I believe all this new world for cryptocurrencies will end around the next decade if something blocks it or people will be willing to inovate it.
Just like money (fiat) most of the new technologies and currencies we are seeing evolve with time. And time is what government needs to control such transactions.

The more we support it the more government will accept to use it as their own markets.

Hello!
We, all crypto users are wish a long life to bitcoin to it continue to bring us some extra profit on different ways. But one day something new will replace bitcoin. My question is - how many year you give to bitcoin before it will turn totally useless?
I think about another 50-100 years until Bitcoin ends. Currently Bitcoin and Crypto are threatening other economies when attracting a lot of investment from investors at present. I can believe that Bitcoin and Crypto will end when there is a better option to replace them in the future.

I think bitcoin and blockchain technology which other coins are built are very unique and we are still at the early stages of it developments and because of this we should understand that it might never die and it will be with us till the end of the ages. In reality the discovery of blockchain technology was a solution to long time research of making transactions especially the financial one Anonymous  and kick third party out of transactions and I believe that is what many of us wants.

Very nice question, well for me BTC will never be useless, if it will become one, it should make altcoins useless as well.
BTC was fist introduce in the market and it's the first one to be popular, at this point of time, it's hard to say that it will be useless if it's holding a high dominant rate. Do you think the coin that dominated the market now will be useless in the future? I don't think so really.

It will turn useless if there's no more miners. But do you think that time will come if miners stop mining it? I'm not even thinking about this given that the total mined coins are about 17.6M and that's near to the total max supply of 21M.

I can say for now that bitcoin is here to stay and we're far from seeing that point.
How exactly do you think bitcoin will turn useless if there are no more miners mining the bitcoin?
The only reason I can think of for miners not mining bitcoin is if something unexpected happens out of the box and all the miners suddenly stops mining bitcoin.
This is highly unlikely to happen since bitcoin holds 50% dominance and most of the crypto enthusiasts support bitcoin. Even after the 21 million supply limit of bitcoin is reached, the miners will still be validating the transactions as the mining fees will then be treated as a reward for the miners. I definitely don't think that miners not mining bitcoin will make it useless.
I know that this is highly unlikely to happen but OP is looking for an "IF" and that's what I think that can make bitcoin turn into something that won't have any worth and use at all.

I think you haven't understood the point that if there will be no more miners. Yes, miner plays an important role for bitcoin and it's ecosystem. And even it reaches the total supply, they will keep on mining to confirm transactions and the point is what if they are gone? and that's what OP is asking about. But I'm aware that it won't happen.  Smiley

I'm not yet seeing any coin that could replace bitcoin but maybe you are right and you could also be wrong. Until now bitcoin is still the king of cryptocurrencies and nobody wishes that it would be useless. Though it is true that other cryptocurrencies will come and yes too many do come but still nothing has much impact to beat the popularity and value of bitcoin.

I think that you have the wrong theory. Everything has the begininig and the end but I don't think that Bitcoin will become worthless and get replaced with something else. At least not in the near future.
So far many coins have tried to take its place and every time when the price goes down some are saying Bitcoin is going to die. None of these has happened so far and it's not very likely that it will without something completely new and revolutionary appearing at the market. At the moment I don't see anything like this on the horizon.

For me I think I would still see it and use it till we all grow up and I think even our son or grandson would use it.
So for me it would take some generation before Bitcoin dies ,It could be replace but we don't know when and what would replace it,
But even if it get's replace by some alt-coin it would go down in history for sure so it wouldn't be out of the crypto market.

See:

evolution

bitcoin is also evolving, it will not die, on the contrary it will evolve and every time it evolves, it will become better and more people will use bitcoin. Bitcoin has an anonymous creator and this makes a lot of difference in relation to the other altcoins. bitcoin is decentralized and struggle to continue decentralized and this makes a lot of difference in relation to other altcoins. I do not see any other altcoin competing with bitcoin

Day by day the advancement is happening through every sector. Cryptocurrency too isn't an exception, and from my understanding it won't go useless, because when it came to existence there isn't any big usage of bitcoin. Slowly it got its usage and when days pass it'll get used as if we use fiat. Moreover it's value keeps growing as it is limited and more people have begun to adopt as well invest on the same.

Bitcoin still has a huge untapped market and so it has never crossed my mind that it would become worthless a day to come.
Bitcoin is the future of payment .
Some people think that the fall in price of bitcoin means bitcoin is worthless or valueless which is not entirely true.

How many years the barter system changed by money paper?

That is my benchmark to use/believe to bitcoin, what useless means for you? value/price side, functions side. I don't think bitcoin will useless totally, barter system still use by some people till this time.

I know and I believe in bitcoin/blockchain a technology. Bitcoin is diving down, market has not shown any growth that all is temporary. I would assume we would need to get above some important support areas which obviously take time, be patient. Individuals that state bitcoin is ends are the ones that get rekt from bad trades. Its going about to long.

..Bitcoin will exist and last for many generations..we will be gone and many things even us will passed away but the existence of Bitcoin will remain on the future..Bitcoin will become totally useless if and only if there were no people will support, adopt and use it..but as long as we live, the existence of Bitcoin is still useful for us because it gives us the chance to reach what we not expected to reach..

I see it is totally impossible for bitcoin to become valueless in the next century. Humans are always greedy and if someone stops mining bitcoin, the other human will continue to mine thinking he will benefit more from the miner's rewards. And we all know that bitcoin is a blockchain TECHNOLOGY and when we say TECHNOLOGY, it can be upgraded. So even if in the future we will no longer use digital coins, I believe developers will find a way to transfer the data to the new technology. I don't think developers will leave bitcoin to die. Someone will always stand up and take action.

Would not it be a bit awkward to talk about Bitcoin totally getting useless when we are not yet even halfway to our goal? I do not understand why such a question suddenly popping up in someone's head. Instead of devoting time to such imagination, why don't we try to imagine other possible ways for us to help promote Bitcoin? We still have a lot of time with Bitcoin. There is no point looking for a replacement as of now. It might take a thousand years before Bitcoin will leave this world.

Bitcoin could never be useless unless there is no more people using it,
And I think it wouldn't happen because even if some alt-coin take's Bitcoins place there would still be a Bitcoin supporters that would continue to use it.
Even today, there are more practical systems than Blockchain, and also no one can guarantee that it will not happen after a few years. Crypto is the best choice for now, but its place in the developing world will surely be taken by another system one day.

As long as the best features actually make it to Bitcoin and people find it useful, I don't see how there will be anything replacing it. Bitcoin has grown significantly with SegWit and LN operating as second layer.

I think it's safe to say that the most exciting upgrade will be Schnorr signatures, which actually helps Bitcoin scale on-chain, which means transactions take less block space and thus are cheaper by nature.

I hope Schnorr will make it to Bitcoin this year, because with the block halving coming closer and closer, the network activity will increase as well, which forms a perfect first test for Schnorr to show its usefulness.

For someone bitcoin is already useless. For example, those people who live in Bangladesh, I guess we all heard how rough they are to crypto users, so there are not so much people who wish to take a risk and use it, that's why we may say that for people in Bangladesh bitcoin is already useless.
Well, in the case of remining people - I really can not say when bitcoin will be out of use. It will transform in something new probably, and continue to be used for something Smiley
