@buwaytress

That's absolutely fantastic news!
I was getting a bit worried, but I guess the post system is just a bit slow Tongue

Also included some DigiPiglet stickers, as you can see. You can always send the rest of them along with the piggy, it's not that they add any costs to the package Smiley

Hello everyone, it seems that my DigiPiglet has arrived;) It actually got in in the morning, while I was out, kid forgot to tell me until just earlier (way early in the morning right now my time).

So I've reached out already to Bengy but I don't think he replied yet (I check my Steemit and don't see). I left comments on his most recent post with my email and bitcointalk.

I'm going to ask around, I actually don't mind even any parts of the world, but yeah I suppose the chain is likelier to continue more quickly where we are (but that's just my assumption).

My thoughts: Mail is quite reliable in my part of the world, domestically. I use post a lot all over the world and standards aren't so great nor consistent, so you never know. With packages generally, they do arrive (in my experience). I've had lost letters, postcards, never packages.

P.S. Pics later;)

You're right with your assessment, but you always have that risk in a trust chain. The reason we're going through the effort of sending it from person to person is that we want people to hold this thing in their hands, share it, show it to friends and anyone that's interested. We're not about being the most efficient charity out there, just completely different.

So are you just doing this solely because of marketing or you want to give the donor a firsthand experience on how he can be part of the charity? Either way this is really risky, I haven't even mentioned anything about the risk on how it could have problems with your courier (from delays and damages to theft) and I think eternalgloom is currently experiencing it now with the delay in shipment. At least just make the piggy empty and don't store the wallet's private keys inside of it, it removes the temptation for the donors on stealing it and there is really no point on adding it when already receiving the DigiPiglet is something they need to look forward for.

I want to do both + I want people who never experienced Bitcoin before, to hear about DigiPiglets and get to know how (easy) Bitcoin works. When I showed the DigiPiglet to people and explained how it worked, it was much easier for them to wrap their head around, than when explaining Bitcoin in theory. We can minimize risk if we personally hand it to others. I was hoping the piglet would find a Bitcoin community hub somewhere, where a few people could hand it to each other personally before sending it to a different country.

I'm getting a bit worried now for the DigiPiglet, I hope it didn't get lost in the mail.
Since I've mailed it last Thursday, I would have thought it'd had arrived by now.

I hope it'll arrive tomorrow at buwaytress's place.

Does the mail carrier have an inquiry process for stuff like missing mail?

I reckon they do, I'll start that process if it hasn't arrived by Friday.
Now, I did also put a return address on it, so normally it should just arrive back at my place if something went wrong.

Maybe go with tracking to send it to the next guy, if that isn't too expensive.

The Bitcoins are still on it at least Tongue

I really like how the work is ot for but I just see two flaws in the system. One is the need of the DigiPiglet to be on hand physically to the next recipient before it can send BTC to the piglet, by doing this like what eternalgloom will be doing on shipping it to the next trustworthy person he will be incurring additional cost by doing so. The second one is related to the first flaw because this kind of system you will be risking the donations everytime you send it to another person, as you are handing out the private key everytime you send it to an individual even if you think the person is trustworthy doing it with 98 more prople looks like a risky thing to do.

Key Facts:
3. The 99th recipient sends it back to me.
4. I unload the balance and send the money to a Venezuelan Charity Organization

How can we be sure you just won't keep the coin?   You are an anonymous newbie.  :/

You can't, that's why it's a trust chain Wink But I have a digital footprint and I'm happy to engage with you guys in real life. If you check out my Kickstarter you will find my real name. My LinkedIn is out there as well.

I know I don't have a trust score, but I've been a member here for a long time and I've never bothered with getting a trust score by doing small transactions or whatever.
I can vouch for him, since I've met him IRL.

I just don't think he'd put the reputation of his entire business in jeopardy, by stealing a measly $500 (the approximate value of the DigiPiglet at the end of its journey).
He traveled all the way to Belgium, in order to meet me and hand me the DigiPiglet. Would a scammer really go through all that trouble to steal $500?

We haven't even decided where the money will go exactly, I'd suggest letting the community decide that and make it all as transparent as possible.
I'm 100% sure that OP wouldn't have a problem with that, heck, he probably also wants to do it like this.

@buwaytress

The Bengy guy on my list is also from The Netherlands, so that might be a good option?
And them maybe let him send it to someone in the UK for example, so it can go to Gibraltar pretty cheaply.

I hope you guys don't mind me sharing the general locations, it's kinda hard to organize if I don't Tongue

The Bengy guy I'm talking about is on this list:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.52414882

Oh yeah, I've also added some DigiPiglet stickers in the package, you can send a couple of them along as well. It's not like they weigh much.

Adding the receipt I got from the post office as proof:

Thanks for the update, eternal! No worries, I think post in this region is fairly reliable, except for extreme bad luck. Worse case, we have the private key!

Now my next job is to find someone else, or is tweetious going to next? Be nice to find a way to also "stamp/mark" or even inscribe all the locations on the piglet, but there could be some other creative way later to assign some note to it without scarring the pretty thing heh.

@DigiPiglet projects like this make me smile. And, I suppose the rules, like most things like this, can tend to be quite fluid!

Update you guys when it arrives.

It's now on its way to buwaytress Smiley
I hope it arrives safely, because I didn't go for the tracking. Trying to keep it a bit cheaper to send, as the tracking would have added too much.

Everyone, thank you so much for participating! Really makes me happy to see the piglet get around Cheesy

Just wanted to note that you don't necessarily have to send it via mail, if you know someone who is interested and is willing to look for the next person, you can hand it to them personally. Just make sure they are able to share it online. You can always contact me if you need assistance. Whoever wants to write about it or share it otherwise, feel free to send me a pm if you have further questions. Of course, anyone is invited to donate even if you can't participate (thanks buwaytress!)

Lets see where this goes Grin

@eternal Unfortunately I have no real idea about Steemit but I liked the post anyway and I think I shared it (I need to check properly)!

I saw your PM and responded only just now, this little project had me interested from the beginning for some really odd reason so I really don't mind. It would be so cool to see his piglet traverse the world wouldn't it?

Wow, amazing, didn't expect so many people would be interested!
I have my work cut out, just to pick someone.

Btw, I've made a list here with all the people who are interested in participating:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.52414882

I'm keeping it updated and will pick someone tomorrow. I've also suggested that we work through this list in the beginning, so everyone gets a chance to participate.

I'll also just post this here again, a blog post I've made on Steemit regarding the DigiPiglet Journey:
https://steemit.com/blog/@daan/the-digipiglet-journey-creating-a-physical-bitcoin-trust-chain-for-venezuela

@buwaytress

BIG THANKS for the early contribution!

OP, and eternalgloom, so glad to see it going somewhere since following it some time ago! I think it's a great idea, and it'd be really fascinating (at least on some level!) to be part of this, and be part of the whole bitcoin tapestry.

Now I'd like to contribute but not via Kickstarter. I think I commented in the KS thread that I would have put in something if it accepted BTC. Happy to join the chain if anyone would have me (but location is shifting a lot!).

Regardless, my contribution to keep this rolling.

Good work, guys!
