The voting system can be manipulated by a group of shills, and that would sabotage any good news coming from this platform. I support your idea, because I support competition and unbiased reporting on different matters. Once these power house media outlets starts to dominate the scene, we might see some censorship, which will not be beneficial for the community. ^hmmmm^

This is the sad truth of it all. Because it is in our very nature to be greedy for a lot of things, money and power being on top of the list, any voting system in place can be rigged and can be gamed for the interest of an individual or group. The challenge here is to set up a fool proof system that disallows this. With the current developments in crypto technology I believe we are getting close to finding a solution.

First thing you should be worrying are bashers. See that? It havent even started but look how many genius are popping up just to take you down. If you think you can handle them and you have the strong mind set then do it.

You wont get a lot of support. Many people will be doing some bad reviews just to see to it that you will break down.

Thosr things are the most important when it comes to giving news. Just one mistake and it will all be gone.

I hope you can really do this for it will add up to some searches when someone googled about bitcoin news.

God bless.

A good idea indeed. But you will need a great team that can monitor everything that is happening 24/7. That will be a real hard work.
Bitcointalk forum is almost like a news anyway so you want to take it to the higher level.
Let us just hope this will succeed, we need all the support that could make bitcoin community more established.
I will be waiting for this. Good luck.

So, in essence you want to re-publish content that can already be found elsewhere (on reddit; in this forum)?

You talk about research and editing by "experts". At the same time you criticize advertising used to finance the existing news sites. How are you going to pay your "experts" that are implementing your "paradigm shift" in journalism?

Personally, I don't share your view on the Bitcoin news scene. There are a lot of different news sources and a lot of content is already be evaluated by the reddit users (which you propose as something new). There are many dumb articles, but there are many good articles as well. As a reader, I'm free to decide and judge which articles I want to read and which contain useful information and which not. I don't need someone else deciding that for me. And I also don't care so much about the reputation of a writer, because even journalists that enjoy a good reputation by the majority can write articles that I consider dumb.

You talk about centralization in the free Bitcoin news scene, where I can see none. What I can see however is that your proposal could lead to more centralization, because you (or your "experts") will be acting as gatekeepers in regards to news releases to the mainstream media.

ya.ya.yo!

Quoting an email I sent earlier today

"I feel there is a need for an actual think tank around bitcoin due to

1. The high number of fake activity around some ICO's and the eventual scams that accompany them
2. The lack of media expertise when it comes to projects pertaining to the blockchain
3. The need for policy makers and regulators to interact with people with an actual record of work behind them>

In other words - the slack will be a lot more than a trading arena. I envision it to be a hub for the next layer of innovation in the blockchain to emerge from. It will be where enthusiasts leave cultural, linguistic and ideological differences aside to find avenues for strong collaboration."

We certainly need something to reduce these damn scams, and any service that would highlight these areas would be welcomed. The only site I know

of that are currently helping with this is, http://www.badbitcoin.org/thebadlist/ ... I get too many people saying... Bitcoin is a scam, and I am tired

of explaining the misinformation that are being spread to harm Bitcoin.

Creating a Bitcoin media group helps to make people who are unfamiliar to bitcoins understand about bitcoins thereby increasing the number of people using bitcoins. It helps bitcoin community become larger which would make major companies worldwide to accept bitcoin as payment method ensuring a great future for bitcoin

This is great idea, but i think vote system can be manipulated and content curated from the forum and researched / edited by experts within the community could be sided.
But, it's great to see ability to subscribe to certain kinds of news, especially if there's RSS feed or android apps to read the news as well Smiley

Currently curating a list of RSS feeds that are worthy enough to garner news from.
Feel free to mention your most preferred source of Btc related news.

I think a basic FAQ bot for Bitcoin related queries on facebook would go a long way Smiley
Powering it with AI and deploying it in a short time will be some serious crunching to do though.

Establishment of a bitcoin media group will not only help bitcoin but also other cryptocurrencies especially those who have icos. But bitcoin will benefit the most since your proposal may lead to an increase of additional traffic to bitcoin that will create more demands and possibly lead to bitcoin price inflation. Moreover this will have a positive impact on bitcoin and making it more stable and stronger.

Im thinking that too. But it needed a lot of money to do that. Bitcoin is need to introduce to all the people around the world. If this happens, i think many people will use it. Its our role to introduce bitcoin to them to see the benefits of it.

We have created 2 3 bitcoin group to introduce bitcoin with new members. Even I came to know about bitcoin in those group, we discus about the bitcoin's past present and future and we also share news and events related to bitcoin so I think we could introduce bitcoin with many new guys with bitcoin

well if people deem 7cents-14cents as an acceptable spam resistance amount for bitcoin transactions. then possibly making something like a pay to vote system may scare some shills away and also bring in a revenue stream for the writer and the website.

most mainstream media charge $3.50 a week, but like many things there are only ever 5-15 good articles worth reading a week. so charging maybe $1 to allow people 5-15 'thumbs up' votes could be both a good revenue maker while also keeping shills from making 1000 bogus accounts.

EG
free to read,
no ongoing subscription.
just pay upfront for say 10 vote 'credits' and use them whenever you like even if its just 1 article a month.. and then just buy more vote credits when you run out.

that way its not a barrier for entry. anyone can read and use the site and most of people wont pay. but those that do want to care about content and pay for good content can

anyway its just an idea

If your bot will be having the potential to let its users pay in bitcoins itself to subscribe to your media content, that would be great as it would spread the word out about bitcoins as this currency getting used on social media itself would be revolutionary, just imagine.

There goes Zapchain. I've never been a big fan of them, so we've still got to see what's the best way to go about it though.

Would you consider ZapChain as somewhere in the lines of your idea, OP? It is some kind of a platform where you can post news + others that are organized in different topics. It is a good way to get updates of what is going on in the bitcoin world straight from the people themselves. It is also a microtipping platform where your posts and updates can be paid in BTC.

Hello,

This is a Pre-ann in regards to a new project I will be launching soon.
I am working on setting things up behind the scenes while sharing my thoughts on a project I have been working on for a bit.

I believe it is need for a paradigm shift in how journalism within crypto-sphere works. A good number of units are run as for profit entities running advertisements for any project and thereby fuelling even the growth of scammers. As with any industry, it is important that a well researched and adapt unit is developed to distribute news regarding the eco-system. As it stands right now-  cointelegraph and coin-desk are the leading players in the industry. Add to this the countless tiny publications that have writers of little repute working with them. I believe the centralization of how news is dispersed within the ecosystem can be a bane for the industry and a platform is needed for the voice of the average individual to reach the masses. As it stands right now  a lot of brilliant, well researched publications can often be seen in the forum here. Announcements regarding new projects, potential scams, trading tips and countless amount of drama gets wrapped beneath forum posts here. In order for the mainstream media to see the depth of the ecosystem, I believe a new news agency should be established.

What  do I propose ?

-A news outlet
-Fuelled by chatbots delivering news on mediums such as facebook, telegram
-Content curated from the best within the forum and researched / edited by experts within the community
-A consuting unit for mainstream media outlets to get diverse views and opinions on what is going on withn the industry
-Relatively decentralized sourcing of news - with individual being able to vote upon what is considered to be news and what is pointless banter

Additional features
-Using webhooks, the bot can be further used for transactions
-Adding this to a platform like facebook permits incentivizing users as and when needed.
-Ability to subscribe to certain kinds of news (ICO's, altcoins, investments into start-ups etc)

I am open to opinions. I have not yet named the project. I am still on the look out for a number of collaborators for the project.
Do share what you think about this.
To be honest, while I think that the decentralized source of news is a good idea, I think that a lot of this is similar to things already offered by Reddit, however it would likely initially avoid the echo-chamber shown by Reddit's userbase, however it would like dissolve into something like that. There would have to be some things done to prevent specific writers or whoever becoming the only people represented on the site.

I would like to see something like this come to be, since it would hopefully be relatively devoid of bias, and I hope more info comes to be about this project.
