Hey folks! I just wonder, what is with Bitcoin that until now it is still in it's peak and still unbeatable. Has not any one ever invented a new/other currency that matches the value of bitcoin? And if there would be What should it take for a new currency for instance to match the value level of bitcoin? Has anyone here ever thought that a new currency more superior than bitcoin could come out one day and bitcoin value would decrease or fall?
I'm still very sure bitcoin will be the most widely used digital currency for a long time. At this time still no one can compete with bitcoin, maybe only the etherum has begun to look prospect. But between etherum and bitcoin still have a great distance. So bitcoin remains a digital currency used by many people.

There are alternatives to bitcoin, and some of them are very big, like Ethereum or Litecoin. However, no such alternative has matched the value of bitcoin, in terms of market cap. Bitcoin shares much less of the total cryptocurrency cap now than it did a while ago, but I do not think it will be overtaken for some time, if ever.

Forget about ethereum, forget about litecoin, marketcap? People didn't intrigue by those factors, the main thing maybe how valuable and what benefits that people could get from those coins, refers to its price.
What I mean is, look at this coin http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/coeval/ > $1208 right now.
I didn't notice about it, but yesterday it appeared, out of nowhere, suddenly take the second position of the highest price of cryptocurrencies.
It seems that I'm missing something about this coin, FYI : it got 95% increased (pumped) yesterday.

Most of the people who didn't intrigued by those factors has a high risk of losing money. you know when a pump happens particularly when a huge one occurs. people are saying

that this certain coin-- which pumped is the future of crypto and other exaggerated things but when it dumped, then they'd just said that its done for. many altcoins pumped and

reached prices like that or close to that but didn't actually stayed on the top 10 for too long unlike eth and ltc. you're just basing it on its price which is not a good move because

1. Low market cap 2. low volume 3. only have one exchange. If eth and other top alts didn't make any significant competition on bitcoin. i doubt that it will atm.

There are many altcoins created and supposedly surpass bitcoin as a crypto currency one of these examples are Ethereum that is created by bankers meant to replace bitcoin but the bitcoin enthusiast doesn't want to invest their money on something that is centralized and buggy. What they want is a free and decentralized currency that is not regulated by any government or banks and not designed for exploiting the people from the tyranny of this capitalist. You ask why bitcoin is still number because it is a free currency that is widely used a payment system and now been legalize by some countries.

Of course there are some factors that trigger the position of bitcoin remain in the top until now, although there are many cryptos that appear. First, the bitcoin as the first and the oldest cryptocc, of course the belief of people will be more given to the more experienced in this field, in terms of cryptocc, that's bitcoin. Secondly, if viewed from the market cap, eth can reach half of the market cap bitcoin. But for the price, eth is still far below the bitcoin, meaning the higher the price of crypto, the market cap will be more difficult to increase (my opinion). Third, the number of investors, so far bitcoin still holds the highest number of investors from other cryptoss.

Given the many criticisms of Bitcoin - and a lot of the new altcoins seem to be created just to fix them - I wonder sometimes if Bitcoin is so valuable only because it was first.

Most alt coins have been created to make a quick buck. Those alts that try to bring something new to the table, usually have problems of their own. Trying to fix something, does not necessarily mean succeeding at fixing something.

Because it is the first of all of the cryptocurrency it is the best of them all because it is the original coins and other coins are just a alternative of bitcoin i guess because it is the first it is the first to be process and be develop it self to become more applicable and more useful to be the best coin in the market also the market value was so high so no doubt it is the best coin in the market.

People have tried to come up with their own ways to chip away at Bitcoin and tried to make something that is bigger than Bitcoin; that's why we have the various altcoins (and shitcoins) that populate the cryptocurrency market. XRP, ETH, and the like are all coins or tokens that have been developed to try and be a better Bitcoin, and both of them have their own respective functions and features, but neither of them has really "beat" Bitcoin. And that's likely how it is going to remain for a fairly long amount of time.

Agree to this. Bitcoin is the giant of cryptocurrency. The first invented cryptocurrency. But, I think some coins might beat it. But it will took so many years to beat it. If there is one coin that could defeat it. It would probably be the second one which is etherium.

It is the first digital currency, most of the people bought it and then experience a big pump and then, most of them knew what happened and invest more on bitcoin because it might do the same thing and may also make them millionaires making the price of bitcoin sky rocket. Also, I can't see other crypto that will surpass bitcoin's value, but in terms of features, there is a lot more advanced and good cryptos.

When i just thinking about that coin it is almost impossible to create a coin that is more superior than bitcoin because it could go through a lot of process and development before it become a good coin in the market and also need a lot of pump in a lot of year so that a lot of investors invest.

Bitcoin is on top, due to the large community behind it and this forum is an example. Since bitcoin is the most expensive crypto currency and has the best market cap, therefore it is hard for other crypto currencies to overtake bitcoin.
There are other alternatives such as Ethereum but bitcoin is more popular than that. Bitcoin also introduced blockchain technology and was the first decentralized crypto currency.
Some of the reason why bitcoin has such a supporting community

Bitcoin is the leader of all the crypto and I think it is the pioneer in cryptocurrency. It has a huge followers already and more countries are moving to legalize the used of it.

Fack ETH, that shit worth nothing now that a new competition is in the market, waves is much better than ETH and has a much more bright future than ETH.
Buy before it's price goes to the moon, so cheap only $3 now and it was $1 a week ago.
Lets talk Bitcoin, imagine another coin surpassed it in everything then what? then the question would be: why isn't there any competition for this coin?
After that another coin, well Bitcoin right now people are just exploring it and it hasn't yet reached the full potential, think it's another coin, people investing and seeing what happens, that's exactly what we're doing now.

ETH is worth much more than it should be. It won't overtake Bitcoin, chances are it will crash into oblivion.
What you should think about is the volatility of RTH. When it crashes it crashes hard. People are holding it only because it's growing. They don't care what it can or can't do with their country's finances and economy.

I agree with you and I wouldn't touch it for anything other than short term speculation, and with a bargepole Tongue But it's still amazing how far it's managed to go against bitcoin. To me it says a lot about how vulnerable bitcoin is.

If somebody doesn't get its act together fast (I won't mention names...) and start focusing on bitcoin development rather than get distracted by other ventures then bitcoin will be overtaken

Still on peak because it was continously supported by the community. Other coins are just meant for profit purposes even those who has a decent price today. Bitcoin is used now not just for investment but as a currency.

There are coins created to add features that bitcoin doesn't have. That was their advantage. But still there are bitcoin developers putting effort to make this coin more developed although there is an ongoing civil war currently on the making. I believe that if bitcoin will fail and eventually will lose it's value, majority of people in the world will not trust anymore the idea of using cryptocurrency. Just imagined from let's say $3,000 worth of 1 bitcoin it will goes down to less than $100 because most whales will transfer to another coin.

Brother it's not about new technologies or innovations or transaction speed ot network strength or anything. It's all about the strength of the bitcoin community. And none of the altcoins will be able to beat up bitcoin.

ETH would have to approximately double to match bitcoin's price. Not much for a cryptocurrency, and it is a much younger currency. And that's despite bitcoin's first mover advantage.

My opinion of ETH is pretty low to say the least so it wouldn't take that much for a good currency to overtake I guess. It goes to show how much damage has been done to bitcoin those last few years.

You mean in status and demands, still bitcoin is ranking number 1 even though ETH and litecoins tried to surpass bitcoin?

It depends on how you look at it.  At this time, there are a tremendous number of alternative platforms that are specialized for specific applications. What sets bitcoin aside from them is that bitcoin has remained the gateway protocol for their entry.  In other words, bitcoin is the number one currency used to invest in the alternative platforms so bitcoin's value is intrinsically related to them.  The recent trend in the ICO markets, which target specific applications on the ethereum blockchain, may disrupt bitcoin's dominance in those areas....but they could also lead to complications for the ethereum network....One's thing is for sure, we are in some interesting times and we are lucky to be aware enough to be here witnessing them.
