I agree with you guys that there are no need to upgrade urgently. Especially for people like me who don't plug my Ledger wallet very often.
I read comments on Twitter about update and quite many people are complaining that after firmware update they can install much less apps, for example one guy said that he had 5 apps previously and now there is enough storage only for 2 apps. While Ledger said that available storage will decrease only slightly. Maybe it's their attempt to force users to buy New Ledger X wallet which has bigger storage.
I updated my Ledger wallet today. Memory is really less. I used to have 5 coins available. Now if I load BTC and XRP into my wallet, nothing else fits. If I download BTC and do not download XRP, then I can install 3 more of my coins. The problem is the large size of the application for XRP as it seemed to me.
Otherwise, everything is working fine, without errors.

Nope, I will wait for a month or so first. Then we will see if there is no bug or anything. I would not want the electrum problem happen to me Cheesy

Damn, I won't upgrade my Ledger then. Well, not so surprising considering they need to sell as many products as possible to get profits. Business will always be business.

You don't need to update Ledger when you hardly use it, let alone store coins.

Makes no sense for me to update immediately, even if Ledger say : "The update to firmware version 1.5.5 includes a series of security improvements for the Ledger Nano S.", but there is nothing so critical in previous firmware which can endanger our coins.

I just read how to Update Ledger Nano S firmware since this is first time that we have Ledger Live, instead Chrome app. Anyone who wants to update firmware have to pay attention to three things :

  • Ledger Live version need to be 1.3
  • Firmware need to be 1.4.2
  • All coin apps should be uninstalled.

It is also important to check your seed - whether the backup is still where you put it, and is this seed correct. If something goes wrong, this is only way to recover coins.

I never rush to update may ledger. Actually I barely plug it on my computer, as I put money there I don't plan to use soon

One thing I really miss in those updates are the forks support. Btcp for example isn't working until now. There is a support using btcp Electrum, but it doesn't support segwit addresses.

The Ledger Nano S firmware 1.5.5 update is now available and contains new algorithms and security updates. We recommend Nano S users to update to it.

Read more here: https://www.ledger.fr/2019/01/16/ledger-releases-a-new-nano-s-firmware-update/

These 3rd party apps are not yet available on 1.5.5: Aion, Aeternity and Nimiq.

Let us know if someone did update their ledger, if all is good and nothing errors encountered as I see no reason to update the firmware asap.
