Smartchain technology would be the next generation of coins. Take a look at Ethereum and Bitshares, they both provide this. IBM is making a crypto (or so) with smartchain technology. Check out Adept and see for yourself  Roll Eyes

NEM is 100% new code and has some interesting features being built on it.  It was designed with the goal in mind to make a blockchain that just worked better.

Only actively developed coin will survive.

Do many coins actually "die" ? Or do they just "hibernate".
If the code and copy of the chain is still around then it can be turned back on.  So no "die".
Getting a network fired back up is a bitch.  So yes they can die if no one can mine/send them.

But I have found 1-2 well coded coins that literally can "hibernate" on go ZERO hash ZERO blocks but pickup nicely once someone starts mining it again.

You guys should bid to 020LondonCoin, it's getting full support because of its new devs, they're remaking everything for good.
n00b is perhaps onto something

Interesting how this theory didn't really pan out -- new coin creation rates seem to have plateau'd, and thank God... Really, only a handful of them are still used for anything other than speculation.

It did and it didn't.

But it looks like 200-300 networks have survived and will live on.

And now 1000s of 'colored coin' asset can be inserted into their block chains or mergemine on their hash coattails.

So CP & NXT (perhaps eth bts only because they've got the cash) will demo how2 do'colored coin'.

Doge, UNO and i0 will demo how merge-mine works. (why they've have matured distros which is the main hiccup of MM).

Once the path is clear and evident then you will see a wave/explosion of coins again ... this time no mining.

Key then is the asset management and development via DAO model, think micro financing, but more like startJoin.

so far I only see one coin that can be used as a currency to facilitate trade, all the others are just for storing wealth, or for novelty trading.   If its not instant and decentralized it is to slow for trade.

I can see the world using only crypto currencies as their main method of payment. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Bitshares would be the most used in the future (I think) Or maybe a new crypto would replace Bitcoin with better features and anonymity (perhaps?)  Roll Eyes

More coins = more moons and money to bob  Smiley

I guess corporate coins are not going to turn up on the exchanges, and the celebrity/event/whatever coins going to be more like collectibles, like Magic: The Gathering cards... maybe it's time to think about making a new pokemon exchange Smiley.

Only actively developed coin will survive.

It's mostly true. That's why I've been sticking with the old coins like LTC and DOGE. They seems to have a great community, not to mention development as well. Correct me if I'm wrong  Roll Eyes

Everyday an altcoin emerges however not all of them survive I think It's all about interest in the coin and what makes the altcoin standout from all the others. And yes there are way too many altcoins!

For some time, I would not have agreed with the OP, but yesterday I heard of two coming coins, a musician was making their own, and a well known actor was making one. Seems like these will not be currency at all, but merely virtual souvenir tokens.

please  you can provide a link to the news ,thanks

No currency has to be unique one way or the other.
