I sometimes wonder if Bitcoin is worth it just because it used to be. But I still believe that bitcoin is the most superior to the others.

There is a large number of Bitcoin users around the world. you accept it as a payment platform. and I think about cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is at the top of the list. a currency needs a lot of work and programming to assert itself. and bitcoin is the perfect example of it.

Bitcon is superior in a couple of ways, just to name a few:

Merchants cannot charge extra fees on anything without being noticed. They must talk with the consumer before adding any charges.

And due to the fact that personal information is kept hidden from prying eyes, Bitcoin protects against identity theft.

Hey folks! I just wonder, what is with Bitcoin that until now it is still in it's peak and still unbeatable. Has not any one ever invented a new/other currency that matches the value of bitcoin? And if there would be What should it take for a new currency for instance to match the value level of bitcoin? Has anyone here ever thought that a new currency more superior than bitcoin could come out one day and bitcoin value would decrease or fall?

Actually there are many coins who have more than the value of bitcoin. There are coins who have 3 btc in value or more but all of them are not solid and have started to crash. I remember yes coins, it has a huge value before but right now it fell to 1 satoshi. We have bitok coins who have 3 btc in value but right now its below 2k satoshi. Ethereum had set its value on 0.13 btc value but it fell down and has never increased back until now. Bitcoin cannot be beaten right now, it is very strong, as strong as a steel. There is no doubt that no coins can compete with bitcoin, I even remember zcash who have made a huge superhype and have sold their coin at 200 btc before it fell to 10 btc until it fell down. As such even very promising coins cannot compete with bitcoins. The coins to compete with bitcoin is not yet made.

Bitcoin started from zero where a lot of people underestimate it, it can become at peak because bitcoin is the first digital currency and it has been used by a lot of peole in this world, the reason why it stay at the top is because it has been through a lot of things but able to survive and many people believe in bitcoin and believe bitcoin can give them a better future

Which world do you live in? Cause multiple currencies have come and gone but none are like Bitcoins, they are simply the best. Look at one coin gone scam coin, then ethereum was said to undermine Bitcoins what happened, these are alts for a matter and that's why they never succeed, Bitcoin is superior all thanks to satoshi's vision and people have hopelessly tried to copy it but they have failed and that's what going to happen, my suggestion just stick to Bitcoins you will be safe for goodm

I've read somewhere this topic in the forum, repeating it is meaningless, suggesting the article should be moderated

The superiority of bitcoin can be tied to many things:
- Fast transaction times and low confirmation fee (until the blockchain got congested)
- Increasing Bitcoin value do to popular demand and supply
- Easy of access: Bitcoin is relatively simple to use to send and receive transactions.
- The growth of businesses accepting bitcoin is high.
- High Security!

We should see bitcoin's popularity increase rapidly over the next few years as a result of many people realising its advantages.

there are two different discussions here that are so close and may be confused with each other.

1. discussion about price
if you only want to talk about price then it is meaningless in my opinion. there have been many altcoins in the past that have exceeded bitcoin price. they have been worth more than 1BTC. for example IIRC, 1 ZEC was worth 6+BTC at some point.

there are many other things like price that people compare alone.
things such as daily volume, marketcap, ... and none of these "numbers" mean anything when you look at them alone.

2. discussion about superiority in general
this is the important matter that you should discuss and seek more information about.
all the single factors above come in handy here. you should look at them all at once. the price, the marketcap, the circulating supply, the real supply, the total supply, the amount premined, the amount in ICO, .... also you should look at things like how many people are using that coin and what for. is it just for speculation and inside exchanges or is it in real world also. how many merchants are accepting that coin, is it really used as they say.

and when you combine all these factors and look at the big picture you can see the "superiority of bitcoin"

BTC direct competitor are mainly LTC, Monero, Zcash and Dash. Zcash has the highest market value at this point of time. I personally think that LTC might have the potential to catch up the most now that the coin creator is back working on LTC again. The main problem with BTC is that BTC has grown too big and too fast which result in high transaction speed and fees. I do believe that BTC has to solve all these problems before there will be a mass adoption for using the currency. However that is not easy because for BTC to solve these problem, BTC has to go through some very tough soft or hard fork (decisions) which majority of BTC holders won't agree to (a big part of them are in for investment rather than doing good for the world). That would brings us back to BTC direct competitors eventually.

But there are no real competitor that Bitcoin has rather than Bitcoin itself. The problems that Bitcoin is facing is the real competition that it should win that is as long as it goes with the demand and maintain its standings with developments to suit people's need then I would say Bitcoin will continue to reign. This, I believe, is the lifeline of Bitcoin.

There are alternatives to bitcoin, and some of them are very big, like Ethereum or Litecoin. However, no such alternative has matched the value of bitcoin, in terms of market cap. Bitcoin shares much less of the total cryptocurrency cap now than it did a while ago, but I do not think it will be overtaken for some time, if ever.

I believe so that is if and surely it won't happen soon. If somehow in the future where Bitcoin has changed and what people made them love it would disappear or somehow offers more than what Bitcoin can offer then people would go what is the best. Still, Bitcoin will not be forgotten since it is where Cryptoworld sparks and blockchain technology been introduced.

I will add that the superiority of bitcoin goes beyond being a currency because other currency have been developed that even claimed to be of more superiority to bitcoin but still they are far behind and the reason is not far fetched but due to the massive adoption of bitcoin which is not stoping the feat bitcoin was able to cover and still growing is far beyond what others can meet up any time soon to the extent that anyone outside the crypto community does not know any other crypto than bitcoin.

Forget about ethereum, forget about litecoin, marketcap? People didn't intrigue by those factors, the main thing maybe how valuable and what benefits that people could get from those coins, refers to its price.
What I mean is, look at this coin http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/coeval/ > $1208 right now.
I didn't notice about it, but yesterday it appeared, out of nowhere, suddenly take the second position of the highest price of cryptocurrencies.
It seems that I'm missing something about this coin, FYI : it got 95% increased (pumped) yesterday.

Market cap is a much better indicator of a cryptocurrency's performance than price. Sure, maybe 1 "CoEval" is $1200, but how many are there? Less than 50,000! Bitcoins are $2750, but there are 350 times as many bitcoins as there are CoEval tokens. If you made a currency with only 10 units in the world, and the price got to $100k, the market cap is still only $1m, 46,000 times smaller than bitcoin's market. So just because you pay more for 1 unit doesn't mean it's a bigger. That's like saying bitcoin is bigger than the euro because 1 BTC costs more than 1 EUR.

Still on peak because it was continously supported by the community. Other coins are just meant for profit purposes even those who has a decent price today. Bitcoin is used now not just for investment but as a currency.

There are coins created to add features that bitcoin doesn't have. That was their advantage. But still there are bitcoin developers putting effort to make this coin more developed although there is an ongoing civil war currently on the making. I believe that if bitcoin will fail and eventually will lose it's value, majority of people in the world will not trust anymore the idea of using cryptocurrency. Just imagined from let's say $3,000 worth of 1 bitcoin it will goes down to less than $100 because most whales will transfer to another coin.

Thank you. So it is still the supporters that is making it great till this moment? So the loyalty and perseverance of the community in supporting bitcoin should never decline if we want to benefit from it continually.

bitcoin have all benefits than other coins, bitcoin was launched for the first time, people know bitcoin first than any other coins. bitcoin is like a bridge between real life and online life. bitcoin still don't have competitor until now and it still the strongest cryptocurrency ever. the other coins maybe have bright future like bitcoin but they really need much of time to beat bitcoin itself and they should make many innovations to compete with bitcoin.

maybe in future, there are any of coin that will replace bitcoin but in that time, bitcoin is still be the leader for cryptocurrency and more people will use bitcoin.

for a simple reason, are other coin supported and adopted by a whole country like japan? no they don't use ETH or litecoin for shipping, and until then no altcoin can even dream to beat bitcoin

they offer fancy solution and new tech like masternodes full anonymous, and other finesses but none matter when it come to succeed and not just be an investors tool

I take that by value, you mean the price, right?

By now, it is not that hard to create a new cryptocurrency that is just like Bitcoin. Its source code is available on the public so anyone knowledgeable on these technical stuffs can make a new one. Hell, there are many cryptocurrencies out there and yet they cannot surpass the "superiority" of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is strong, it has been proven years ago and up until now. Bitcoin also has the more number of users and has a large number of support from its community. So others (alts) may rise and go up against Bitcoin but I assure you that Bitcoin will not be moved.

A crypto more superior than the founder itself? The world of crypto is equal to bitcoin already. I highly doubt there will ever come day another crypto will even get at par with bitcoin. Come to think of it, there are already almost a thousand cryptos. Not one has reached halfway of what bitcoin has achieved.
