman died because of very bad medical care and idealogy in Nigeria. Apart from network issues or shortage of cash, a good health system would have done better in any situation. This brings us to bad government and politicians who have also been very quick to hijack the new currency for the purpose of buying voter's conscience at the ballot. Just like you have said, they are fighting back the policy because they know that it has really taken out cash from their reach and doing transfer will not be a fast approach in the ballot. From the broadcast from the president, he also alluded and confirmed that the policy has minimized the flow of cash in this electionary time and this is true with the way corrupt politicians are almost wanting to engage the president or the CBN governor in a boxing match. I think we have to be patient because after the election, those new currency that have been hijacked would find their way to the system.

We don't know for sure how the condition of the people there is and even if it is true as what the OP said, this situation is not good for our brothers there, what I know is that Nigeria is one of the countries that has natural wealth (Oil), this country must be more independent and it didn't happen like the OP said. In various internet media that I searched, Nigeria is going through a cash crunch causing long queues at all the ATMs, cases like this are very rare in some other countries and to be honest I have never heard of anything like this in other countries. Suggestions for the OP to move this post to the Nigerian Local board, because the discussion specifically is more directly related to events, or it can also be moved to the Politics and Society board because the OP mentioned about selecting leaders for the future.

Hardships is everywhere, don't think about your country being the only one experiencing thesame, alot of things had been happening concerning concerning the world economy and the financial system at large, the inflation and other cause to low economic performance have affected things beyond the ordinary cope, but we must not remain mute about these things, we need to act and fact as soon as we can to safe the world from the certain experience we are having, though we can't blame any for being responsible than finding a means to providing alternative solution to all accrued areas of interest that needs change

Just as you have said the only thing that can be done right now is for citizen of Nigeria to come out on the day of their presidential election and vote, that's the only way that they're going to notice any change in the system. And majority or we Nigerians believe that Peter Obi has the potential to change some of the political activities that has been holding the nation back but the only issue now is that most of his supporters don't even have voters card to vote but still keep on rooting for him.

But its good if you open up this discussion on Nigerian section because people came from outside Nigeria cannot do anything about it so speak up on correct board to get more good result since maybe you can influence people to vote the right leaders on your country.

We already have several threads concerning this topic about "Nigeria politics, the current situation of cash in Nigeria and also the forthcoming presidential election" I believe Op hasn't been to the Nigeria board that's why he created this thread.
