I saw a user post this in another thread:
Excuse me coblee, but I was curious if the rules of this section have changed, because I was under the impression that auctions in this section have to be in BTC. I see some people get around this by taking bids in an alt currency and than accepting the equivalent in BTC when the auction ends.
I don't see anything to address this in the list of unofficial official rules in the OP. Does OP ever get updated or did the author just post it for merit/sig spam? I can see how this user quoted above might be confused if they read the list in OP and do not see anything included about this type of rule.
Looks like the confused user is also posting in Meta:
Since when can auctions in the collectibles not be done in btc? Because I can remember trying to host an auction there with bidding not being done in BTC and I was told by multiple people I couldn't do that. But now I look at auctions in the collectibles section and I see a ton that aren't in btc.
So can I get some clarification of when this rule changed?
If this was such a wide spread rule I wonder why he never included it in his OP. It seems the confused user and the author of the unofficial official rules list are the same person.. weird. Is he purposely not updating the list of unofficial rules and keeping it vague so he can get more posts for his signature campaign? Merit? Why is he posting in Meta and not this very thread that he started for this specific purpose. My mind is blown, some kind of special.
Jeez you have such a big problem with me just gotta follow me around right
I posted it in meta, because questions about the fourm rules belong in meta.
I am not a saint, I cannot remember every little rule there is on here, especially ones that don't come up so often.
Usually Altcoin related sales should be done in the Altcoin section's (like Marketplace). Regular sections are meant for just Bitcoin. However, this rule was never really strictly enforced from what I remember. I've removed people accepting only USD in Digital Goods, since well, this is Bitcointalk, not USDTalk. With collectible Altcoin items I feel like it's even more iffy, since you wouldn't want to break up the (already small) collectible section.
I always assumed that accepting an Altcoin is fine, as long as you are open for payment in Bitcoin as well.
I'm happy to accept BTC also. Just figured it was easier to price in LTC and accept LTC. If there is such a rule about only accept BTC, that's fine. Just let me know.
Please edit your OP to include this piece of information. BTC must be one of the accepted methods of payment, otherwise the topic belongs in the relevant altcoin board.
To others: feel free to report topics in this section if OP doesn't accept BTC.
coblee recently posted he also accepts BTC and I told him to include that info in the OP, next time feel free to report similar topics.

Yes, that has always been the case (since altcoins were first used on bitcointalk).
