Most gamblers are ganbling because they want to earn money and no doubt about it. Who doesnt like money?? Yeah maybe some here are gambling just to spend their free time on it but earning profit is the main reason.
Those who are saying people gamble for fun and entertainment purpose, think more clearly. If you actually wanted to gamble for "fun" then why are they spending their real life money? There are lots on casino games out there which are free to play. You basically gamble with virtual coins that has no value. Why not play those games for fun? We all know, they do it just for the money.
It's a mix of both money and fun. I don't know about you, but I just don't get the same rush gambling with tokens that have no value on a free virtual casino game where I have nothing to lose and nothing to gain versus gambling with money that I have saved specifically for gambling where I care whether I win or not. It's just not the same thing. I don't gamble only for the money, but it's not only for fun at the same time either. It's not really one or the other for me. It's the rush that makes it entertaining. As long as you are capable of being consistent in the long run, and correctly managing your emotions, you won't be disheartened.

Well virtual coins is an ironic subject here but people have to attach value in the gamble to feel the loss and the gain or there is no parallel emotion to the event of the win or loss.

The alternative would involve something else with alot more effort, some people gamble their health doing dangerous sports and thats a buzz nothing else can match for them.

I would say my main reason for gambling is just for pure fun. I would not mind losing because I only play with small bets, set my limits and know when to stop. You know, a lot of people here are saying that setting a limit, a good amount in which you should stop when you achieved will be of a great help to you, but most of the gamblers is not like that. They usually gamble all of the money they have in their pocket at that time since controlling yourself on that limit is hard especially if you are winning. Looking at the poll results its basically a tie between "To make money" and "Its how I spend my free time".
However I have a feeling that those that chose "To make money" they actually end up losing money and those that "its how I spend my free time" are the casual gambling winners.
My guess is that its due to emotions. The ones that do it purely to become rich, they become emotional and end up losing everything. While the ones who gamble from time to time with their friends at the casino, they do it for fun and the main objective isn't to make a profit. So they can actually win something from time to time.

When I made a thread about whether gamblers think that gambling addiction has the same reason, the answers differed a lot. Now I am curious what kind of people are gambling here. Yes, you are right. But unfortunately, not all people can have fun in the gambling games especially if that person is chasing the winning money until he lost all of his money. He cannot get fun in the games, and I guess he will be still curious at the end of the day and he wants to play in the next day until he wins the money. Besides that, the addicted person in gambling will not enjoy the games because his passion is only playing the games without thinking about having fun in the games.
It boils down to money I guess. Specially for those who are hoping to get a windfall and uplift their lives to say the least. Of course we have some good times playing specially if you go to a land based casino but at the end of the day, people gamble to won money and lots of money, those people saying to have some fun will just realised that its very costly, Lol.
There's two reason why I gamble and the primary reason is to have FUN playing online casino. Getting profits from my bets is just secondary.If my main reason is to gain profits, I might end up getting greedy on all my bets and its not fun anymore if I didnt win all the time. That's why I placed Fun as the primary reason, so that regardless if I win or lose, it's entertaining my self, having fun is the goal.
To be honest, before, my goal was to really earn money. But thankfully, I was able to learn it early that I won't or I will be really having a hard time if that is my goal because there is always the house edge advantage.
However, I still do gamble sometimes, but these times, I only do it for fun especially if my team is playing. I gamble in basketball game.

I agree, I think it's how a lot of us get started - we think we can make easy money, and when we realize we can't, or that it's not easy money (it's really hard lol), then we are still stuck with the bug and do it for fun. hopefully not losing too much, just the same as going to mcdonalds lol. i would say that using a betting exchange like betfair brought a lot more depth to it than just sportsbook. backing and laying, watching how the markets move in real time, very interesting. good thread!

Some people are just happy to just met people from the casino and some are just fond of playing without thinking about how much money they lose just for the sake of entertainment. And there are some other people that who gamble only for the sake of profit so you can't just tell it if don't know the reason of why they gamble.
No, there are many gamblers who actually do not have any proper reason for their gambling. They simply spend some money on daily basis for their gambling still they cannot state one particular reason why they are gambling because they are not getting a satisfaction level of emotion with their gambling activities as they are not finding the exact result from gambling so they keep trying to find that.They mostly do gamble just due to the got introduced to it and they do not know how to avoid it. They are finding some soothing from that environment, that could be the one reason but definitely they cannot state that. When you do not have one proper expectation from gambling like that could be making profit or finding entertainment or anything similar to that, how you can justify your gambling activity's core reason. They gamble because they are aware of existence of such a place and their financial situation is also allowing to do so. No other proper reason for sticking with that.
I tried gambling to make money through trying my luck but my intention is not only to make money from gambling since I know if we do the we are going to get dissappointed.But there are some other people who just get more self confident and coming to gamle with the thought that they can make money from here,who are the people getting atticted to gambling.

I don't know anyone who is gambling for fun or to not be bored, because there are much better ways to spend your money. Instead of losing $1000 at the table you could rent out a supercar for the night, pick up some girls, get a hotel room, and have a much more productive evening.

I really do not gamble that much anymore but when I gambled more regularly it was simply because I found it more entertaining before, in the game of poker you are not just pressing a few buttons in front of a machine, you need to actually think and try to figure out what your opponent has and why he is betting the way he does, so to me poker is a very entertaining game because I need to constantly think what my opponent has and if I think I can beat them.Also unlike many games in which you are playing alone in the game of poker you are playing against many people and you can interact with them and you get to know a lot of people that are very interesting.

In my opinion the keyword of gambling is "ambition" . But not just one kind ambition it changes from people to people . Somone play for winning ambition, some of them play for money ambition,someone just have ambition for those games.I think if someone happy with his life probably he wouldn't gambling because ambition connected to what you want.
I want to try my luck, that's my vote. My philosophy in gambling is that it depends on luck entirely. You can win if you are good but you can win more if you are lucky on a certain moment because it is not everyday that you are lucky.
Gambling is about luck those who wins must be lucky allot but I think we cannot entirely rely on luck because I have seen people earning more with skills than only luck.
