If it's something made by the government or by banks then you should definitly know that it won't be private and they will have control of everything just like the banks right , nothing much will change .
and for what comes to the Paper money I don't think it will dissapaear , maybe on some countries yes but worldwide ?definitly not because some countries don't even use Credit cards for their transactions so ... yep
When you say "Private," what do you mean?
Governments can quite easily put out a non-private digital currency and still maintain almost 100% control of that currency. I mean, who
really created Bitcoin? That hasn't been revealed.
The benefit of digital currencies is their 'programmable' aspect.
It doesn't matter what a small segment of anarchists and/or libertarians think, 90% of most societies in the world live almost 100% by the word of their government. And if their government tells them to adopt some form of digital currency that they have programmed to deduct certain amounts of money per year for tax purposes, then they WILL adopt that currency - regardless of how private or non-private it is.
But, overall, if some government actually did this, then they would be bringing with them an entire country and adding that population to the crypto currency ecosystem - which will be a GREAT thing for alternative currency developers
As far as paper money goes, there has been plans to eliminate paper currencies since the invention of debit and credit cards. Denmark is now a
testing ground for the coming cashless society as well as
Sweden. So, clearly, cash is on the way out and this has many connotations on a macro economic scale.
Without cash, there can be no bank runs. So perhaps in the coming years, the world governments are anticipating some form of catastrophic event that could lead to a world wide run on the banks. And, through technologies such as Bitcoin and the Blockchain, they are preempting this by slowly ushering in a completely re-designed financial system... beginning with the gradual elimination of Cash
