The Nano X is still in the pre-order phrase. Shipping won't start until March. They won't "release" updates for it before it has shipped as such, but when you first try to use it there may be a firmware update to download. No doubt there will be some early updates in March and April when it starts getting used with a variety of operating systems, hardware configurations, and phones, and bugs which weren't discovered during testing start showing up.

Spider A4, Nano X has the possibility that user can install up to 100 apps at the same time, and Nano S has theoretically had the possibility to have up to 18 apps at the same time, but with the last firmware this number has considerably reduced (fix is comming). The second important difference is Bluetooth so users can use Nano X wirelessly with their devices.

There are also some design changes, new X have two round buttons which allow you to navigate through the menu and for confirmation of transaction, correct address and other things. Old S have also two buttons who are coming out from device body, so this new buttons visually looks a lot nicer.

I think Nano X is have latest firmware preinstalled, and for now there is nothing new you can install.

TL;DR: Sorry you can only install 3 apps at a time now. This was a mistake, and we will fix it. Also, expect Android app compatability with Nano S soon.

A nice blog post from the Ledger team. I like the phrase "this was not planned obsolescence", because that is certainly what it felt like. If they get this next update right and get the Nano S running smoothly again, and meet their timeline of "soon" (TM) for the Android app support, that might just convince me to get another Nano S to set up with some fresh addresses to carry around as a day-to-day hardware wallet.

Are the funds on the device recoverable in anyway after doing it and not able to access the ledger by plugging it in?
With the 12 word paraphrase you should be able to transfer the cryptocurrency in question to another wallet off the device right?

If you are using your seed words (Ledger Nano S have 24 word seed), then you can restore your wallet in any new HW by just entering you seed. In that way all you coins will be restored, assuming you're using same HW again. Some other HW does not necessarily support all coins supported by Ledger.

In case you want to restore your wallet in any desktop wallet, you need to be especially careful due to the fact that there is a lot of fake wallets. So smart move would be to use trusted BTC wallet in the first place, and after recovery send BTC to brand new wallet. In this way you protect most valuable coins first, and then use that seed to recover others. If seed fall into the wrong hands and you are not fast, all your coins will be lost very quickly.

If a ledger nano s is not responding after a firmware upgrade is it bricked and not functionable any longer?
No. It’s not bricked. IIRC, the Ledger devs said they would release a tool/update to fix it.

Edit: try this https://reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/aiqtkf/updated_firmware_update_repair_tool_available_in/

Yes. That’s what the backup seed is for.

I am confused between the firmware version and the ledger live version
Can someone confirm me that the current ledger live version is 1.3.2?

It's because metamask is different from ledger live, and many users want to use the ledger live as all in one wallet software with nano s without any other third party app.

Sorry but either you have no clue, or you are completely missing the point.

The app on the Ledger has nothing to do with ledger live. This app had already the ability to handle ERC20 tokens transaction, Metamask integration is the proof, the compatibility with DDEX is another evidence of that.

To make it work with ledger live they just had to adapt the ledger live app, no need to make any modification to the app on the ledger.

Ledger Nano already supports ERC20 in 1.4.X in Metamask. Meaning on the app side on the ledger everything needed is already there...

An update from Ledger
Our engineers are working on a solution to optimize the size of the ETH app, while preserving token support. The solution will take several weeks to be deployed but will enable you to install more apps than is currently possible with firmware 1.5.5.
Oh well... as Lucius said, I'm not that big into Alts either... so it isn't a 'huge' deal... more of an annoyance than anything else. Hopefully the announced ETH update will improve things... hoping to at least get back to the number of apps I had previously.

The Nano S is a great device (as is my Trezor One)... and I just don't see enough benefits to justify spending the money being asked for the Nano X (or the Trezor T for that matter).

Yes, this is correct since the update covers for ETH app as grows in size as erc20 tokens will be available in the ledger live app soon.

Not sure how this justifies the increase.

Can't figure out why it increased that much.

I believe it is the ETH app that is causing the issues... without it, I can install BTC (and all the derivativee coins BCH, BTG, DOGE and LTC) and STELLAR and the "recovery check" app.

Like before Ledger servers are overloaded, and because of that users have big problems with updating. Ledger is aware of this and warn users to be patient, or even better to not rush with this update. Regarding problem with number of apps, they solve this with new Ledger X - Nano S is just limited for that matter.

Just updated. Installing the apps took a minute or so per app, but smooth experience overall nonetheless.

This is unfortunately a reality, they always have problems when new firmware is out, but many users also make problems to themselves by not reading how to update. I am not sure why users get MCU Firmware not genuine, is this have anything with server overloaded or it is related to something else?

Since this issue is mentionned by Ledger in their HOWTO, I guess it can also occur randomly. I guess they would know how/why but won't share obviously Wink

-snip-
I had no problems at all updating the firmware, but running in to the same problems, if not worse, installing apps. Currently taking up to a minute to install an app. I've put on BTC and ETH, and now only have enough space to install other BTC-based coins.

I'm not big in to alts, so it's not a big issue for me, but I can see how that would be really annoying for people who were. As you say, it seems like a big step backwards, almost as it they want people to buy their new Nano X, which says it will support 100 apps at once. This feels almost like planned obsolescence, similar to when Apple deliberately slow down their old models to force people to upgrade. I'm not impressed at all.

I am becoming more and more discouraged by the "quality" of Ledger and their software and updates. Things just seem to be going from bad to worse. Sad Undecided

I wonder why it takes too much time to uninstall an app. How about installing?
After I finally got the firmware update installed... it seems to be a bit better about 20-25 secs to uninstall an app... and around 20-25 seconds to install an app.

What hasn't got better is the number of apps that can be installed. Prior to the update (ie. on the 1.4.2 firmware) I had BTC, BCH, BTG, DOGE, LTC, ETH and STELLAR installed... as well as the "Recovery Check" app.

Now, if I install BTC (and 2-3 of the BTC derivative coins) and ETH... I can't install anything else at all Sad Undecided

That is a severe downgrade and worse than the original Ledger problems. I believe it is the ETH app that is causing the issues... without it, I can install BTC (and all the derivativee coins BCH, BTG, DOGE and LTC) and STELLAR and the "recovery check" app.

Seems like 1 step forward 3 steps back for each Ledger "update". Undecided

I'm getting  time out errors.

Ledger Live just sits on the "Allow Ledger Manger on your device" for several minutes after clicking the "yes" option on the device... and eventually the time-out error occurs. I assume that this is most likely because the Ledger servers are being hammered by everyone trying to update and failing (and all the "MCU Firmware not genuine" errors causing panic and people reinstalling etc).

I am becoming more and more discouraged by the "quality" of Ledger and their software and updates. Things just seem to be going from bad to worse. Sad Undecided

NOTE: after several retries, I finally managed to get "Manager" opened... it is taking nearly 2 minutes to uninstall each app Undecided

This might the cause of so many people now trying to update. I will wait for at least a month before I will update.

I wonder why it takes too much time to uninstall an app. How about installing?
